    How humble and respectful words from another chess giant: Veselin Topalov

  • @ArranVid
    @ArranVid 19 дней назад +2

    Nice words from Topalov, well said Topalov. His words almost got me teared up in sadness. What a momentous day...the old, great king Kasparov having a final send off match against one of the newcomers, Topalov, and unfortunately losing...but Topalov gave Kasparov all the respect he deserved. Well played to the both of them.

    I become emotional whenever retirement comes to mind. I offer my heartfelt apologies to those who, after years of diligent work and saving for retirement, faced unexpected events that led to significant losses. This situation is especially harsh for retirees

      Magnus still has Garry as the GOAT. More longevity is needed in his opinion. I agree. Recency bias is real though, so most will have Magnus as the GOAT now. If Magnus played in the past and Garry was playing now it's almost a definite that the same people calling Magnus the GOAT now would instead be calling Garry the GOAT. I'm actually fine with either of them being called the GOAT, since they both are so unbelievable, and I think there's a reasonable chance Magnus will overtake him anyway. It's interesting how recency bias works, and that whoever is currently playing will be the player that's considered best by most people. If it's close between them it will be that way at least. People just don't pay as much attention to past players. They are much more aware of what's happening currently. Magnus is the strongest player ever though, but the current world number always has huge advantages over past players, and is always objectively stronger, but that doesn't mean much when comparing them.

    Topalov was pretty much right. Magnus didn't become champion for another eight years after making the statement that 'no new chess giant like Kasparov would appear in the near future', nor has Magnus dominated for as long as he. We'll have to wait and see it he's truly the best (Kaspy still the goat imo)

    • @ArranVid
      @ArranVid 19 дней назад +1

      Eh, I think Topalov never knew that someone as dominant as Magnus would come around. I think Topalov thought that Garry's type of lengthy dominance would be something rather unique...but Magnus has come and his level of dominance reign is similar to Kasparov's. Anyway, they were nice words from Topalov. For me, the goat is Paul Morphy but we can all debate about it, lol. Garry and Magnus are great players, elite level, there's no doubt about that...Garry and Magnus are legends.

    • @DC-zi6se
      @DC-zi6se 4 часа назад

      @@ArranVid Topalov already saw Karpov's reign 1974-85. Magnus is just the 2.0 version of that. Positional, squeezing chess champions are always predictable. Explosive tactical ones like Morphy, Tal and Kasparov aren't.

    Don’t get it why retire so early it’s not a sport like boxing where your body can not do things after your 40‘s. You can literally play chess in your 50‘s, 60‘s,70‘s….

      brain slows down very mildly as we age, but at the elite grandmaster level, that mild decline is a big deal specially against young talents... playing blitz..

    • @its_sora
      @its_sora 2 месяца назад +1

      You start declining as you get older. You could still play the game of course, but you will be a lot worse at it. Chess can be quite taxing and expensive if you do not win tournaments due to travel costs, accommodation costs and the exhausting nature of the game itself.

    • @sevenstarofheaven
      @sevenstarofheaven 2 месяца назад +1

      Chess is so much different than what it was in the past. Back then you can still defend your wc titles into the 70s because you gain advantage against younger gen in a way of social connection to get the best second/trainer and keep update with opening theories which nowadays, the latter even homeless can afford it.

      Kasparov retired at the peak of his career. There are several reasons for this.
      Firstable, loss of motivation. By that time, he had already won everything possible in chess. His last wish was to win a tournament in front of his son, and he did it.
      Secondary, there are many important and interesting things in the world besides chess. He went into politics.
      Garry tried to improve life in his country and continues to do so to this day. Few people know, but he was the first to call Putin's regime a regime. This was back in 2004. In 2002-2004, he already clearly understood that Putin was leading Russia to totalitarianism. Unfortunately, few people supported him, and today we have what we have: a stupid, senseless, bloody war in the center of Europe...

    • @santimda1990

      It is extremely consuming for players to play tournaments with games that can extend over 5 hours, during consecutive days. You really need to be able to endure that type of effort, which is both mental and physical.
