    I read more physical books/e books in the winter, then more audiobooks in the summer that way I can go on walks or do other fun summer things while listening to a book!

    A fantasy book I loved is The Priory of the Orange Tree! It has female protagonists, multiple storylines, magic lore, and worldbuilding and it was amazing. Fair warning, its quite long, but i felt like it was easy to pick up and put down without totally forgetting the plot, so you can take your time!

    I absolutely love Michelle Sagara's Chronicles of Elantra (a fictitious city, not the car). I've yet to get past the 10th book and I don't know if you've read them yet, but it's just about my favorite fantasy series. The books are on the longer side (still not ridiculous, though), but I zoom right through them.

    love this video Carter! I just recently started reading for pleasure again back in April and the book series that truly had me in a chokehold was the ACOTAR series. if I did read a book for fun, it used to take me at least a month to get through it, but I finished two books in that series in one week- I literally couldn’t put them down. fantasy, adventure, love, smut- I ate them up!!! the first book is definitely slow but I think it builds the necessary foundation for the others. I hope you’ll give it another chance, you won’t regret it! 🤍

    • @CarterSullivan

      I honestly love that for you!!! While I didn't love the ACOTAR series, I can totally see why people love them! And I think they are a great series, but I'm just not into that type of Fantasy really if that makes sense!! I've tried to finish the third book like three times now😂😅

    Stella is so cute. She reminded me there at the end of an ebook benefit I don't hear discussed much - with ebooks, I don't have to worry about my cat gnawing on the corners of the pages. I tried to explain to her that we shouldn't eat books and ESPECIALLY not library books, but it never got through. 🤪

    YES on the Kindle Unlimited thrillers/romances being very similar in plot/style/etc. That's part of the reason I started going hard at my TBR list because I wasn't getting much from KU. I'm weirdly also getting into fantasy right now. I say weird because it wasn't a genre I paid much attention to before I read Harry Potter. (I'll admit I still think KU was worth it if only because it has all the Harry Potter books! That + the pandemic pushed me to finally read the series.) Anyway, I just read a fantasy called Uprooted by Naomi Novak that I highly recommend. I took a quick look through my reads. Also recommend: Lillith's Brood trilogy by Octavia Butler, The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, the Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer, and the Imperial Radch trilogy by Ann Leckie. (That last one had a bit of a slow start for me. I didn't think I was going to be able to relate to the characters, but I was so, so wrong.)

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  Год назад

      Oh I just mean thrillers/romance in general hoenstly not even just on KU- it's all so repetitive 😅 Ou gonna look into those ones, thanks for sharing!

    • @katiekaboom7747
      @katiekaboom7747 Год назад

      @@CarterSullivan Fair enough! I guess I find KU books particularly repetitive in the thriller and romance genres, BUT I also went through a period of reading all of an author's books available on KU back to back, and obvs the same author will have the same kind of voice throughout their books. But I even find that with bigger authors NOT on KU like James Patterson and Dean Koontz, so it's not specific to KU. I just don't love reading a lot of fluffy fiction, the kind of book whose plot I won't even remember the specific details of in a couple weeks, y'know? But I agree with all your tips and especially that you should start with a lighter book when you're just starting to come out of a slump. Great video, as always!

    I was talking to my mom the other day and she's a big reader but primarily thrifts books. I was telling her I was selling the books I didn't like or knew I wouldn't read again on Facebook Marketplace and she had no idea how much new books cost here in Canada. 😂 I told her how much I sell for on Marketplace and she was like, that's a good price. Books aren't that much more expensive than that, and I was like, books are SO much more expensive! But it's because she hasn't bought a book new in a while. 🤪

    do you have a goodreads or storygraph account that you share? I like seeing folks' reviews/ratings/or what their reading/read when I'm trying to find a book to read.
    also, I think it definitely helps to vary up the genres of the books you read now and then! I'm currently taking a little break from romance. For fantasy I recommend Children of Blood and Bone, magical realism, I remember loving The Night Circus. I'm currently reading A Man Called Ove, which is fiction, not sure what other sub genres it may contain, but it reminds me of the old man in the movie Up lol. plus there's a. netflix movie that came out in January starring Tom Hanks, called A Man Called Otto so I moved it up my tbr lol.
