Back when this song came out and was a hit (early 70s), there was an optimism that things and society could really follow the positive path of this song. Now here it is, 2024, and we're still waiting.
I remember when this song came out my mom use to get so happy listening to it on the radio as she was cleaning or doing things about the house. She would sing along, and we would dance, and I'd try to sing it with her. Id giggle as she would act silly and tickle me. I miss her so much, but I still get so happy herring this. Love you Mom, Miss you so much. Thanks for sharing. Bless and be well.
Stevens' biggest hit in the U.S. was his gospel-inflected single "Everything Is Beautiful" (1970). It won a Grammy Award, was the theme song for his summer 1970 TV show, a number one hit on both the pop and Adult-Contemporary charts, and marked his first time in the Top 40 on the country charts, peaking at number 39. The single sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc.
Ray was known as a writer of novelty songs, but he was a remarkable musician. Trouble is, he didn't seem to want the world to see it. In this song, we couldn't ignore it.
In roughly 45 days we elect a new leader and we should all listen to this song to know what our country once was and can still be. Love thy brother and sister and love God ❤️🙏
We sang this song at our school pageant. The school was diverse and I wish the sentiment of this song would still resound on the airwaves and in the school rooms. Now everyone is out for himself and we forget that we need each other.
A few years ago he re-recorded this. Like a 50th anniversary edition type thing. Talking about various people or groups that try to divide us and how relevant it is today. I loved this song as a kid and even then, as a tot, i felt the weight of the lyrics. And i wanted to be one of the kids singing in the background. Lol
I agree Angela, so uplifting, and relevant still today. Btw, the children singing at the beginning, and during the chorus include Ray’s two daughters at the time.
You are correct about him being best known for his humor, but, with all respect, he has done a LOT more serious songs over his 67 year career then you give him credit for... From "Misty" to "Mr Businessman" or "Butterfly Inside a Coupe De Ville" or "May There Always Be a Star Spangled Banner" or "Thank You" or "My Dad" or "Funny Man"... He even did a respectable cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying"... His first professional release, "Silver Bracelet" in 1957 was also a serious song... Or there is also his rendition of "United We Stand" with Mama Cass Elliot, Lulu. and Andy Williams from Ray's TV show in the '70s... And those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head...
Hey, Angela. When I was a kid growing up, my mother sang this song around the as she did the housework. She had a beautiful singing voice. But being young I was more of a fan of Ray Stevens when he sang songs like GITARZAN, AHAB, THE ARAB, and tge parody of Gladys Knight and the Pips on his song THE MOONLIGHT SPECIAL. Speaking of the great Gladys Knight, she and the Pips have a rare gem in their catalog called DADDY COULD SWEAR, I DECLARE. You will love it. I promise. Keep going and enjoy.
One of his few, if only, serious hits. It was a good song for children. What sounds pedestrian today, was more needed in previous time periods. Kind of like All In the Family.
This song came out during a time when segregation was still in the air and many soldiers were stuck in Vietnam. Maybe even more relevant now than ever🎼✌🏾
Good song! Jackie De Shannon performs a song titled What The World 🌎🌍 Needs Now! Which has a similar theme I think! I like Jackie's song much better for some reason! Until whenever! See ya!
Responding to your reaction! There is always something going on in the 🌎🌍 world isn't it? I hope the day comes when all that sinister nonsense will finally be done and overwith! It will be true relief when that happens! I can't wait! Adios!
This planet could be a Garden of Eden but greed, hate, fear, jealousy, egocentricism, indolence, possessiveness, demandingness and manipulation of other's for one's own purposes (did I miss anything?) make it unbearable at times. There is only one way to live and it is expressed in most cultures in much the same way: "What you do not want for yourself do not do to another." All else is only discourse.
Heh, I forgot about this song. It carries such a nice sentiment. But it's a shame that five decades later Stevens turned out to be a xenophobe pushing novelty songs filled with anti-immigrant rhetoric diametrically opposite the sentiment expressed in this song.
This song was, once, the Number One song in the country! Let THAT sink in.
Ray, who is known widely for funny/novelty songs wrote an all timer here and this was big back in the day as you can imagine.

Me too!
It was a song for its time.....big hit on the radio back then, as I recall....
I wish he would have sung more songs such as this. Lord knows the we need this.
Beautiful song. Was then. Still is now. And now more than ever the world needs it.
Beautiful song! My God we need this message today!! 😊
I just love watching videos that makes Angela smile, I am an old man with a crush.

In 1970 when he released this song I was 9 years old. He has a a beautiful voice.

After 1968, this was a breath of fresh air. Still need fresh air
For the 1st time since 68 I'm feeling a bit hopeful again. Maybe this time?

Great #1 Song from 1970❤❤❤❤
Love love this song❤

What a fun 70's song. I remember this as a kid. Would't it be it nice to have happy, fun music again.

Everything is beautiful here in new Zealand
Ray Stevens had hits with comedy songs, so this totally came out of left field.
I agree Angela, so uplifting, and relevant still today. Btw, the children singing at the beginning, and during the chorus include Ray’s two daughters at the time.
Ray Stevens is a very stealthy genius. He slips up on you and you find yourself saying... damn that guy is great.
Ray Stevens was known for his crazy songs.......like "The Streak", "It's me again Margaret" and "Since Bubba Changed his name to Charlene"
Or "Taylor Swift is stalking me!"
@@george217 WTH are you talking about???? Make sense, dude.
@@CharlesPhillips-no3sz That is one of Ray's more recent comedy songs
99% of the Ray Stevens songs are funny/satirical. This one was a bright spot in a dark time. Glad you liked it!

And keep in mind that this is the same guy who does all the amazing comedy songs as well.
A very beautiful song by Ray, who normally sings goofy comedic songs
One of his few, if only, serious hits. It was a good song for children. What sounds pedestrian today, was more needed in previous time periods. Kind of like All In the Family.
YAY!!!
This song came out during a time when segregation was still in the air and many soldiers were stuck in Vietnam. Maybe even more relevant now than ever🎼✌🏾
Love Ray Stevens’ gospel music. Jim Nabors also sings this song.
Another great uplifting and positive song is "Walking On Sunshine" (1985) by Katrina And The Waves.
This is a beautiful song , a bit different to some of his songs. He also did a good version of Misty-CW
His version of Misty is another great tune. Then you get his comedy, like Guitarzan, Ahab The Arab.
I think I’m related to Ray Stevens on my dad’s side
Way off decade but, can you react to glory of love?. Peter Cetera...his oozes lol. Love it.
I was kid when this song came out, I loved it then, I love it now. Words to live by.
This was used in two episodes of the Simpsons.
I’m gonna laugh when you get to some of the others. 😂
Good song! Jackie De Shannon performs a song titled What The World 🌎🌍 Needs Now! Which has a similar theme I think! I like Jackie's song much better for some reason! Until whenever! See ya!
this was a wonderful counterpoint to the racial tensions of the 60's and the Vietnam war raging on
Great song Angela You should listen to Misty by Ray Stevens too Really good tune
This song reminds me of We Are the World which was 15 years later so... Idk 🤷♂️
Another good one of his noncomedy ones that you might like is his version of "Unchained Melody ".
React his Indian Love Call.
y listen to this song in other reaccion good message
Used to be used as a Coke commercial

Listen to Guitarzan. It's rap before it's time.
Were you a Sesame Street kid, Angela
Today's world ..most are not beautiful...too much hate.

No everything is not beautiful, Ray, not with der fuerer around.
