So fun fact about Sugar Free is that EXID's LE is on the track. The Sugar Free part at the very start and towards the end are both her. The song was written by Shinsadong Tiger, and EXID likely helped make the guide track and LE's part was kept in. This song came out between Up and Down being released and it going viral. Being a Leggo, obviously made me partial to this song, but T-Ara has a bunch of great songs. T-Ara is a group that really embraced EDM. Their latest song Tiki Taki will feel different since it came out in 2021.
I think both these songs were a lot of fun, I like some edm in moderation. It seems like LE is everywhere, she is always working with other groups, I think it's awesome. I'm pretty sure we listened to tiki taka, I don't think we did a reaction tho. If I remember right, the song didn't really connect with me, but I want to give it another chance when I get off work tonight
@@BestFriendsReact Tiki Taka wasn't my favorite song, but I did enjoy it and it is interesting to see how they changed after several years away. They also didn't have a company backing them. This is why it was posted on Dingo instead of their old company's RUclips channel.
I hope they do more and find a place that they feel is good for them, even if they stay independent, I hope they find their rhythm again and we see more from them
T-ARA 💕 They were low-key the most popular girl group of their era, up there with Girls' Generation and 2ne1, out of all the girl groups they have the most best selling singles of all time with 4, Roly Poly is the best selling single of any girl group on the official charts (2000s songs like Gee by GIRLS' Generation allegedly sold better but they predate the charts being used today so shoulder shrugs) and Roly Poly was the best selling song of 2011 which is funny because it never went to number 1 just peaked at number 2. Their debut work is very Britney Spears 2000s vibeish, then they dove into retro/disco and then became more of a EDM type girl group towards the end with still doing some retro songs. They also have like many versions of their MVs 👀 like too many at times, like sometimes there's a drama version (some are 30 mins long, girls gave us movies), a dance once, and then a random standard one that has completely different footage from the other 2 versions, I mean yeah 👀 so reacting to them can be confusing for certain songs. I highly recommend Roly Poly since it is their biggest hit and their most recent comeback Tiki Taka from 2021!! The problem with T-ARA is that despite having a huge discography (like seriously over 30+ singles 👀 compared to other GGs that debuted in 2009 wow they out did them all) and becoming very popular in China I feel like they will forever be known as the "bully" group, basically they debuted as 6 then company added in a random member before they hit their 1 year mark as a group and became 7 so from 2009-2012/January this 7th member didn't get along with the other 6 which makes sense she was added in randomly plus she wanted to be an actress not an idol (and eventually they added a random 8th girl in 2012 but she only lasted a year in the group) but in 2012 a big bully scandal came out and the 7th member said the others bullied her and this and that, people dug up clips and etc it became a huge thing, however years later proof came out from former employees and such that showed the 7th member was faking it and was the real bully, it's a huge thing and I'm just glossing over it really 👀 but basically she was a problem but that 2012 moment definitely hurt their career in the long run which sucks. The 7th member also barely got lines most of the time too, she really only shined on the last song she did with the group which was Day By Day, although her rap on Roly Poly was campy and fun 👀 Sadly 2 members left in 2017 because they were just sick of the company or whatever and did a comeback as four then took a very long hiatus and comeback in 2021, they do own the group's name rights so they can still be T-ARA despite not being in the company anymore. Jiyeon just got married a few weeks ago in a positive light 😭 so happy for her! It's sad that ot6 aren't together anymore, I was hoping for an ot6 photo at her wedding but I guess over the years they fell out? Who knows. I do hope they come back eventually, their last comeback was very good but it was single with 1 b-side not a full mini album 😔 sorry for typing a lot 💀
That's a pretty crazy history of the group. But that's life, it's not always perfect. And adding or removing members seems to be an ongoing thing or issue depending on how you look at it. I also think that it's sad when a group doesn't stay close but again, I think if you have a group of people some will be closer than others, and I would rather them not hang out in their personal lives than fake a friendship for the sake of the camera or fans. We'll for sure check out more from them, I think it was fun getting to know them a lil more
Let's not forget the 7th member was the one who had that infamous wardrobe malfunction and her nipple was exposed during a live tv music show broadcast. A similar thing happened to Hara from KARA during a live broadcast on a Japanese show where her strapless dress got pushed down from her dancing and jumping that it fully exposed her bra. Sadly that was her first public appearance after her first attempt to take her own life. I think that embarrassing memory also stayed with her and played a part in Hara deciding to end it all on her second attempt, besides her ex bf physically and sexually assaulting her and of course her dear friend Sulli's su1c1de a few months earlier.
Yes, Hwa-young was a major (You know what). Her twin sister, Hyo-young was in another group in the same company called Five Dolls (or 5-Dolls or F-ve Dolls -- they changed their name a few times) and was involved in the T-ara bullying scandal, as well. They both went on to become actresses. From what I've seen in the dramas I have watched where either of them played parts, Hyo-young is a much better actress than Hwa-young. Side note -- I actually have a Five Dolls album autographed by Hyo-young (you received a random member autograph).
@@ripvanwinkle9648 the OG 5Dolls had good music, with Your Words/Lip Stains etc, I wasn't a fan when they rebranded and switched members, music wasn't as good in my opinion
T-ara is my quintessential group. They were the ones who made me stay in k-pop. They are not afraid to experiment and in the case of their MV Cry cry and Lovey-dovey they are well developed stories. Surely you like to see them, they are good videos very well carried out.
I love T-ara, I've only recently started to listen to their music and now I'm addicted! lol My favorites are probably Number 9, Day By Day, Sexy Love and both versions of Time to Love. great reaction
2nd gen groups are the best. So many classic songs, cross company collabs and group interactions, variety shows, genuine friendships and support. Each group had their own concept and stuck with them, for the most part if not for every comeback and very few groups copied another group's concept. Live singing with simple, fun and easy to learn songs and choreography, the 'fun wars' between fandoms, different fandoms supporting other fandoms groups no matter how big or small they were or which company they came from.
10:39 they are literally the group with the most diverse concepts in the entirety of kpop for sure, they are dubbed 'chameleon of kpop' in their fanchants
They’ve been known as the chameleon of kpop because they had a lot of different concepts, even their b-sides are super good too. T-ara and Dreamcatcher are my top 2 favorite ggs of all time ❤
"Wasn't there an EDM remix of this?" -- Umm . . . actually . . . they released an entire album that contains nothing but remixes of "Sugar Free" from multiple DJs/Remixers. I know because I actually bought it. It came in a metal case with separate photo cards instead of a photo book like most K-pop albums tend to.
T-ara could have & should have been one of the biggest K-pop gg’s of all time, certainly of the 2nd generation at the very least. They went on an almost unprecedented run of 24 music show wins in a span of 25 months in 2010-12….then they were rocked by one of the worst false bullying scandals in K-pop. Long story short one of the members accused a few of the others of bullying her but it eventually came out that she was actually bullying a different member. While the truth eventually did come out it took several years & the cost to them was huge. They did have 1 more music show wins 5+ years later in 2017 for What’s My Name & the remaining 4 members were so overcome they couldn’t even talk, let alone sing the encore. I can only imagine how they must have felt/feel because I’m still salty about it… Anyway, great reaction! Some other tt’s to check out…Rory Poly, Cry Cry, Day by Day, Sexy Love, Lovey-Dovey & so many others
Little apple by T-ara was a cover of a chinese song and they actually had the original artists on the song.. its one of my faves... also my fave t-ara tune after number nine (sorry :p) is a cover of a 70s song.. its dance but not so much edm more disco if anything its called ''do you know me'' ypou should listen to the original as well by a 70s group called sand pebbles.. its amazing.... also btw i just subsribed to you for listening to t-ara so do as i say :P jokes
Yes. They are known to be EDM queens. But to us fans, their best songs are all Ballad songs. Their ballad songs are amazing like Hurt, Falling U, Last Calendar, Why we separated, etc. you should listen to all of these songs, you would like them, and these songs are all b-side but their quality reached to the top
Oh i liked tara 😅 Watching 2nd gen again really blows my mind i was a solid vip but i loved so many groups so many styles it was an interesting time searching for subs and all that stuff I just enjoy remembering too
There's a fan theory that says that "number 9" refers to the nine members that the group were supposed to achieve. Their company didn't know how to deal with the huge success the girls had at their peak, there were 6 members originally, then the company started this concept saying that the group would only be truly complete with 9 members and they would be adding new members, even though the 6 of them already had achieved a lot of recognition and success. Well, it didn't work out. At some point they had 8 members (Day By Day era), and the last member was already presented to the public, but because of innumerous rumors made out by one of the new members the group suffered deeply and the public turn their backs to them (much later all these rumours proved to be false). Number 9 was the first song they released after the two new members got out of the group and they became 6 again, so it holds a special bittersweet place in their story, the girls said in some interviews that they saw this comeback as "a re-debut". Sugar Free followed it. The two songs performed well but not even close to the huge success of their former songs. Luckily their fanbase was loyal, so they still released a lot of songs. And recently even came back for a special comeback after all the rumours were cleared. You're in for a ride with T-ARA, amazing discography. If you wanna see a different side of them I recommend: a) Roly-Poly (their biggest hit), watch the MV with eng subs, it's on a unofficial channel but the MV has a plotline that really benefits from understanding all they're saying. b) Day By Day, again with storyline, but this time the official MV has eng subs. Thanks for the reaction, you guys always bring joy to my day!
I appreciate the backstory on the group, it helps out a lot, it sucks they had a rough time at points, but that helps build character to some degree, and will make the members that are close, even closer
