She had to think out of the box.
To make the allotment Fort Knox,
    Like Rodney she dares
    And skips home with pears
Now that’s how to outfox a fox! 🤞

    Jessie,
Someone mentioned hot water softening the pipe enough to get the fitting in. This may work, but a heat gun certainly will. It like an industrial blow dryer. You will need to test it to see what temperature softens it just enough, but won't melt the pipe. Good luck, you have a great idea!!

Wow. I'm so thankful we don't have badgers in our area. Also I think our allotment being basically a flat open field probably means there's probably nowhere suitable for foxes to make dens.
Hope you feel better soon. ♥️

    Hi Jessie
Absolutely LOVE your vlogs! So thank you for them :)
I would just like to suggest one more pipe along the tops of the arches. This I think will both support the end arches so they don't bend inwards, but also make the whole structure more rigid - and add more cost and work of course... :D
I so admire your positive mindset in the face of plot destruction! Get well soon. :)

Well - I did a diy solving problem task - thanks to Jessie. !? Had toilet fixtures delivered as the seat came of. Slightly did not fit - so instead of sending them back (what a pain) - I got my little hacksaw out and made them fit. In our house now - we call most of our mending "Doing a Jessie" ! 🥰

Absolutely brilliant bed-cover thingy, and so handsome too. I really like it all black, maybe spend a few bucks (quid?) on a can of black spray paint for plastic and cover the grey? I suppose that would defeat the purpose of buying grey to keep the cost down… All my sympathy to you for fighting that fever coming on you at the end, Garden Warrior.

Hello Jessie, first of all, I want to commend you for continuing to have a positive attitude, especially after all the Monal devastation caused by wildlife. I am very sure you have had to be struggling with chucking in the towel and just packing it up for the year. It seems for me I have rabbits and squirrels here and the squirrels will pluck off a tomato when it’s green bring it up on my deck and it will take one bite and then leave it there for me to find on the deck rail, like unbelievable. I do know that overall my garden is not quite as good as last year and because of a series of mistakes and my miss steps not following my plan. I do appreciate everything that I am getting and tonight for supper everything that we are going to have, except for the lamb was grown in my garden, and I’m very excited about that.
I do like the hinged netting that you created. I could offer one suggestion across the top. You have four black bent bows going across. At the top of each one in the center if you drill a little hole straight down and all four of them, then took another piece of the exact same piping and measured it from underneath the farthest left and the farthest right with that distance is cut it off, then hold that underneath the ribs and going through your hole put a second hole down into that second piece of pipe and if you get a short 2 inch bolt you could drop down one and the other there and that would keep all four of them they would not bend or apart either they would be held very very still, and it would also add a lot of stability but I think it’s a pretty easy thing to do. Just drill a couple holes, screwing a nut in a bolt and Bob’s your uncle. I hope your cold runs its course and gets on its way out. Y’all take care, Cya next thyme, Steven

I've just finished building a new cage for my brassicas with same pipe and fittings, I love mine, and it works really well. Some joints were not so tight, so I drilled some holes at the end of the pipes just before they disappeared into the corner pieces and used a tie wrap to secure. Hope you feel better soon 💚💚🌻🌻💚💚

Great video again Jessie. You always impress me with your ingenuity. Bless your heart for carrying on like a trooper with your voice too. Make sure you take some time to rest and take care of yourself. I was expecting it to turn into a subtitled episode at one point! Although, I accidently had captions on at the start and "Hello girlies" came up as "Hello Daddy" which made me chuckle 😂
Our sweetcorn has all been destroyed too ( I suspect squirrels) and first time growing it, so next year, they will be getting some form of protection. They looked great as well! There will be some very fat bellied happy squirrel chaps at least 😂 xxx

Just wondering if it is harder to plant and sow in your beds now that you only have access from one side?
Having a cold at any time is a downer but if it’s cold and grey you can snuggle in bed, when it’s the last bit of good weather that’s really hard to take. Hope it’s all over by the time we see you next week.

Look like you have got a great, simple design for your hoop covers. However, I see one problem… The central braces are going to foul large plants like brassicas that have spreading leaves. I have similar hoop beds, but I use 50 x 25mm battens around the bottom instead. This stopped the hoops from opening out and the hoops can still be lifted up by one person. You can still use your connectors to fix the hoops to the battens by screwing through them. Good luck and happy gardening.

You could use zip tides (using two zip tides like a X on each one) to attach to the arches to strength them so they don’t cave in? Would heating up the ends of the pipe in hot water work to temporarily soften the plastic enough to put the connections in? I do this with my irrigation pipe if it is marginally too small, and when the pipe hardens up again, it gives a very tight fit. I though it might be an easier process than filling.

Loving your design for badger protection, but I have a slight concern about those struts going across. There's a risk that the tension from the hoops might pull the connections apart over time? Maybe consider glueing or screwing the connections so they won't pull off.
    Nice pear btw :D

Instead of all that base pipework you could of simply screwed brackets on the inside of the wood and slotted the pipe in bending it over to the other side bracket. I use 25mm blue water pipe that way. Mind you, doing the cover your way keeps the netting on permanently i guess. I have to lift my netting up to get in. Do you think keeping chickens attracts the foxes so much to your plot?
