    Great list man. It’s generational. Our parents grew up with Superman, Batman, and Cap, making them the big blue chips of “yesterday”. When we were kids we grew up with Spidey & Wolvie…solidifying them as blue chips today. Kids 20 years ago grew up with Venom & Deadpool…making them the big blue chips of tomorrow. Miles (& maybe Gwen??) will be the big blue chips 20 years down the line. My 2 cents of course.

    Here is the problem with buying 400 copies of ASM 300. You can't get them all at the same base price. The fact you keep buying additional copies drives up the price of each new copy as you keep acquiring. This is the same issue you face if you try to paper trade small cap stocks. There are only so many available at the posted price. As you start buying the price keeps moving higher. Whether we're talking about small cap stocks or comic books.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  3 года назад +1

      I get what you're saying. But in 2013, the price was so low, and supply was plentiful. Even if acquiring multiple copies quickly started to drive up the price, it wouldn'f have drove it anywhere close to where it's at today.
      At the end of the day, that example was merely that: an example, to prove that books even from the 80s can bring in larger ROIs than your silver Age keys.

      @@notimeforthis7377 He said top lol. The comic book market has never been in a bubble and has never popped. Not even in the 90s. But that's a whole other convo lol. Ebb and flow is needed and natural in a healthy market. If there wasn't ebb and flow, I'd be worried. This rhetoric of "crash" and "bubble" that circulates through the comic community - in my humble opinion - comes from folks not having a thorough understanding of markets and finance. I encourage people to really pay attention to the verbiage that they throw out there and actually dive into real market and financial analysis.

    This is obviously well thought out and i appreciate and Agree with 90% of your chip forecast. However disagree lil bit with XMen 266. Just not really feeling staying power and impact of Gambits first app. I think its interesting that after all this time, Spawn#1 and other early Spawns seem to be sought after and coming into their own. The #266 is the most likely purchase for the year as I only need #201 and #266 for a near 160 issue consequetive run, so #266 is due in my mind or at least in my justifyable mind. There is probably tons of newsstand copies in the UK due to Menzies Distribution to Newagents, before Comic Stores were more mainstream, certainly in the 80's lots of newsstands and I would imagine that most of my old collection was probably newsstands(as a guess) yikes again :P Greetings from Scotland :)

      We shall agree to disagree here! Though I agree with you that a lot of it's value's ebb and flow has been associated with where the show has gone, in 5 to 10 years, the show will be a classic that will be over, and long term gains will begin to increase. The book is hot first and foremost because of what the series means to comics. Once the show is done, it will be history, and that will push the value of this book up long term.

    • @edwinprice8880
      @edwinprice8880 3 года назад

      @@JernosComicsPopCulture You are correct! Print runs for X-men 266 and Spidey's 252 and 300 are actually in the 400k range. My skepticism comes from the fact that people started hoarding comics around 1966, and the mid 80s to early 90s were really hot years. Everything McFarlane and/or black costume was cherished by Gen X collectors. I think so because I was actively selling comics from around 1988-2018. I sold out my last store 3 years ago, and it's still operating. Golden and early SA comics are so scarce because many were sent to the military during WWII, Korean War and Viet Nam. Many GA comics were purposely destroyed during the whole Comics Code fiasco as bad influences. And during the 50s polio epidemic people were afraid the virus could be transferred via paper products leading to many mags and comics being burned.. In the early to mid 60s, comics were read and dead. That's why very high grade SA keys are quite rare.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  3 года назад

      @@edwinprice8880 I agree with everything you just said, but none of it relates to these books or these books being identified as blue chip keys. I said in the video that modern books will almost indefinitely never be worth what blue chip silver age books are worth, and throw in the top tier bronze age blue chip keys like Hulk 181. But defining a book a "blue chip key" doesn't mean it's going to be worth 10s of thousands of dollars. A blue chip investment is simple an investment that has low risk long term, and consistently holds value for the long term, as set by precedent of how it does on the market. Precedent only comes with time, and in the larger scheme of things, most of these books are still young on the market.
      Unless people literally stop caring about comics or super heroes all at once on a national and global scale, these books are going to hold value and gain long term. Even with higher print runs, more people are holding on to these books in their PCs, which keep availability (supply) on the market UNDER demand.
      Hope this ads some context.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  3 года назад

      The 24 percent is basically compounded. You're not just multiply 24 x 5. the annual average ROR also takes into account dips, where the 5 year ROI doesn't.

    • @danfoley2442
      @danfoley2442 3 года назад

      @@JernosComicsPopCulture Right, I understand your definitions of ROR and ROI. And as you say, the ROI can most simply be calculated using only the starting price and the ending price for the full 5 year period. But you should get the exact same answer if you instead link together (compound) the five individual one-year returns. So all I'm saying is that the stated average ROR of 24 is inconsistent with the stated 5 year ROI of 1563. The average ROR would need to be considerably larger, at least 75 percent or so, in order for the 5 RORs to produce a linked (compounded) 5 year return as high as 1563. But, no worries. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture

      Let me give you an example:
      FMV of Book X for a 5 year period: 100 - 200 - 150 - 300 - 600 - 950. Each year's ROR's would be: 100%, -33%, 100%, 100%, 58%.... This would be a 5 year AVERAGE ROR of 65%. But the 5 year ROI would be a whopping 850%. Because the individual paid $100 for the book five years ago, and sold it for $950 today.

    Isn’t Disney losing the rights to Spider-Man soon? If so, no Miles in the MCU

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  3 года назад +2

      No. Disney does not currently own the rights to Spider-Man. Sony does. Marvel Studios and Sony just signed a multi-year contract last year though that renewed Marvel's ability to use Spider-Man and other Sony owned Marvel characters. The shared relationship of the Spider properties between Sony and Marvel is getting stronger and isn't going to end. Sony knows that they don't want to sell, but they also know that it is in their best interest to have this shared relationship w/ Kevin Feige.
      Miles is absolutely going to show up in the MCU. His Uncle Aaron was already introduced.

    Why is Batman 423 recently so popular? It's not as if it's McFarlane's sole Batman art or cover - e.g. he did the Year Two covers AND art in a few Detective Comics issues. Curious.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  3 года назад

      It's not even his FIRST Batman work! lol. It's just really an iconic cover. A lot of Todd's success lately stems from the longevity of Spawn as well, and collectors realize how much of a legend he truly is.

      When Miles is introduced in the MCU, that UF4 9.8 will hit 7- 8k. When we get an Into the Spider-Verse 2 trailer later this year or early next year, the book will start trending back upward. Of course, this is just my humble, educated opinion.

    Great group of books I have a couple of them like the ASM 300 in A Cgc 9.2 and love it what I might want to consider adding to your list would be static one from DC and something is killing the children won both I believe will be blue chip books.2

  • @bottomtiercollector
    @bottomtiercollector 3 года назад

    I think TMNT should be taken off, because it's already a Blue Chip Key. I think most of the value rides on the 1st prints rarity, and could have been appropriately on your list with a much bigger print run. I do think Sandman #1 and the Saga of Swamp Thing #37 can be DC Blue Chip keys of the future.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture

      It truly is, hence why I said in the video that it absolutely IS already a blue chip key. I really included it to show that books from the 80s can absolutely be blue chips.

    Great lost but I have to say, ASM 252 and Xmen 266 are a little out of its league with most of the other books on your list.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  3 года назад +1

      266 was 10 on the list, so it was at the bottom and has a lot of work to do. I disagree with you on 252 though. This book is a homage cover of the greatest Silver Age book ever created, and defined the next generation 20 years later. The black suit is going to be a timeless arch, and we are seeing that. When Tom Holland finally wears a symbiote suit in the MCU (which I believe is 100% inevitable), watch this book double in price over night.

      @@JernosComicsPopCulture ASM 252 is definitely a Killer Cover and will always have its place in collecting while holding a significant value. I just feel that it will always be held back by the controversy on the first appearance and first continuity of the Black Costume. Plus there is actually not a new character introduced similar to many of the other books you chose. Not trying to break your chops over it, but I think as far as the Black Costume and Symbiote sequence is concerned Secret Wars 8 might be the one that the real has the ability to become a true Blue Chip. The cover and storyline significance makes it a must have most people's collection. But Hey, that's just me 🤔

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  3 года назад

      @@comicjourney The controversy will do nothing to devalue 252. On the contrary, all it does it inflate (increase) the value of MTU 141 and SW 8. I could have easily put SW 8 on this list, for sure. I agree. But even with the "controversy," all three books continued to increase in value, and 252 increased at a higher rate than SW 8. A MUCH higher rate, and I don't ever see that changing.
      Also, to the controversy, it shouldn't be controversy, because the evidence exists that puts 252 first. I have all three, I love all three, and I think all three will continue to increase over time.

      @@JernosComicsPopCulture I usually agree with you on most of the stuff you highlight, but on this one I really think Secret Wars 8 will be the future Blue Chipper. lolllll. No, my explanation of ROR is not horribly wrong. And no, the picture of Uncanny 266 is NOT a reprint. It's called a "stock image" where the barcode is blackened out. But obviously you decided to act like an ass instead of actually paying attention.
      Annual ROR is the amount earned on an investment over a 12-month period, and is usually expressed as a percentage. That percentage can be positive or negative, depending on the amount gained or lost compared to the principal-the initial investment or beginning amount during the analyzed holding period. The time period could take place over a calendar year or begin at the time of investment and end after a full year has passed.
      Hope you took notes.
