Just had my semi annual blood work done my Type 2 Diabetes. Had it done at Riverside Hospital here in Bacolod. Everything looked great. They provided me with a link to download the report and I also sent it to my US Doctor who said it looked good. Cost about $44 US. Urinalysis next week.
Interesting Rod, considering i have had skin cancer problems for many years which actually started some time after i demobbed from the Army having served in Malaysia for two years, frequently many of us not wearing a shirt and only wearing shorts all day in the Garrison during ongoing training. Veterans Affairs very kindly takes care of the treatment bill. I usually pay it and VA refunds to my NZ account when i had surgery at Cebu. It cost P60,000 for removal of three lesions located near my right elbow. The surgeons rooms were near to Cebu Doctors Hospital. A nice guy but he charged like a wounded bull, LoL.
So I take it you used Foreign Medical Program (FMP)? I am a veteran also and am interested in what hospital to get my treatment at the may be covered by the VA?
@@sylvestergottie91 Hello Sylvester, i am a New Zealand Army Infantry Veteran. I guess FMP is an American scheme for Vets? When i required treatment, i went private, so as to reduce waiting time. My surgeons surname is Dr Zubiri Cebu City, (i think), it was quite awhile ago, not sure if he is still practising. My appointments were for day surgery, in and out in less than an hour. God bless brother. Bob. NZ.
I had a biopsy on an very small "indent" in my head that has been there over a year since I hit it on a cabinet door I think. Will know more in a week or so and will have 2 "things" lasered off next Friday for 500 pesos each, just because I do not like them.
Nice medical info chat, driving past a hospital in CM, Tland decided to check it out..had a once-a-year checkup for over 50s..after a few minutes of filling in paperwork got started and finished in 4hours including consultation with a Dr, about $140 or so then did the same in US, results were the same..replacing a temp molar cap $8…love it do 🙏🏻👍🏻🇹🇭🇵🇭
I just had a full body check up in the States before coming to SE Asia by a dermatologist for the first time. They found 2 things growing on my skin that they froze off. Pretty simple and painless. Paid for by the VA. One thing I did buy since in SE Asia is a hat for my balding head. You will definitely need one here for sure! Lol
High Precision Lab in Cebu is very affordable. You can avIl for a VIP service membership for a very reasonable price. You can have blood work, ultra sound, MRI, X-ray and Urinalysis. Also EKG and echo and stress test are available.
Good video Rod. I have had good medical experiences in the Philippines but I have seen some people have less than stellar experiences. Like the girl I bought medicine for after her diagnosis of leprosy. The doctor had prescribed the third best rated medicine according to the WHO which medication by itself only had a 60% chance of curing leprosy. I bought her the top rated medicine and a secondary antibiotic to go with it. Beyond that, be careful if they say they want to "manage" your illness. If they aren't trying to cure you, they are letting you die. I can't imagine having an illness that needs a manager, either it has a superstar quality or it doesn't belong on stage and screen! Take care Rod.
Hello Rod, I am in a similar situation in Thailand and I see my dermatologist twice a year. Usulally she check all over my body and she use nitrogen to burn pre cancer stuff and other skin tag if they annoy me. I feel safer having a professionnal checking me.
I had not been checked for 8 years so not real smart on my part thaimaxcan. Had a biopsy today and will know in a week or so. She didn't think it was anything though. They do not use nitrogen here. I will have 2 "things" lasered off next Friday for 500 pesos each. Not bad.
I take that same Allergy med that you do. I noticed that when I eat less processed food that I don't need it. Here in New York, it costs 3,300 peso's ($60 US). for 360 pills. $80 for the lab test is well worth the preventative worries. Two things I am planning on doing is getting any dental work done before I retire. This includes the things like "You will need a crown on that in a few years." I told them do it now (before my dental insurance from my employer goes away). The second is go to Thailand and get a full health checkup so I have a base line of what I look like when I feel healthy. My US doctors won't do that.
Someone mentioned to freeze the bottle and it would keep much longer so I will do that. My experience is the medical "checkups" here are not quite as thorough as in the states, but that is just my experience.
Maybe a skin tag , I had one and used tea tree oil , picked it off and it stayed off . Or they say to keep it covered with iodine , certain blend and it will fall off .
Mine were not skin tags Peter. A couple years ago my gf bought some Korean drops that included garlic oil and other oils. Over the course of 2 weeks I think she "burned" these off. Quite painful as it gradually ate through and left a wound but it worked. The laser treatment took about 20 minutes and 3 days later no pain but it will take a week to heal.
Weather is not "normal" and a bit unpredictable. We had a drought in 2015 and 2019 during the "rainy" season. Rain in many regions of the Philippines usually only lasts 20-50 minutes. It can mess up a vacation if you like the sun, beach, hiking, etc if you are in muddy areas. If you scuba or snorkel, the sea can get a bit "murky" and less clear after a storm. Generally, life goes on during the rainy season and it only means that it rains on average a few more days a week. May is usually the hottest month. We have had an unusually wet last 4 months with it often raining once or twice a day, but now we are seeing more sunny days.
@@AmazingPhilippines1 Thanks Rod, looks like i will have to wait until late this year to visit. I intend to come to check out places to retire to including Cebu, Dumaguete, Davao and Clark. Have to say thank you for your videos, they provide a ton of great information and I watch daily. Gary

I also had my father hospitalized of course he was very sick and I think it was a Chinese name hospital! Thanks for some info about medical topics. Hello this is my concern also. I’m considering Phil Health as I am married to Pina. We will live 8 months out a year there. Don’t want pay for medical here in the states
Good video Rod. My office visits in the Philippines have been pretty painless. I'm probably a few years younger than you but I remember burning to a crisp. Using a whole can of Solarcain. Also as a mechanic for years, washing my hands in dry solvent/Safety clean fluid, gas or diesel. The skin on my hands looks older than the rest of me. Not much safety protocols back then, barely noticed asbestos brake dust. It's probably a skin tag on top of your head but a little caution doesn't hurt. I accidentally jammed a thumbnail into a pink mole on my forearm which mole promptly turned brown and hard but I was in my 20's then and wound up scraping it clean away reaching into a door and trying to fix a window regulator on a Peterbilt and I haven't heard from it since.
@Robert Kubrick That was lucky Robert, the pink mole could have gone the other way resulting in something much more serious. My eldest son mid 50s, living and working at Melbourne discovered a melanoma on one of his big toes. At first i guess he didn't realise the seriousness of it and didn't get it checked out. Over the following couple of years it worsened and spread through his body and by the time he sought help it was too late. John passed on October 23 2021. Regards, Bob NZ.
Had a biopsy on the "thing" on my head Robert. More of an indentation and she rightly asked if it started with an injury which I think it did over a year ago. Will know more next Friday i think.
Great content Rod. Been watching the heck out of your videos and enjoy what you are sharing. Many of the American vloggers in the Philippines have been saying that your Filipina wife needs to live in the USA for 5 years and some of them are saying 10 years to be eligible for survivor benefits from your Social Security. This would be a great subject to cover in one of your videos. Do you have some connections, like JRC Visa Consultancy or a US Embassy official that could explain the requirements?
In my opiniion, preventitive checks are important. For ease of mind, I would recommend an annual Executive Check-up at a private hospital. You stay overnight and undergo all kinds of analyses, not just blood testing and urinalyisis. At P12,000 (CUMC at CDO) it's a bunch of money, but I consider this reasonable, considering all that is included. For those US retirees who have maintained their Medicare program, some plans will pay for treatment and surgery internationally, as long as you are admitted through the Emergency Department. In my case, I have had a hip replacement operation and another time treatment for GBS, a neurological disorder, which landed me in intensive care for a week. The total bills were high but In both cases, my plan covered my costs.
Thanks for sharing that information Clifford. I should do one of those checkups soon as I am curious about a couple of things. Most people are deficient in vitamin D, Magnesium, and other nutrients. Some of the normal tests do not really tell give you the best info though. For instance the magnesium test often only gives blood levels. I had been taking magnesium pills which have a low absorption rate and now make magnesium water which absorbs much better. Will do a video about that soon.
