Hello, i love your work ! I wanna try something similar on my next bike build, would you be so kind and answer me some noob questions? 😅 1. Did you mixed the flakes with clear? And after flash of time -/- normal clear? 2. What's your nozzle size for the "flakes" - 1.6 ? And which "Brand" is the best ? And what size did you used? 3. What brand of "yellow candy etc." Do you use? And after candy no clear before taping...right? Thank you and keep up the amazing work 😊
Hey Lukas, and thanks for the kind words. Here we go! 1. I mixed the flakes in intercoat clear, a colorless binder that dries fast. After the last flake layer is laid down, give it a good 30min to 1hr before normal 2k clear. Notice that I added an extra coat of clear the next day after sanding it lightly, just so I could sand it again more agressivly before adding color/tape 😀 2. Here I used a 1.7 nozzle. It could have been bigger but it worked. Don’t worry about brand when spraying flakes, cheap is good. Although a 3M Accuspray is ideal, because it’s plastic and you can change the nozzles fast and throw them away when they’re done. 3. All candys are waterbased colors by Createx, Candy 2.0. They are tough, dry fast and you can tape over them as soon as they dry, so no need for a protective clear before taping. Cheers!
@@Turntwig wow, thanks for your answer. I have a sata 4000 with 1.6 nozzle, do you think it will Work too? Otherwise i will buy a nozzle setup (2.0) ? Thanks Turntwig
hey! awseome work and awesome vid! A question. Where do you buy your createx candy20? i saw that there is a dealer in Germany but could not see any prizing on the products. Best regards from Sweden Mats Lindström
@@Turntwig hej! Nej jag har inte fått ngt. Det försvann säkert på vägen. Men jag har fått tag på färg nu. Dock skulle jag behöva lite råd. Har du möjligtvis messenger?
love the work mind kind of thing, can i ask though if youre not clearing between layers did you not get lots of ridges from all the layers before final clearing? as ive had this issue before even with clearing inbetween and would like to knoe how you over come it? also what do you use as your interclear binder for flake carrier as ive always used 2k clear but its very costly.
james kilby hey man, glad you like it! Actually I’m not clearing at all between the candy layers, and sure enough, it creates ridges. One key thing is to keep the candy layers thin enough to avoid build up as much as it’s possible. Then you need to clear it with enough clear so you can sand the ridges down (wich I didn’t film..) and then lay about three coats of clear on top of that. Now every project and surface is different, so this is how I did on this one. When it comes to flake carrier, I prefer intercoat base, basically a colorless base that dries much faster than 2k clear. I’ve done that too, and it’s a pain in the butt 😁 Unless you use a flake buster, whole different game!
Cheers For the reply. Can you tell me what brand of jntercost base your using as when I try to explain to my local paint supplier they don't seem to understand me. Just tell me to use 2k clear or waterbase clear, which I tried but it was milky and not clear so ruined the flake effect
James Kilby well every paint brand seems to have their own, but one very good and known is House of Kolor’s SG-100. I happen to use Mipa (European brand) can’t remember what it’s called. But that’s also milky and dries flat and the bling only shows after final clear. Hope you get the right stuff 👌
I actually use the mipa wbc system now and I think 000 is their transparent base, but haven't tried that one after my experience with the max Meyer waterbase one which messed my job up. But if your sure the mipa comes out good then I may give it a go, as its got to be cheaper and quicker than 2k clear after every layer
I wanted to kindly remind you that I sent you a message regarding your video. Please see my previous message. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
So this is the first time any of your videos have popped up on my feed and that is amazing I'm not a fan of peanut tanks or tear drop tanks but wow that is gorgeous haven't looked through your other videos or anything but I am really praying you do more tanks and fenders that is beautiful
Nice work! Do you spray clear between your coats of candy? I have tried painting candy on top of previous layers and they seem to disappear. Never figured out what I did wrong. Even black (shadows)
Thanks! Hmm... sounds weird, but are you spraying candys from light to dark? If you don’t, the light colors won’t show up on the darker tones. But no, there is no need to clear between candys.
It didn’t get filmed, but I actually do this: sand the first clear coat over the flskes smooth, add a couple of clear coats on top of that AND sand that down before graphics 👍
That's amazing!!! How do you figure out your patterns? Is it a free hand kind of process? I just can't believe there's people out there this talented. Blows my mind!!!
Awwww maaaan, genius at work, genius at work. That was freaking amazing man, i was wondering how you would do it, but you make it look so easy. That was beautiful, a work of art. How did you know that was the custom paintwork i was looking for. It's like you're inside my head man. I'd love to buy that from you, but all i can afford is a rattle can paint job for my mustang fuel tank. Thanks for posting, you have given me food for thought. Awesome video man. I FREAKING LOVED IT. 😎👍👍👍
Someone with marginal experience in laying down masking tape could do what you did. The real artistry becomes evident if and when your patterns are absolutely symmetrical. God help you if and when you have to do a touch-up. That criticism aside, there is something to be said for this psychedelic scheme.
Suedzville Thanks! Yup, directly on top of Candy 2.0. There is 4030 added to the candys wich make them really tough, you can tape it as soon as it gets flat. I love it 👏
This os straight from the bottle because it’s Createx paint. I could have used concentrates and then i would have mixed it 20% with a transparent base/binder 👍

How long do you let each layer dry before you put the next pinstripe tspe down. And how soon do you need to take the Pinstripe tspe off before you ruin the paint job
james brungardt Here, I gave it a good 20 min before putting the tape on. These dry very very fast and are really tough, so as soon as they turn flat, you’re good to go. But 20 just to be sure! Actually the first set of tapes sits on for a couple of days so the only worry is that it doesn’t lift in the really tight turns. ✌️
