- This is the fifth track from Riley Lee’s album Breath-Sight (息観).
Ajikan is a meditation on the 'Original Sound', the AH, the "word' that was in the beginning of all things.
Ajikan also refers to an ancient esoteric meditation technique, beginning with imagining an infinitesimal point of light in the centre of one's chest, and gradually watching it grow bigger and bigger, until this heavenly light bursts from your body to encompass your surroundings, the world and ultimately the universe.
The solo shakuhachi 尺八 (bamboo flute) music on this album is a honkyoku 本曲 ("Original Piece"), a repertoire of breathing meditations created, transmitted and performed largely within the Zen Buddhist tradition.

If possible, try breathing with the music. Inhale as if you were going to play the next phrase on your own flute, but do so only through your nose. Exhale either through your mouth as if you were blowing into a flute, or also through your nose. Keep this up for as long as is comfortable for you. Don’t worry if you take in too much air or run out of breath. You don’t have to be in sync all the time.
The music can help develop concentration, but it also can be soothing, soaring, sensual and relaxing. Music for yoga. Music for meditation. Shakuhachi music is the sound of bamboo, brought to life.
