I watched Dan react to IGN's list of the ten best roguelites and just seeing a little FTL footage got me feeling the itch to dive back in to one of the genre's all-time classics. Check it out!
What a perfect story ending. I can envision the crew of your ship collectively yelling "this is for Malf!" as they continued to fight through on their burning, severely damaged ship eventually getting to shoot their final weapons before getting taken out themselves. It was beautiful. This entire run had a more compelling storyline than some movies
And fortunately for them, they got to see the flagship splintering to pieces in their last moments. They got to know their efforts were not in vain, rather than being left guessing.

I played it to death forever ago, and NL's got me so pogged I just downloaded a massive mod pack and started playing again.
It's all fun an game until you get the new "ur guy died lol" event for the 3rd time that sector...
I mean at 50:00 he had 3 levels of shield available against a ship with a volley of 3 projectiles and choose not to power his 3rd level of shields because of the ion storm... What you should do in that fight is just resign yourself to it taking a long ass time, power up all 3 shields and oxygen, use dual lasers to take out the Zoltan Shields then let the Artillery take care of the rest. Zero risk, no hull damage, no scrap wasted on repairs.

@@tyger3170 Nope, they have normal repair speed. Only Mantis have lower repair speed, while Engi have higher repair speed. The only racial features Rock have is 50 extra health, immunity to fire, and slower walk speed.

@@sikic996 I figure he's always confusing them with crystals, they need oxygen but lose half as much health as non lanius to asphyxiation.

2:47 I've played a lot of FTL and I don't think I've ever seen two laser shots collide before. I didn't think that could even happen.
Edit: And NL is definitely why I started playing FTL again recently.
I've definitely seen it before. I've had missiles collide with lasers before, and I've been lucky enough to shoot missiles down with my burst lasers too.

Its pretty cool when it happens and saves damage because of it. Another cool thing that you can do is shoot drones down with your weapons, if you wait to fire them until the drone's in front.
Ive seen it back when the game was new. Pretty much anything can collide.
@@KoopaKrump I had a run, there was a half power nebula, and my single ion cannon got blocked by their combat drone, then he unpowered his drone bay, so it just literally shut my only gun down and the combat drone I had couldn't kill him

49:14 The best play here is to turn off engines entirely and make use of the 3 shields. The enemy has the capacity only to throw out 3 shots so you could have been completely safe.

First they killed MALF, then they killed the cloaking dream... Bastards.
This game was so over my head when it first came out. I played it, failed like 30 runs in a row because I didn't understand the power management aspect and how good things like cloaking and hacking are. Thank you for waking me up 7 years later, Egg and Spearmintz.

Captain hindsight here. At around ~50 when you were in the neula with 50% power, the enemy ship could only attack with a volley of 3 projectiles, and you had just upgraded to 3 layers of shields. You could have simply powered all 3 layers of shields and been untouchable.

It's not just a meme, flak moved to be in front of the ship is indeed the strat since flak's shot do travel slowly and need to firstly Travel trew your own ship screen before arriving to the enemy ship's one, it will be faster and not just for the first shot but for charging the next ones, it will make you gain around 2 sec per shot, it's just the compound interest of ftl

You mentioned a lot in one of your previous videos about whether or not to chase on phase 2 or phase 3
Basically, you sit on the base for phases 1 and 2, and after defeating phase 2 you chase
This is because you get bordered like crazy in phase 3.
When they all board your ship, you let your engines charge and jump back to the base, thereby letting you kill the flagship crew in peace (called the kidnapping method)
You chase after phase 2 because that gurantees you a safe retreat point (the base) for when you kidnap the crew of phase 3
Also, the crew is the one thing that doesn't regenerate between flagship phases. If you kill their man in the missile room in phase 1, that room will be empty for phases 2 and 3.
Love the FTL content, keep it up! It's a groovy game.
oh man this is some god tier Intel it never even occurred to me to beat the 3rd phase like that, i always just wait on base because the enemy batteries scare the F out of me but that's such a smart way to handle the boarding.

I had the closest run in FTL history. I limped through to the flagship. Only half hull left. Managed to JUST about get through to the final phase. I had good weaponry, so stood a chance. Gave it everything in the final phase. And with my final laser burst I blew up the flagship. Unfortunately, a stray missile snuck past my defences and blew my ship up killing everyone on board. I still won. But I got the "in loving memory of" my crew screen. May their sacrifice never be forgotten amen.

Ryab, the FTL content is so POG, you got me back into this game. Please don't stop, this is some of the best content you've put out. I love your stuff, but man, FTL just hits different.
Seeing NL aim Flak at a 2-square room on the side of the ship unaware of the fact that the spread means that like 40% of the flak will miss hurts every single time.

Breeding Drone? wait, that means... MY MAN!
Doubt that you will see this but i really recommend mind control and crew teleporter
You can teleport mindcontrolled units so you vacuum your teleport room and teleport them to your ship right before the mindcontrol runs out
That way they will suffocate and you can empty out an enemy ship, however DO NOT kill all the crew during the bossfight

You're either not gonna read this or you've already been told, but:
You chase 3rd phase(and not 2nd) after a bunch of their crew teleports to your ship and you jump back to base with them and kill them. It makes the rest of the 3rd phase very easy.
If you chased 2nd then you may not be able to jump to a safe waypoint with intruders during phase 3.
holy shit what an ending. the martyrs on the ship Mario Golf saved the galaxy. their statues will be built on every planet to honor their sacrifice.
Probably the biggest tip I could give you is that you should care about fixing breaches less. I've seen you go to repair them mid combat a few times, despite them being in empty rooms. Doors hold in oxygen perfectly, so as long as you have no need to be in the room, the breach shouldn't be a priority (and can even sometimes be left intentionally in order to depressurise rooms that you can't easily vent via external doors)

What an intense run. I just wish the Flak and beam was timed better. He's getting better on the Flak. But he seemed to wait for the enemy ship to have shields back up before firing the beam weapon instead of firing it right away. Really fun run to watch though!
Watching at 1.5 speed, it feels kind of like the ship has an AI, and it's narrating. Amazing.

*Referring to astronaut diapers* If you throw up on the earth it stays in a nice if not gross pile. When you throw up in 0 gravity, that stuff flies in every direction and wont stop bouncing off walls easily. Better safe than sorry with body fluids in space imo

FTL makes for a wilder ride because the RNG can take you anywhere. Into the breach for me has been the gold standard for game design since it came out. Random events do occur, but if you engage deeply with the games mechanics you'll soon find that the outcome you achieve is determined solely by your play, every single time. If you feel you were ever screwed by the RNG you need to reexamine actions, because you're wrong and should be ashamed your words and your deeds. I think that's also why it's less compelling as a spectator game, though people watch chess streams so Idk

First time I beat the boss I use hull breach and its good. Well it's actually terrible but on the flag ship two hull breach kills the person and destroys any weapon. After that you hit the med bay and kill everyone, then you get a prompt that says the ship is auto pilot. Cloak or high doge or maybe drone defense on the crazy attack. The only reason this is a good strategy is because I get hull breaches all the time and I just keep it instead of selling it. Also good job nl

Please try a run with boarding at some point while you're on this FTL kick, I think it would be fun to watch. The original FTL series you did was one of the first pieces of content I watched when I was new to your channel. Went through the whole thing while I was sick in bed all day.
