Do not resist it, I PROMISE you it won't EVER hurt you. It can't. It sounds like backwards logic but demand more anxiety, genuinely. This is exactly me. Not scared to crash, nor scared of turbulence. It’s the being trapped in a small space, no way out, being up high and feeling like I’m going to react crazily like a lunatic and demand that they land the place. Which then heightens the panic attack.
I think that’s the best advice out there ... i did breathing / meditation etc but nothing works.. instead of running away from it you have to embrace it and the fear will melt away .. thank you .. I ll watch this before I get on a plane .
Well. i just took a return flight from my holiday and I used this simple technique and it worked again. I despair at all these You Tube videos that tell you flying is safe and you have more chance of dying from a car accident - they miss the point completely in my experience. My fear is of panic attacks in an enclosed place. Actually walking towards the anxiety and wallowing it neutralised it for me. Wow.....ive been having awful flights for many years and based on my last 2 flights there was no anxiety after a few minutes during take off. Many thanks
Out of everything I’ve watched, this has been the most helpful. Staring the fear in the face and calling it out on its primitive bs. Just wanted to say a huge thank you ❤️ I have a flight next week and I feel fine!
I am flying for the first time next week and I am afraid of heights and closed in spaces. Plus we have to wear masks. My flight is 9 hours. I am turning 60 in few months. I am a little late getting started with flying. When I was a young woman I did not have those fears. They came on over time. I have lost my mind and control in elevators that malfunctioned. It isn't a pretty sight and I hate feeling that way. I know flying is going to be beautiful and I will use your ideas. I think being excited will be a good way to turn that frown upside down! Thanks!
@@jackysieras473 Our plane developed flap problems on the runway. They took us back and we had to get onto another plane. I was feeling like maybe it was a bad omen but, it went better than expected. I was a bit scared at first, but after some time, I began to enjoy actually looking down. I did get a sudden feeling of doom just after take off, but I guess that is normal. I was amazed at the speed at which a plane goes down the runway and then just lifts off. It was quite an experience for me. So, as it turns out, I enjoy flying. Also, on our way home, something happened with the plane during layover and we ended up in Denver for 6 hours before we got another plane. I actually flew back to AZ again this past summer. No incidents this time! Enjoyed the trip and the plane ride. Thanks for asking!
I know this video is a bit old by now, but I still wanted to contribute with my story and experience today. So when I was a teenager, I all of the sudden developed crazy anxiety when flying. This later became a more generalized anxiety regarding driving, my everyday health and even death. I actually became very sick and inhibited. But it got a lot better, especially the past 2 years. I am now a doctor on a psyciatric ward and I deal with other people’s anxiety everyday for a living. Unfortunately, I still had quite bad anxiety about flying, it sort of never left my system. A week ago I found this video, just in time before our ski trip with our 6 month old son. I was soooo nervous, I have read, meditated and watched a ton of videos (btw, a lot of them miss the point bc they cater to your logic and rational parts of the brain by explaining how a plane works and how safe it is).. But anyway.. This!!!! It worked. I had a beautiful flight with my son and husband, just a short one, but it was a huge win for me. The world seems open now. Nothing can stop me. Thank you!
this is similar to the DARE technique.. You disarm anxiety by asking for more (ie not trying to avoid it). Seems counterintuitive but it works. It's worked for my driving anxiety. Still not flying though because it's a little harder to practice flying than it is driving :(
Amazing!!!!! Thank you so much. I saw this video about 1 month before my flight but I thought I wait until after my flight before commenting, and I can honestly say I’m cured!!!! I was encouraged when I first saw video as these techniques were new to me and I’ve had a fear for about 18 years. Other techniques are all for trying to be calm and distracting yourself, immersing yourself in the flying experience seems so obvious now! With anxiety FM I was able to laugh at my fear which also worked unbelievably well. But it’s not an easy fix, it does take hard work, I focused on using them everyday for a month. Thankyou!
I’ve been scared of flying for years. I’ve watched many RUclips vids and tried all sorts of techniques. Nothing worked. I tried this technique and was amazed to have a fear free flight. On boarding I felt terrible. 10 mins later I was fine. When the anxiety returned every hour or so I just reused the technique. Amazing.
This just might work!! It’s as nonsensical as FOF is. Thank you 🙏🏼. I will fly tomorrow and put it in to practice Update: OMG this really helped! I had the best flight experience in decades 🤔 wow
I have watched so many videos on this because I'm 35 and have never flown and am about to next week. Your video helped me more than any of them. Recognizing feelings is key when you feel something and I love the comedy bit. Thank you!
Absolutely, I laughed when I got a stupid thought in my head like you were talking about and pretended it was comedy. I knew once I actually got on the plane, I would be fine and it was a great experience. Thanks again for this video
I have a flight coming up and it's been nothing but anxiety thinking about it. My doctor even prescribed me something but I don't want to count on it. This is the first thing that is giving me hope. Instead of trying to fight it the whole time, we are reframing it. That is actually very calming to me. Thank you so much!!
@@jbicondoa Thank you. I took them this morning and they made me feel weird which caused me to feel more anxious but that was probably because I took them on an empty stomach. Im flying early on Thursday and I'm kinda nervous but I guess I will be fine. Thank you.
I HATE TURBULENCE one time, there was these giant clouds and we went bouncing. My brother liked it, but I was about to cry. My brother always wants a big cloud. I, obviously, don’t.
Hope the works in going to Hawaii next week, and I hate planes first plane I went on was when I went to Fiji, I was on the plane for 3 hours but this time its 10 hours overnight. So if the works. THANK YOU! (Edit) THIS WORKED!
I have severe panic attacks and can't physically breathe. When they landed ambulance came onto plane and took me off. I was so embarrassed 😳. They told me to take medication 💊 next time I got back on. So now I take valium.
I am flying to New Zealand tomorrow from the UK, that's a 14 hour flight then a 10 hour flight and I'm doing it on my own. This is so far out of my comfort zone I can't begin to tell you! I didn't even used to leave my home town on a train alone. This video is one of the most helpful I've found. Will add how I get on using these techniques after my flights.
Absolutely bloody amazing! It worked. Before I’ve had an awful time on a small one hour flight. This time a total of 24 hours flying EACH way. No fear...at all. I loved it. I’m astonished I did this alone too, even with an 8 hour stopover and fairy bad turbulence at times. As soon as the pandemic allows I’ll plan my next trip. Thank you so so much, it’s genuinely life changing X
AWESOME! Thank you so much. Diving into the sensation is amazing. I got so nervous even thinking about it, but I can get excited about the same feelings. But bringing it on is awesome to gain control. Feel it l, I love it.
i am going to fly tomorrow for 5 hours and have to come back in few days after. I will use your techniques!! Changing fear to excitement and that already seems like helping me :D thank you
Thank you for this. This was very helpful. Maybe you can record yourself speaking to and overcoming your anxiety in a longer format. Just audio of the anxiety FM telling you things, and your conscious self overcoming it. You have a great voice for this and I believe it would be very helpful.
This also works for those who are struggling with panic attacks and anxiety. Dr. Claire Weekes talks about this method in her books. I've stopped my panic attacks using this approach.
wow thank you SO much olivia! i love this step by step format, i followed it with you and it totally helped me with some anxiety (i mean, EXCITEMENT!) that i’ve been feeling about an upcoming long road trip. i have also never flown because of my fear but i do believe this will help me overcome that :-) thank you a million times! 💕
Btw. for those who are scared there is actually tips how you can help yourself, like sitting near the emergency exit, if your falling spread your legs and arms so your falling like a leaf etc.
Thank you Liv for these advices. I'll try them in my next flight... I love your videos, they really help me. Kind regards, you are a good example to me
I’m not scared of being up in the air or flying but I’m absolutely terrified of takeoff!!!! Is anyone else like this? I’ve never been on a plane before and I’m such a scaredy cat when it comes to roller coasters. So the the thought of going about 160 mph and then climbing up in the air for about 10 minutes while having that sinking feeling in your stomach scares me! I really want to know how to get over this because I don’t want to make a scene if I were to ever go on a plane, because that really is the only part that scares me.
Yes! I am the same way I am only scared for take off but when I’m in the sky I’m totally fine it’s just that weird sinking feeling in your stomach at take off
i don’t get how most people say the worst part is take off. it’s the middle when we are leaving 30,000 feet, to land.. I also hate air pockets, feels like the whole plane is free falling.
My fear is of being trapped. As soon as the door shuts I get anxious. I’ve been taking lorazepam and it’s been working but last week after years of being ok I was placed a a smaller aircraft by the airline than anticipated. As soon as I began to sit I got anxious and asked to leave the plane. They let me off and rescheduled me on another flight. I made it from my home in hawaii to LA and back but I want to beat this this forever.
@@TheQueenOfGreatness It wasn't bad. What helped me was the following... Wearing headphones and playing good music (Wicked Game by: Geminix, is what I played when the plane first started taking off. It made that part of the plane ride actually seem fun.) I'd also tell myself that I wasn't nervous, I was excited. The thing that helped me the most though was pretending that I was just in a weird vehicle driving up mountains. I never really let it register in my head that I was actually that high in the air. In my mind I was just high up a mountain. -Michael
@@TheSouthCarolinians I fly ALL the time. I'm glad you enjoyed. I'm actually from Florence SC and flew into Florence for the first time Sunday LOL I always tell myself, we're not up that high and I keep sipping water. I ALWAYS get the window seat to help relax me. The only thing I can't get used to is the takeoff🤦🏾♀️ The worst take off I had so far was from Charlotte NC 😥 But I enjoy flying moreover than driving or car rides. Glad you had an enjoyable experience and welcome to the ski high travels 😁✌🏾
@@TheQueenOfGreatness I didn't really mind the takeoff part, it reminded me of being on a roller coaster, being up high was my biggest issue. And, I actually tried to get the middle seat to avoid the window. haha :P
I just learned how to ignore my fear of flight. Yeah I am terrified at first but when I began to see all the passengers they seem to not be bothered by the flight so I just act like what they are doing and pretend that I am busy with my phone.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This has completely worked for me and I have just enjoyed a flight as much as I first did as a child! For me it was changing the perception of that fight or "flight" response. Resisting or distracting yourself from the fear/anxiety can actually make that perceived anxiety much worse, especially if the turbulence escalates or you're flying on an unfamiliar sounding aircraft. Simply identify what you "thought" was rational or logical anxiety and re-label it as excitement, and then really lean into it! This also actually helped with pre-flight concerns many hours before boarding. I now welcome the take off and turbulence. I love landing with a smile and dry palms now :) If you need a little more logical / physical help... try considering air as a liquid that reacts to its surroundings (a bit like the ocean or a river) - that was a top tip that came directly from a commercial pilot which has also helped.
This is a great video! I have also used EFT (tapping) techniques which also worked for me. Running away from difficult feelings just makes them more powerful. Thank you, Liv x
my mom was extremely scared of flying but now she is very confident and calm and now i got her fear of flying which sucks. I scream and cry and hold her tightly on the plane. We are flying back from hawaii tomorrow afternoon and land back home in los angeles at 11 at night. i didn’t really sleep last night
I thought she'd say something like take off your shoes and smell them and that would have been weird. How are these weird tricks? They're just normal ideas and everyone at some point or another has tried them. I will tell you a trick that really works: sit on the isle and keep your eyes fixed on the crew when you feel there's a danger but you find them not even noticing it even though they are bouncing moderately with turbulence that shou soothe you just follow there lead. Trust me it helps
True.been flyin many times but it feels like killing me each time.if i could only take a walk for 1 wk than to fly.i will do it due to fear.My last fly i just observe the crew and they dont even bother about turbulence.
@@shiellahoy919 i lost many opportunities because of my fear. Then came a point i became homeless which was for the better. It gave me a push to get my act together. I started watching a lot of bad weather take off and landing videos and saw that the pilots take them as piece of cake. I watched horrific turbulence videos and saw that it's just a routine for the pilots and it's part of the journey. This gave me the courage to travel wearing a diaper though because on a 1 hour flight i have to pee like 5 times so diaper keeps me relaxed even though i never had to use it. Xanax also helps me with make believe. But last flight i had with a dear friend i actually felt bored which means I was perfectly ok. But all these flights were only 1 hour flights now I will be taking a 3 hour flight in hope i will be ok. I strongly recommend going with a companion it definitely makes a difference. And make sure you are not embarrassed by your state. You didn't rob anyone
Aw gosh we are almost the same.ive been u until morning on youtube watching everything abt planes.Especially bad news in order for me to face the reality.i only experience 1 hr flight each time i go to mainland. And it was like crazy coz ive been counting seconds to 1hr cox i really wanna touch the land already.I guess im only one who uses the lavatory like more than 5x too.I asked for FA more hot water to drink.i was really crazy inside the plane i wanted to cry.i cant talk to anyone.Last flight was 2 wks ago.I went to play games on myphone for 1 hr and it helps but the fear is always there.Goodluck to me for my 19 hrs in total fly next wk.I wish i could inject some sleeping solution to myself lol
FEAR - False Evidence Appearing Real I recommend also to look at Pilot Mentour and Captain Joe channel. They are pilots who will explain to you in detail why you really schould scare from flying. Anyway Airbus is one of the most sofisticate modern aircraft so if something go wrong they have plan B, C and so on. The thing is we don't have control over the situation. Also look up Carlos interview how he land the plane without 2 engine's in severe turbulence and storm. It will give an idea that even in the worst case scenario things could end up differently. Anyway tnx for the video and great technique btw. Now seat back relax and fasten your seat belts :)
I know this is from a year ago but the red eyes always the best! I hate being on a crowded plane makes my anxiety worse. Flying at night is peaceful and it's easy to fall asleep. In fact the best flight I ever had was a red eye out of Anchorage to Seattle. There were only about five of us on the plane. it was peaceful and quiet and the full moon was shining on the Wasatch Mountain range. It was spectacularly beautiful--a site I never would have seen from that perspective had I not been on that plane. It was the least anxious plane trip I've ever had. if you have a long flight in your afraid of flying I highly suggest a red eye. Usually far less crowded, it's quiet and peaceful, and you can take a sleeping pill and sleep through it.
Thank you, Liv for all your tips! And it´s true when I fly by plane feels so uncomfortable when the plane departed or have a turbulence, or to land a plane. And certainly, I will apply all those tips. It's interesting that the technique you use is facing the sensation of fear to transform into a sensation of pleasure, from anxiety to excitement! Maybe the symptoms are the same but not the interpretation of them, wow this is revolutionary, and that interpretation of symptom like a fast heartbeat became in excitement sensation and later with the time that symptom disappears because there's no more interpretation of fear. It's funny & beautiful your way of thinking like imagine is a comedy show your inner voice, I never heard that before, but I love it!! Well, Liv I´ll apply all those tips the next time I´ll fly, I promise. Thank you so much for that! And I hope one day I may fly to Costa Rica to meet you Liv in person, would be a dream come true for me!
Let's see, seatbelt fastened, focused on excitement, amygdala (reptile!) under control! I should be good for this flight. Honey, just check one more time to make sure my parachute straps are tight.....

I don’t have a fear of flying I just get weird problems with my head and eyes and I hate the feeling when the engine slows it’s power and the acceleration slows down along with the change in angle of the plane, it feels like my sense of orientation just disappears

Many thanks
"The only way out is through..." Powerful!!!÷
Out of everything I’ve watched, this has been the most helpful. Staring the fear in the face and calling it out on its primitive bs. Just wanted to say a huge thank you ❤️ I have a flight next week and I feel fine!
Aww, thank you!! You are so welcome!
The only way out is through, I love it!
Thanks!
How did it go?
Thank you!
"You didn't write your will yet" 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Liv...I'll try this next month when I go back home.
this is similar to the DARE technique..
Amazing.
Thank you for sharing!
This just might work!! It’s as nonsensical as FOF is. Thank you 🙏🏼. I will fly tomorrow and put it in to practice
Update: OMG this really helped! I had the best flight experience in decades 🤔 wow
I have watched so many videos on this because I'm 35 and have never flown and am about to next week. Your video helped me more than any of them. Recognizing feelings is key when you feel something and I love the comedy bit. Thank you!
How was your trip julie, does it worked for you?!
Absolutely, I laughed when I got a stupid thought in my head like you were talking about and pretended it was comedy. I knew once I actually got on the plane, I would be fine and it was a great experience. Thanks again for this video
Did you survive ?
I have a flight coming up and it's been nothing but anxiety thinking about it. My doctor even prescribed me something but I don't want to count on it. This is the first thing that is giving me hope. Instead of trying to fight it the whole time, we are reframing it. That is actually very calming to me. Thank you so much!!
How was it?
@@Hvmmy7 actually worked. I still had some anxiety but it was manageable. Accepting, instead of fighting was very helpful.
@@jbicondoa Thank you. I took them this morning and they made me feel weird which caused me to feel more anxious but that was probably because I took them on an empty stomach. Im flying early on Thursday and I'm kinda nervous but I guess I will be fine. Thank you.
@@Hvmmy7 that can happen when your brain is fighting the meds.. Maybe try a different kind.. Nice to have backup.
@@jbicondoa Im not sure which ones to try, I wont have time to find new ones ugh
I HATE TURBULENCE one time, there was these giant clouds and we went bouncing. My brother liked it, but I was about to cry. My brother always wants a big cloud. I, obviously, don’t.
Love it thanks! I do not like flying at all but keep doing it. This fear will not dominate me. Time to enjoy life and see the world. F** it!
This helped so much! I just got back from Japan, and your visualization techniques were super helpful... thank you!
Thank you, that really does help. You are the voice of reason. I hope I could get up the tenacity to go after that fear.
Go before that fear.
@@LivKissper Thank you
Hope the works in going to Hawaii next week, and I hate planes first plane I went on was when I went to Fiji, I was on the plane for 3 hours but this time its 10 hours overnight. So if the works. THANK YOU!
(Edit) THIS WORKED!
So how did your flight go
Good for you man😊
I have severe panic attacks and can't physically breathe. When they landed ambulance came onto plane and took me off. I was so embarrassed 😳. They told me to take medication 💊 next time I got back on. So now I take valium.
I’ve been having anxiety over a trip at the end of the month and this surprisingly helped. Thx!
Thank you! Yes, let us know! 🙏
Thank you! Yes, let us know! 🙏
Thank you so so much, it’s genuinely life changing X
who else has a flight the next day
I haven’t been on a plane for years as can’t take the stress- this made me LOL!! Thanks 👍👍
Is this really easy to do do you really have to put your mind to it
wow thank you SO much olivia! i love this step by step format, i followed it with you and it totally helped me with some anxiety (i mean, EXCITEMENT!) that i’ve been feeling about an upcoming long road trip. i have also never flown because of my fear but i do believe this will help me overcome that :-) thank you a million times! 💕
Btw. for those who are scared there is actually tips how you can help yourself, like sitting near the emergency exit, if your falling spread your legs and arms so your falling like a leaf etc.
Listening to you and your "anxiety fm" and I'm literally laughing on the bike in the gym, lol
The voice sounds familiar huh? 😉
Thank you Liv for these advices. I'll try them in my next flight... I love your videos, they really help me. Kind regards, you are a good example to me
A weird thing that makes me be less scared is recording outside the window.
Same here
I’m not scared of being up in the air or flying but I’m absolutely terrified of takeoff!!!!
Yes I can totally relate! I was always so scared of the takeoff
Yes! I am the same way I am only scared for take off but when I’m in the sky I’m totally fine it’s just that weird sinking feeling in your stomach at take off
Sameeeeeee that’s what I’m scared of
i don’t get how most people say the worst part is take off. it’s the middle when we are leaving 30,000 feet, to land.. I also hate air pockets, feels like the whole plane is free falling.
The only way out is through. Amazing.
Those random voices were funny!!! 😂😂😂 lol
Anxiety FM! 🤣
Flying for the first time this weekend. Thanks for the tips!
How was your flight??
@@TheQueenOfGreatness It wasn't bad. What helped me was the following... Wearing headphones and playing good music (Wicked Game by: Geminix, is what I played when the plane first started taking off. It made that part of the plane ride actually seem fun.) I'd also tell myself that I wasn't nervous, I was excited. The thing that helped me the most though was pretending that I was just in a weird vehicle driving up mountains. I never really let it register in my head that I was actually that high in the air. In my mind I was just high up a mountain. -Michael
@@TheSouthCarolinians
I fly ALL the time.
I'm glad you enjoyed.
I'm actually from Florence SC and flew into Florence for the first time Sunday LOL
I always tell myself, we're not up that high and I keep sipping water. I ALWAYS get the window seat to help relax me.
The only thing I can't get used to is the takeoff🤦🏾♀️
The worst take off I had so far was from Charlotte NC 😥
But I enjoy flying moreover than driving or car rides.
Glad you had an enjoyable experience and welcome to the ski high travels 😁✌🏾
@@TheQueenOfGreatness I didn't really mind the takeoff part, it reminded me of being on a roller coaster, being up high was my biggest issue. And, I actually tried to get the middle seat to avoid the window. haha :P
I don’t have a fear of flying. I have a fear of the plane NOT flying
I just learned how to ignore my fear of flight. Yeah I am terrified at first but when I began to see all the passengers they seem to not be bothered by the flight so I just act like what they are doing and pretend that I am busy with my phone.
I've been doing this for decades and I am not even afraid of flying. There's no better way to fly! Experience it all, to the third power!
I love landing with a smile and dry palms now :)
If you need a little more logical / physical help... try considering air as a liquid that reacts to its surroundings (a bit like the ocean or a river) - that was a top tip that came directly from a commercial pilot which has also helped.
Love the air liquid tip! And thank you so much for sharing and really leaning into your fears! :)
How was it?
Passed like what?
@@camibracco what do you mean?
This video has been really helpful dealing with my fear of flying, thank you so much for these tips!
Thanks!
I completely agree with you, thaks
FEAR - False Evidence Appearing Real
I recommend also to look at Pilot Mentour and Captain Joe channel.
I have to go to Florida in a few weeks and im so afraid. I will try these

Thanks Liv I have to take a flight with my momma in a week from Tampa to Las Vegas to see my grandparents
This is soooo funny! I’m planning a trip to NYC and I’m so scared to take the red eye!
“You didn’t write your will yet” 😂😂😂😂 I think that before every flight
5:58 I expected it to be "brain departure, good day, this is anxiety 295 brain to muscles, climbing fear passing unease".
thank you
This is great advise for all non-life threatening situations
But planes are not really one of those
Has a plane threatened you somehow? If so then what a bully.
Thank you! I just landed back home today :)
i’m not even scared the plane is going to crash but my anxiety is through the roof i have a plane to go on this morning i don’t know why i’m so scared i have the urge to just run out of my home and hide in. a park and then go back when there’s no chance i’d be able to get to the airport in time i’m just so nervous and i’m not sure why. i haven’t flown in over a year
