Savitri Cinema crowd from circa 1996 - long queues for cinema tickets in Delhi

- Now a multiplex, you can see the Savitri Cinema in yesteryear. Savitri cinema is located in Greater Kailash of South Delhi and instead of long queues for watching a movie now there is a long queue of traffic every day. Ticket checker manhandles the crowd as people try to enter without a ticket. You can see a white Cielo, fiat cars, blue Maruti 800 along with the usual serving of the yellow and black auto-rickshaws.
A viewer tells us: "This is Savitri Cinema in South Delhi. It was known for running English films in the morning shows, Don (1978) was a big hit here and completed a silver jubilee. Films like Rangeela and Satya also did well here. It always got tough competition from Sapna and Paras, two giant theaters nearby. Eventually all 3 cinema halls shut down one by one."
Rowdy crowds, poor queue management and a Daewoo Cielo car outside Savitri Cinema in GK2.

The great 1990s. The last decade in India when people still used Indian branded clothes and shoes, planned going out for watching a movie and bought tickets at Ticket Office, wore wrist watches and would actually look at it to know the time, carried a comb in their back pocket and Hair Gel was something used by celebrities and super rich. People would discuss about the film with their gang of friends for days to come while today people just read a review about it or comment about it on youtube. In 90s people would watch a movie and be inspired by the beautiful songs, dresses wore by their favoutite stars and see pictures of places in India and abroad where they can only dream of going. Today people watch movies to learn lust, greed and cheating and try imitating in real life thinking that it is normal.
Cassetes, VCDs, Walkmans, Film Camera all have been replaced by a single mobile phone.
So much times have changed in 20 years.

1990:: Less recourse but life was joy full
2020:: Full with recourse but life is monotonous
Actually being a frequent visitor to theatres in graduation years to watch 1st day 1st show of fav stars or any specific movie of other stars, it was a winning feeling every time on getting the ticket. To reach at least 1 hour earlier with hope I will be the 1st person and line will start behind me but so many time it happened few already waiting in line specially with Multi starter movies or Movies with great hype. In summers or humid seasons waiting in lines was very demanding and to put hand in window grill with w/o lines others also pushing their hands causes skin peel off mostly by metal Kada’s but when ticket comes in our hand, Sikandar feeling used to come.
1st day 1st feeling can be felt only by those who knows this real thrill. Yes, with such nonsense line breaking, pushing, roughness by few rowdy types I used to think wish we can book the advance tickets from home for every movie ????? Today time is so cool for peaceful movie enjoy with hardly any whistles or clapping in movie time. Tough these were having own charm but it literally used to made dialogue hearing disturbing. Still what time that was when every one eyes and necks were totally free from disturbing mobiles.
The time when being video recorded gives immense pleasure like walking in a red carpet.
