  • We just figured out that you can adjust the trim tab/turn fin assemblies on the Pro Boat Stealthwake! So in this video, we give you some tips on how and why to adjust your trim tabs. We also show you some video clips of how the adjustments impact the way the boat reacts when running with the different setups.
    The Stealthwake manual does not show you how to adjust the trim tabs, but in the "Troubleshooting" section, they do mention the turn fins. So you can reference that as well to learn more about how the turn fins impact handling as well.

    Usual you don't move the trim tabs up and down. Trim tabs are used to extend the underwater ship. So they need to be at the same height as the hull. Using trim tabs for trimming the boat is done by angle the tabs. Angle them down to force the bow in the water, and angle them up to lift the bow from the water. If you trim right the only surface touching the water are the trim tabs and a little of the hull and the prop offcourse

    Thank you for this video. The Stealthwake is i chose for my first deep v style boat so that i could learn and grow on rc boats. Your time and editorial on the the trim tabs made a lot of sense. Thanks again!

      I know it's been a while since your post, but how's it going with your Stealthwake? Have you seen all of our upgrade videos? This is a great boat and it was fun upgrading it. Although it's just as fun stock, if you don't cook too many motors!

      @@HandfulOfHobbies the motor burned out after my aluminum rudder install, looks great on the shelf for now. The scale performance crawlers took over the work bench lol
      I'll do a motor combo swap this year and get it back on the water.

    Trim tabs are supposed to stay fixed and angle up and down the same as an airplane flap would go, not go into the water or out of the water. tilted down pushes bow down tilted up pushes bow up. Bow up is for choppy water, and tabs down is to get IRL boats onto plane than you go flat. I guess you don't really notice these things on RC boats

      Thanks for the feedback! Now that we've installed adjustable trim tabs, it's a lot easier making adjustments for different water conditions. Plus, we can control the ride attitude a lot better. We're not limited to just moving them up or down or having to bend them by hand.

    Thank you very much.. this is what im looking for.. thats why my boat do wheelies and keep flying off the water

      If it's doing "wheelies" try moving the battery forward towards the bow. You may have too much weight in the back. That may help in addition to trim tabs.

      Most of the parts we bought were from Offshore Electrics. Hobbyking has decent motors and ESCs for boats too.

    Random question, do you think wider trim tabs offer any advantages?

    • @HandfulOfHobbies
      @HandfulOfHobbies  3 года назад

      Longer trim tabs, so they stick out the back further might. Wider tabs probably won't. From what I have heardwith race boats, if there's room, they run 2 sets or one long/wide trim tab split in the middle. The "inside" tab helps control the boat when it's running straight and the "outside" tab helps control it in turns.

    Not in all boats it works like this, in boats with greater power the tabs are even with the hull and with the adjuster they graduate to lower the bow of the boat

    • @HandfulOfHobbies
      @HandfulOfHobbies  3 года назад +1

      Mostly correct. Typically you start with the trim tabs about 2mm above the bottom of the hull and then change the angle with the adjusters to angle them up or down to find tune the ride. And if they are angled down (negative angle), the stern lifts and the bow goes down. Aftermarket adjustable trim tabs are a big improvement over these stock tabs that you have to bend my hand or just move up and down.
