Savage was a great performer, fair enough he left WWF because they wanted to transition him away from the ring seeing as a hangover of the "old" while trying to build the "New Generation". Glad he did since my introduction to him in the WCW and he could still keep with the best of them.
One thing to keep in mind about the Hogan match formula in the 80's: even though it was pretty formulated and predictable, fans did not see Hogan matches often. He did weekly promos for his upcoming matches, but those were for untelevised house matches. He would do 1-2 TV squash matches per year, but aside from that, and 4-5 SNME programs throughout the year and an occasional Coliseum Video compilation, we didn't see his matches often. That's why the formula lasted so long
This is the ONLY comment I’ve ever seen that mentions that rarified tv appearances Hulk Hogan made. That would be true. That's one reason why Saturday Night's Main Event was a MUST SEE. As a kid I looked forward to SNME just to see Hogan wrestle a match. Good times.
Everyone is so busy crapping on Hogan for his idiotic personal life that they can no longer separate the man from the character yet, those same people are usually the ones demanding Chris Benoit be inducted into the HOF. We wouldn't have what we have today without them! This is all coming from someone who grew up hating Hogan as a kid, btw!* Even then I found it too cheesy but I cannot deny how massive Hulkamania really was. A very mundane and lame moveset. That being said, he was a decent wrestler, oozing charisma and nailing promos, for the first decade, or so, of his career. It makes you wonder if Verne had of made Hogan his number one star would WWE be the monster it is now or even still be around today considering it was built around Hogan ?
Watching this with my 45 year old eyes today I must say it’s terrible! However I was ten when I watched it with my dad and uncles and I thought it was the greatest thing I’d ever seen! Hogan slamming Andre was amazing at the time!
I'm gonna have to say - as a kid, Hogan vs Andre was the greatest thing ever. As an adult, the match itself is terrible. The -4 rating for the quality of the match is accurate, but the buildup, storytelling, and emotions for the match are a 5/5
I honestly don’t get why ppl hate on Hulk, the Hulkster, and Hulkamania. He was THE reason that we were HOOKED on the WWF as youngsters. I still remember suplexing and pile driving, and camel clutching, headlocking each other like crazy during lunch recess in the 80s.....my classmates watched the other promotions too, but it was strictly WWF for me. I remember being in the corner stores and reading up on the Pro Wrestling magazines and being absolutely turned off by the lower quality aesthetics of the NWA(Ric Flair, champ) & AWA(Rick Martel, champ). Those other two promotions weren’t up to par with he WWF. The WWF had a more complete presentation quality, while the other two looked cheap, like they were conducted in dark, dank, stinky, pool halls💩🤮 It’s no surprise the WWF looked more alluring to other promotions’ star wrestlers because as time passed you started seeing other promotions’ CHAMPIONS come to the WWF just to be mainly MIDCARDERS!! The Hulkster (with Vince behind the scenes) led the WWF to insane heights, as corny as he may have been to others💯 And I still say WWF!!!
Its because of the jealousy within Hogan's wrestling circle. He was the top dog in a dog eat dog business. He created his own lane. Fans just look for controversial and embellished stories from old bitter wrestlers to regurgitate from and it creates instant hatred.
Very well said. Well explain I actually enjoy all your insights.! Extremely, to a good job you’re extremely detailed.! I was a huge fan in the late 70’s to early 90’s. That’s after the fact.! The legends. I really agree with Randy Savage could of made it strictly on his own. I do believe that.!
Hogan has done more for professional wrestling than any other wrestler. He's bigger than warrior, macho man,Kevin Nash etc. Hogan brought wrestling to the mainstream with his hulk Hogan persona. And then years down the road he made wrestling huge again with his heel persona and the NWO. And believe me without Hogan the NWO doesn't last that long. Nor does it become the entity that Hogan made it. But yet Everyone who rode his back. The warrior, macho man Nash etc. Talks like Hogan was a leech. Look at their careers compared to Hogan. Not many was tuning into WCW to watch macho man as a champion and the same could be said about Nash. When warrior made it to WCW no one cared about him anymore. The nwo doesn't succeed without Hogan we've seen that several times. It's failed every time without him. And so many of you in the comments watching now wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Hogan. For us wrestling is dead there isn't another super star who can capture the world's attention the way that Hogan did
You gotta give credit to Iron Shiek and sticking to the match plan at Madison Square Garden and not being bribed by Verne to break Hogan's Leg in the process. That change could of been fatal for WWF.
As a child Warrior was my hero and while I liked Hulk I was so excited to see my hero win this match. I was a young kid and this match is likely what made me a wwf mark

I'm huge Hulkster fan. But Hulk was on steroids throughout the 1980s. He only looked younger in the 1990s because he stopped taking roids after Wrestle Mania 8. I'm still a Hulkamaniac. He gave so much to children's charities and still does to this day. HULK RULES ! ! !

It makes you wonder if Verne had of made Hogan his number one star would WWE be the monster it is now or even still be around today considering it was built around Hogan ?
Vince was primed for a run with or without Hogan. He was too aggressive a businessman to allow not having Hogan to stop him.
Andre the giant makes me laugh just listening to stories about him hahah
Thank you brother!
Loads of Hogans. In Wicklow. Keep it up Wrestling Bios love the work .
It’s such an amazing video thanks for sharing
Meltzer is stupid to call Hogan vs Andre anything but AN ICONIC CLASSIC!
You are the best RUclipsr on wrestling content
Wrestling Bios did a nice job with this video.
Watching this with my 45 year old eyes today I must say it’s terrible! However I was ten when I watched it with my dad and uncles and I thought it was the greatest thing I’d ever seen! Hogan slamming Andre was amazing at the time!
Love the content & videos keep dropping these🔥🔥 videos nothing but respect
Again. Super Video. Like always. I am expecting nothing less. Keep up the good work
Great video about Hulk Hogan.
Who could hit the thumbs down button on this? This is very well done.
Shawn Michael
People will hit the thumbs down button seconds (and I mean seconds) after it is uploaded. Lots of assholes on RUclips, plain and simple.
I'm gonna have to say - as a kid, Hogan vs Andre was the greatest thing ever. As an adult, the match itself is terrible. The -4 rating for the quality of the match is accurate, but the buildup, storytelling, and emotions for the match are a 5/5
Exactly, the rating is based on actual in ring wrestling which was horrific, as a event 10/10
Really good information
hogan was friggin AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is absolutely fantastic 💪👍
The Hulkster (with Vince behind the scenes) led the WWF to insane heights, as corny as he may have been to others💯
And I still say WWF!!!
Its because of the jealousy within Hogan's wrestling circle. He was the top dog in a dog eat dog business. He created his own lane. Fans just look for controversial and embellished stories from old bitter wrestlers to regurgitate from and it creates instant hatred.
@@Sean_78 sounds about right
Hogan vs Andrea till this day, is the biggest, most influential match of all time.
Hogan fought some chick named Andrea? I never knew he did intergender matches....
Ander the Gaint.
@@matthewsmith5374 what's an Ander?
@@robertcsatlos6869 about 520lbs.
It's Andre. . .
Excellent video it captures the concept Hulk hogan to Hollywood hogan
Well ya know something dude!? It's not every day that Wrestling Bios tackles the power of Hulkamania, brother. Here at the Pontiac Superdome!
Whether they like it or not hulk hogan is the reason why wwe become popular back then
I'm halfway through this video. It's fun. I'll be subscribing.👍
For us wrestling is dead there isn't another super star who can capture the world's attention the way that Hogan did
Excellent job on this doc
Awesome video brother
You gotta give credit to Iron Shiek and sticking to the match plan at Madison Square Garden and not being bribed by Verne to break Hogan's Leg in the process. That change could of been fatal for WWF.
As a child Warrior was my hero and while I liked Hulk I was so excited to see my hero win this match. I was a young kid and this match is likely what made me a wwf mark
Your right about the stars that where the Mega Powers with TV screens not being able to handle it. Watching those couple of still frames with the 2 and Miss Elizabeth even our modern devices feel like they should just Crack in half seeing the sheer magnitude of the MEGA POWERS!! Looking back they were the 2 man power trip (STONE COLD & HHH) of their era.
Really great videos, man.
These are great- good work!
Complete 70s and 80s story...... Terry was born blah blah 1953 in... But 100% the real story is hulk's chest hair at the 9:01 mark brother!
Wrestlemania 6 is 1 of my favorite Wrestlemanias of all because it showed the possibility of teenage Hulkamaniacs growing 2 B young adult Warriors & the passing of the guard can happen furthermore saying nothing 4 forever in the lifes of mortals
Well presented and insightful
Great video ‼️
thx 4 this really well done documentary. Hogan had an incredible run with Andre the Giant, Macho Man and the ultimate warrior. Than I lost some interest in the WWE until Stonecold came along.
Hulk Hogan looked older in the 80s than in the 90s
It's strange so did roddy piper
Coke and other drugs
I'm huge Hulkster fan. But Hulk was on steroids throughout the 1980s. He only looked younger in the 1990s because he stopped taking roids after Wrestle Mania 8. I'm still a Hulkamaniac. He gave so much to children's charities and still does to this day. HULK RULES ! ! !
Oh! You're in Belfast too? Nice!!!

I wish we didn't refer to professional wrestlers as superstars. It's one of those WWE-isms that drives me nuts. Lol. I hate when I hear "Dusty Rhodes was Hogan's favorite superstar." No, he was his favorite professional wrestler. All these weirdo WWE-isms drive me crazier than they probably should but whatever. Lol. Besides that note, awesome work as always.
AWA could have been huge if Gange knew what he had in Hogan
excellent as always.... should cover matt borne career many do not release he preformed in wm1 with steamboat
