my fave reading slump technique is to go to the library & check out about 10 books with reckless abandon based solely on the vibes of the front cover (and maybe a quick skim of the first couple pages) and then DNF liberally as soon as I realize I'm not feeling it. it works great to get rid of that feeling of worrying about whether you'll like the book, and with 10 different picks there's usually at least a couple gems in there!! i've found a couple all-time favorite books in the world w this method actually haha
omg this is brilliant. Just the other day I was screaming like a banshee because the library here sorts books by author and not genre. The old one had genre and within genre sorted by author but now there are text books about weird 1800 politics next to smutty romance... But!! If I just randomly do your method, I might find some unexpected gems. I'm gonna try this tomorrow!
I have read Twilight *SO* many times in the last couple years because it's basically comfort food in book form, and it's the only thing I've found that has a 100% success rate for breaking me out of a slump. It's become such a meme in my partner's family that you can tell what kind of year I'm having based on how many times I read Twilight.
I feel like this applies to TV shows or youtube videos as well. I've been reading more the last two months, but my viewing has been almost strictly rewatching Community, Gilmore Girls, and Jenna Marbles videos on youtube and not much else, but I've also experienced the reverse, where I'm watching new and fun shows and enjoying my time in that way, but my reading suffers. I feel like its a sign of early burnout, and just letting yourself selfoothe and comfort yourself with something familiar is helpful when you're tired or feeling overwhelmed. I plan on rereading more of my favorite books next year to kind of cleanse my reading pallet as I go
I do this with the movies 💀 I use them as background noise bc I know all the words and do not need to watch the screen lmao It got to the point where one of my brothers friends actually asked me if I ever watch anything else bc I had it on every time he came over 🤡
@@elkq0 I can't with most books because the plot is spoiled and knowing what's ahead really pulls me out of the immersion, but the fact that Twilight had very little actual plot to begin with (topped with a HEAVY dose of nostalgia) makes it a lot easier for me to consume repeatedly. I'm reading it purely for comfort and the vibes, and since I'm not looking for anything else, it works.
Little did intro lexi know, some people are watching not for any reading slump reasons, but for they are binging every lexi video because her videos are just that good. I don't mind my reading slumps because reading is just a form of entertainment for me. I wouldn't feel bad if I didn't feel like watching movies or playing a game either. I appreciate the well thought and articulated tips here nonetheless. "A new version of something you used to love" has worked really well for me to get back in a reading mood
Booktube broke my reading slump. Channels like yours, where serious readers provide frank opinions. When a booktuber enthusiastically recommends something, it's usually a winner. Booktube has helped me find the great books worth reading. Love your channel!
"posted 20 seconds ago" *FUk YES* I LOVE how you always make sure to remind us that much of what we see on the internet is not something a normal person would or could do. I'm on my 24th book this year and that's A LOT for me. It's often hard to be proud of such an achievement when influencers are out here reading 10x as much. Thank you for reminding us
@@chloejulianna_ i can totally understand that!! I didn't read a single book for my own pleasure for like 3 full years. Hopefully you'll find your way out of it eventually☺️
I overcame my most recent reading slump with the Heartstopper series! Graphic novels are so fun and fast, can give you that feeling of accomplishment. Also Heartstopper is such a lovely story that everyone can relate to or knows someone who can relate to with the plot or subplots.
"What in your soul you want to read? You might not have an answer for that. But frequently, you will, it's just not gonna be something that you're super proud of." Resonates with me so much when I know I should finish The Idiot but my soul wants to ingest that cowboy stand-alone series.
“0 responsabilità overlap” god every time you open your mouth I’m reminded of why immediately subscribed to you and continue to watch your videos. You’re humor genuinely meets me where I’m at and aligns with me deeply. And the way I can tell it’s like genuinely you, that you would think these things on your own your own time or help a friend this way. I don’t even see myself particularly in a slump but I still decided I needed to watch and I’m 6:33 in and I don’t regret it in the slightest. I’m actually motivated to read more than I do but at my own pace and just be self indulgent.
I will read every single Ali Hazelwood book and I will LOVE IT. Her book got me out of a 5 year slump and got me back into reading!! I just have to space them out since their plots are so similar!
I know I’m late to commenting, but I wanted to add what I do when I’m in a reading slump, currently just got out of one (that’s how I found your video). What I like to do, even though it may sound counterintuitive, is pick a book I’m intimidated to read for what ever reason and read along side with the audiobook. I’ll listen to the audiobook and follow along on the physical book. It helps me enjoy a book that I would not have otherwise read without doing the work of concentrating or focusing on every word. I do this because when I’m in a slump my brain just wanders off, so like if the MC says they are flying over the Eiffel Tower, I stop reading to google “how tall is the Eiffel Tower” then down the rabbit hole I go 😂, so the audiobook narrator is the one to keep me focused or gives me the opportunity to keep reading while I google how deep the Puerto Rico trench is 😅. So if anyone sees this and decides to try it, I really hope it helps. ❤
I recently discovered you because of your twisted love plot breakdown and then binged all of your other videos and i just wanted to say I really appreciate you haha
A book in an interesting format that I absolutely adore is Murder Your Employer: McMaster’s Guide to Homicide by Rupert Holmes. It’s formatted like a textbook and tells the story of three different students in McMaster’s. I’m currently on my second read in an attempt to get out of a slight slump. For me, sometimes doing rereads reactivates the reading bug lol.
@@nayas6157 I definitely recommend the physical or ebook. I have the audiobook too but haven’t listened to it yet. My plan is to listen to it when I do my re-read of the physical or ebook.
I just finished the whole throne of glass series and I needed this, I tried to jump right into crescent city instead of taking a break that was most definitely needed
Manga always helps me through reading slumps, short text and beautiful art work. After a couple of days im ready to be back in the high fantasy books (or war and peace... one day) Very glad I found your channel
Only problem is, i can consistently and voraciously consume hundreds upon hundreds of chapters of manga and webtoon, but am incapable of finishing a “real” book
I just got back into reading this year and had my very first reading slump spanning the whole month of November up to this point. I really needed this.
check and mate literally one of my favourite things i have read this year. its cozy and cute and comforting and i read it when it came out and i already want to read it again. just good vibes for SAD season
this is how you lose the time war is a great recommendation, it got me out of my most recent reading slump. it’s perfect for girlies who have grown weary from the acotar-ification of genre fiction and are also clinically depressed
I SWEAR i just an hour ago finished check and mate and i’m in love too. as well as the love hypothesis, this story is so simple, yet addictive, heartwarming and truly humorous. at this point, i would read anything from ali hazelwood, even her shopping list, if she publishes it.
I LOVE your assessment of The Cruel Prince series, that's exactly how I felt. Smart for understanding it while at the same time using very few brain cells
Wow wow wow absolute praise for the side note you made about unapologetically liking things that are not high brow literature. Guilty pleasures don't need shade or guilt! Words to live by. Also keep making videos, your content slaps.
Anne of Green Gables is my go-to when I need to go to my happy place book-wise. Also, when I need a slump or need a palate cleanser, I like cozy mysteries for this purpose. The Lighthouse Library Mystery series is my jam.
I came out of a multi-year (like, 10) slump this year and I set a goal to read 4 books July-December. I've read 15, so I feel good if I take a break to play a video game or something!
These are the books I gave at least 4.5: - Tress of the Emerald Sea (Brandon Sanderson) - The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches (Sangu Mandanna) - Mistborn 1st Trilogy (Brandon Sanderson) - Divine Rivals (Rebecca Ross) - The House in the Cerulean Sea (TJ Klune) Most definitely a fantasy individual 😅
Tips for getting out of a reading slump: 1. If you want to be one of those girlies who reads classics, start with comedies. Lower stakes, easy to relate to, the characters can have sarcastic voices in your head, etc. Wanna read Oscar Wilde? Put down "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and pick up "The Importance of Being Earnest". Wanna read Shakespeare? Put down "Hamlet" and read "Much Ado About Nothing". 2. And speaking of Shakespeare, his plays are MEANT to be watched, not read, so read alongside a performance or after watching a performance to help with comprehension. 3. Read the book version of a show/movie you like. I did this with "Good Omens" and most recently "Coraline" (2 Neil Gaiman examples, how fun), but there are a lot of examples. Most obviously would be the original fairytales that some of your favorite Disney movies were based on. 4. And speaking of book-versions-of-movies, don't discount children's novels. I listed Coraline as an earlier example, but I have the Guardians of Childhood series on my TBR (the books that DreamWorks' "Rise of the Guardians" was based on). I want to read the How to Train your Dragon books and at some point get my hands on the old Pixie Hollow Fairies books, so yeah. Children's novels are more than just "Narnia" (though you could read that, too) 5. Fanfiction. Just gonna leave this here. Fanfics are free, portable, and you can often skip character intros to get straight to the "good stuff". Booktok has been (rightfully) criticized for the "trope-ification" of book recs, but "sorting by trope" is literally how AO3 works, so if that's your jam then start there. 6. If the likes of Neil Gaiman and Stan Lee will call comics "real literature" then gosh darnnit so will I. Don't let pretentious bootyholes tell you otherwise. Pick up a graphic novel. 7. If you want to read non-fiction but you're not good with history, you don't gravitate towards memoirs or biographies, and you lowkey think the self-help genre can be a bit of a scam (aka you are me), then consider cultural studies for social/political topics that might interest you, the true crime section if you're a true crime girlie, or coffee table books for something simple. There's also books on science, art, philosophy, literally anything. It's more than just history and memoirs, I promise 8. (This mostly applies to people who are parents or older siblings of younger kids) Read to someone. Whether it's Dr.Seuss to a young child or the first few chapters of Harry Potter with a younger sibling, you can get yourself back into the habit of reading AND pique their interest in it, too. 2 birds with 1 stone, baby
I find that I manage to focus better when I make the effort to limit the amount of RUclips shorts / Instagram reels I watch 😂 I swear these things are like drugs. When I consume large amounts of this kind of content, I'm in a constant reading slump and can only digest audiobooks at best (and only while I'm doing something else) because reading itself seems like an impossible task 😅 I'll definitely check out the Truly Devious series! Atm I'm listening to "Five Survive" and reading "Iron Flame" AND (trying to read) The Count of Monte Cristo so I'm gonna need something light afterward 😂
spec-fic novellas are my go to for getting out of a reading slump. You get a quick blast of a story with high level of novelty to keep you engaged, that usually hinges on a really chewy concept that will get your brain ticking again. I think its always best to avoid doorstop books because you'll burn out.The book that helped me release this was my back door into reading again was Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh- it got my brain craving books again after nearly 4 years of not reading any published fiction
I feel most of us aren’t here cause we’re in a reading slump- more just that we’re lifeless consumers who will follow ur content loyally to the edges of the earth [edit: this video was actually so comfy tho🥹 I’ll comeback again when I need this]
It really makes me feel my age when my nostalgia reads are not Hunger Games or Cruel Prince but Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series (which was just the Abhorsen trilogy when I was middle grade) and Tamora Pierce's Tortall universe quartets...
This is such a brilliant video, and as usual you deliver everything with such thought and sensitivity! I had two huge reading slumps in 2023 and was so mad at myself and felt so demoralised by seeing people smash through 10 books in a week or something ridiculous when I could barely get through 20 pages a month. But the context of these reading slumps were that I had 3 very close family bereavements in the space of 10 months... And I was expecting to find joy somewhere?! I was just about managing my work and social commitments, and to put the pressure on myself to find joy when I'd lost people I loved is, objectively, a brutal standard to have held myself to. My go to slump busting technique is to read an Agatha Christie novel. Short, low stakes, formulaic mystery that I know I'll want to try to solve! Also, I've only recently found your channel and am already obsessed with it and wish we were friends ✌🏻
thank you thank you thank you for not recommending only mysteries, which is apparently "getting out of reading slumps 101" for everybody but autistic people like me, who guess the entire plot on page 10 lol I actually have already being doing what you suggested (re-reading a book for nostalgia reasons) and it's working!!!!! so glad this video validated me
A little thing that helps me is to actively engage with the book I want to read (but heads up, this absolutely won’t work with everyone). Specifically, I keep my book journal next to me while I read and record random information, like main characters, general summary of events, quotes I like, things I hate, things I like, things I think were inspired by other things, etc. This does I guess “homework” the reading experience, but I’ve found in the middle of a slump it’s so helpful to me because I don’t like leaving pages in my book journal half finished, so at worst I’ll finish most of it and then describe why I DNFed it and whether I’d try it again
I got back into reading last year so I’ve been actively working to avoid a slump. But I also know this is a bad time of year for me on a number levels. So when I hit a wall early this month, I was disappointed. But I took a step back - returned my library books and cancelled my holds. I tried a shorter book but it didn’t grab me. So I DNFd and gave it some time until I felt like reading something. And I tried again with the Wayward Children series this week and I’m on book four. I think it’s important to take care of yourself and like you were saying - what and if you’re reading doesn’t mean anything about you as a person and your worth.
I would actually love to hear your thoughts on the Ali Hazelwood's books you've read 😍 They are the perfect dose of serotonin and dopamine that my brain needs sometimes to get out of a reading slump, along with a good reread of a Mariana Zapata slow burn novel 😂
FanFiction is both the cause of and the cure for my reading slumps in turn. If I find myself on the third FanFiction of the month it’s time for a comfort read to bring me back to the published world lol
That's exactly what I need right now! Lately I've been starting so many books at the same time only to put them aside after a few pages. But I trust your recommendations 100% and am confident that I will now find the one book that will get me out of my reading slump 😅
This is all such great advice, thanks for taking the time to think deeply about this topic and give some solid recs. I’m a 31-year-old mom with a baby, so probably not your target audience, but I’ve really been enjoying your content, your takes, and your whole philosophy around reading. In this stage of life, when I have less than one brain cell and am struggling to stay on task with daily life, I find myself listening to a lot of audiobooks. I just listened to the whole Percy Jackson series, and it was such a joy to revisit a childhood favorite. Definitely a good way to break out of a slump and rediscover the fun of reading. Love your videos and the humor and thoughtfulness you bring to the conversation.
Bro i just finished crooked kingdom a few days ago and I haven't been on a reading high this much in so long i started reading another book like immediately it's been so long it feels like coming home. The yearlong reading slump has been officially beaten. Like i was reading the whole time but i am READING. now Edit: actually you're so real for putting raybearer here it actually is the series that got me to read again at all after years
i really recommend reading a nonfiction book about a subject you are passionate about (other than reading) that's how i got out of a really big reading slump
Thank you so much for your words on addressing why reading slumps happen but also just the kind reminder to read what you like. I cannot tell you how much time I've wasted beating myself up because I couldn't get through something "of quality" instead of just reading for the fun of it. So thank you
I’ve watched a lot of “how to break a reading slump” videos and this is by far the best!! The advice of being honest with yourself about what you actually enjoy and going back to your roots is so important. Thank you! You’ve earned a new subscriber :)
I’ve been in a year long reading slump after a really bad depressive episode and in the past couple weeks i’ve finally felt ready and determined to get back into reading ❤️
the three i've found work for me in some way or the other each time is: a. re-reading my favourites: i'm talking i-can-quote-this-book-back-to-you levels of re-reading. as an anxiety-haver, something about knowing exactly what's coming next but also knowing you LIKED it when you read it first is a winning combination to get out of a slump (six of crows duology is 100% my go-to for this) b. trashy romance: 100% true. will i want this to live on my goodreads as a reminder i read this and truly enjoyed it at some point? no. will i still do it knowing its effective? yes. bridgerton i'm looking at you. c. celeste ng. don't ask me. that's a solution. whatever she writes i am unable to NOT gobble up she's fantastic. this was such a good video lexi! it's been a while since i've been a "reader" re: transitioning into adulthood saying you love reading but literally never read, and some of these recommendations really made me want to get back!
The Crazy Rich Asians series would be fantastic as a slump breaker. Especially if you’ve seen the movie and liked it, the books are even more chaotic messy drama filled and FUNNY
These are such great ideas! The book that broke my years long reading slump was terribly written but so much fun, gripping and I finished it in a day. It was so relieving to finish a book in under a year 😭 And since then I've read all manner of things but the key really is just reading whatever you want and not holding yourself to some standard
Finally someone who speaks the truth. So relatable.. found myself laughing quietly in every section. Yes listen to her and listen to your heart like she said. Thanks for making such a detailed video ... much needed.
I also recommend graphic novels!! they were what got me out of my SEVERAL YEAR reading slump my junior year of highschool. there are some adult ones, but reading the teen/kids ones are just as good sometimes!! i think i’m going to try to find my old percy jackson books and reread and maybe finally finish the series since i stopped reading them at the fourth book of the second series. here’s to hoping it works!!
Your channel has been therapeutical. I used to not even put my currently-read books on Goodreads in fear my friends would see if it was something embarrassing like "a YA novel published in the year of our Lord 2012" but now I'm more forgiving towards myself and have been proselitysing to others to share their guilty-pleasure reads. We all have a more intellectual/curious side and a two-braincells-and-both-crave-dopamine side.
I was in a slump from April through like a week ago and I totally agree with these tips, especially letting yourself slump! Guilt just makes it worse. What's helped me this week is listening to Mistborn as an audiobook because it's ya and not exactly complex, but it is fun and I can knit at the same time (also changing my meds lol unfortunately depression can be brought on by medical reasons)
I'm (probably) almost out of ny reading slump and what really helped me is to read romance novels every now and then (usually after a partly heavy book). and ngl, this video is probably my fave getting-out-of-the-slump tips and explanation to them.
Hi Lexi! I'm audhd and I mainly read as a stim and a way to self-regulate, something I kind of learned on my own during childhood. And that means that I read a loooot! In days I am very stressed, I hyperfocus on reading and can read up to 8 books in a day. Is it healthy? I doubt it! You made me think about how I judge myself for not "truly" reading since I don't usually pick up more serious books, mainly fantasy and dystopian just for fun. I've been in my worst reading slump since the start of october and it has been super bad for me, i've been going crazy trying to find my way back to my daily readings. I hope your guide can help me lol so thank you for this video!
healthy is completely relative, if you need to go into your little goblin cave and just absorb books all day every once in a while and it makes you happy/keeps you functioning when you're not overwhelmed you are doing something good for you!! i promise it'll come back, just keep staying in touch with yourself and your feelings
i found ur channel a while ago but i am very much enjoying my stay! i've been in a reading slump for a bit and i've just allowed myself to be in it without judgement. i've found the judgement i put on my reading slump has made it last longer long term. i've put a bunch of these on my tbr for when i feel like reading again! also to lose a time war broke my longest reading slump of like three years. it's just that good lol
I am definitely in the opposite of a reading slump (aka in a reading frenzy to escape my life after a breakup ✌🏼) but this is going to be so helpful when the slump inevitably comes. A romcom is my go-to genre to break out of a reading slump. I might also grab a graphic novel or a short novella. Just anything I can get through in a day or two is great for that quick sense of accomplishment.
Switching format helped me get out of my slump! I had a stack of TBR and it was too intimidating. I ended up just finding the first semi-interesting audiobook on Libby and I tore through it! Love your rec list!
Thank you for amazing recommendations, I love how you did not put the name of the books in the video captions and instead creatively described them, it kept me guessing :)
The bone witch trilogy is a FANTASTIC series that rekindled my love for reading and I think about it probably too much!! I recommend it to anyone who shows a sliver of interest XD
This was so helpful!!! I'm so glad that you read a lot of different types of books because it's hard to find creators that do that! I added a lot of these books to my tbr list!
I loved the approach to the advice you had. It was the quick and dirty but not without a healthy dose of introspection. Just what the doc ordered during a slump! I've been avoiding reading the ending of the book I'm in literally for months I think bc I'm scared to finish it without the next one IN HAND. I cannot take another cliffhanger.
Returning to my childhood obsession of Warriors is unironically one of my favorite ways to get out of a reading slump. I also just really needed this right now because I've been in the longest slump of my life and nothing, even Warriors, has managed to get me out of it, so I will 100% be using this advice
thanks for this queen cause finals season got me in a massive slump and i decided to go the ya mystery route. got the whole truly devious series from the library yesterday, i think it's working
IT'S THE SAME ONE MYSTERY FOR THE WHOLE 5 BOOKS????? OH HELL NO i ain't reading all that. the characters were insufferable the plot was weirdly paced but it DID cure my slump. off to read jade city now
I did start War & Peace cause I wanted to be one of the persons who has read War & Peace, but wound up finding it very rewarding. Sure, there’s rambling and I skipped some pages here and there because I wanted to get back to the story, but it’s not such an unapproachable book as the length might suggest. Also, the chapters tend to be quite short and if you read one a day you can finish it in a year 😊 Also, just recently read the All of Us Villains duology and really liked it
The Love Hypothesis ❤ was the book that got me out of a reading slump after reading War and Peace! Other books I recommend are Beach Read by Emily Henry, the Neapolitan novels by Elena Ferrante, Evidences of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Deal by Elle Kennedy and Twisted Love 😂. If you want my unhinged recommendation: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
Sarah Dessen books honestly got me into reading in high school and they bring me back every time. Liane Moriarty books are also a great go to- suspenseful mysteries with a great background setting that keep it interesting
I literally needed this video like 7 years ago. I was a reader through and through until I had kids. From that point it was a constant battle of me trying to pick some ambitious book to get me excited, and all I would do was fail to get into it and feel guilty. Thanks for the realistic and straightforward tips. ❤
my top 2 tips for breaking a book slump 1. graphic novels! and if you think you don't like graphic novels, you may just not have read the right one... Heartstopper particularly broke my slump. I read all of them in a single weekend. 2. Re-read! freaking read harry potter (forget for a second how much you hate jk rowling), literally read childhood faves (Ella Enchanted still gets me every time). My biggest go-to is trashy romance, but when that doesn't work, I go for one of the above solutions
I think I developed trama from my elders forcing me to read, to a point where I hate reading. Now I am slowly trying to get back in to it but, it really difficult.
the way you showing up on my tiktok fyp was one of the reasons i finally got out of the reading slump i was in for the majority of high school and college and another reason was i got tired of waiting for the new season of bridgerton so i was like i’ll read the books and now i just…keep reading them
oooh i’d really love some recommendations for ✨gossipy-twitter thread-tiktok rabbit hole-tea✨ books and ya mystery novels :) i’m coming out of a slump since my grandma passed in march and the way you worded these categories made me want to binge read again 💖
fighting my way thru the “getting back into reading as an adult” reading slump and it’s been a STRUGGLE, this video couldn’t have come at a better time 🙏
As always supreme wit and delivery. A potential video idea that I would personally love is you recommending fiction books you’ve enjoyed that have powerful messages and are thought provoking. I feel like you have great perspective and views.
This is How You Lose the Time War was one of my best reads this year! I find short books to be helpful especially because I read a lot of longer fantasy books. I would suggest the Binti series by Nnedi Okorafor. It's also short. Scifi but very easy to follow that also got me out of a reading slump before. All of Us Villains sounds good. Will try reading it!
Diary of a wimpy kid unironically got me through a huge reading slump at the age of 23
no this is so real LOL it is a canon event i can't interfere
Honestly 😂 i read one of them to the children at my work and i was laughing the most
So real, I’m 22 😅
Omg I've done the same thing 😂
same with me at 20! i literally read the entire franchise & was no longer in a slump
"Am I... illiterate?" So real
HECK YEAH to re-reading a book you’ve already read like it’s the first time because your memory is garbage 🎉
my fave reading slump technique is to go to the library & check out about 10 books with reckless abandon based solely on the vibes of the front cover (and maybe a quick skim of the first couple pages) and then DNF liberally as soon as I realize I'm not feeling it. it works great to get rid of that feeling of worrying about whether you'll like the book, and with 10 different picks there's usually at least a couple gems in there!! i've found a couple all-time favorite books in the world w this method actually haha
Brilliant…will take a stab at this tomorrow. In a terrible slump.
omg this is brilliant. Just the other day I was screaming like a banshee because the library here sorts books by author and not genre. The old one had genre and within genre sorted by author but now there are text books about weird 1800 politics next to smutty romance...
But!!
If I just randomly do your method, I might find some unexpected gems.
I'm gonna try this tomorrow!
oh em gee i do this all the time !! its such a good techniqueee
ooh that's such a good idea! Takes all of the pressure off about having spent money on something you aren't enjoying
ahhh this is a genius idea!!! 🤩👏🏻
Fanfiction got me through the entire pandemic and I feel no shame.

It's often hard to be proud of such an achievement when influencers are out here reading 10x as much. Thank you for reminding us
24 books is absolutely amazing!
I read 4 books this year and 2 of them were for a college class 😂my reading slump has been here for a long time
@@chloejulianna_ i can totally understand that!! I didn't read a single book for my own pleasure for like 3 full years. Hopefully you'll find your way out of it eventually☺️
24 books is amazing! That's 2 books a month!!
For me, sometimes doing rereads reactivates the reading bug lol.
i got this recently!!! it looks really good can confirm very interesting
@@newlynova I hope you love it!
I listened to this one as an audiobook and I think it would have worked better as a physical book.
Haven't even pressed play yet but I know with full certainty that this will be the best half hour of my week 💛

I just got back into reading this year and had my very first reading slump spanning the whole month of November up to this point. I really needed this.
20 days is not so bad !
@@berenicethegirlRight! I normally hit a slump in the summer and then read in January🤣🤣 So bad
check and mate literally one of my favourite things i have read this year. its cozy and cute and comforting and i read it when it came out and i already want to read it again. just good vibes for SAD season
this is how you lose the time war is a great recommendation, it got me out of my most recent reading slump. it’s perfect for girlies who have grown weary from the acotar-ification of genre fiction and are also clinically depressed
I've read 15, so I feel good if I take a break to play a video game or something!
nice! What were your favs?
These are the books I gave at least 4.5:
- Tress of the Emerald Sea (Brandon Sanderson)
- The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches (Sangu Mandanna)
- Mistborn 1st Trilogy (Brandon Sanderson)
- Divine Rivals (Rebecca Ross)
- The House in the Cerulean Sea (TJ Klune)
Most definitely a fantasy individual 😅
Tips for getting out of a reading slump:
Children's novels are more than just "Narnia" (though you could read that, too)
It's more than just history and memoirs, I promise
When I consume large amounts of this kind of content, I'm in a constant reading slump and can only digest audiobooks at best (and only while I'm doing something else) because reading itself seems like an impossible task 😅
I'll definitely check out the Truly Devious series!
I feel most of us aren’t here cause we’re in a reading slump- more just that we’re lifeless consumers who will follow ur content loyally to the edges of the earth
[edit: this video was actually so comfy tho🥹 I’ll comeback again when I need this]
This is my sign to read the cruel prince that been siting on my shelf for literal months, thank you lexi
Also, I've only recently found your channel and am already obsessed with it and wish we were friends ✌🏻
thank you thank you thank you for not recommending only mysteries, which is apparently "getting out of reading slumps 101" for everybody but autistic people like me, who guess the entire plot on page 10 lol I actually have already being doing what you suggested (re-reading a book for nostalgia reasons) and it's working!!!!! so glad this video validated me
“Yet Us Descend” is an amazing book! I’m so glad you are consuming it (:❤
A little thing that helps me is to actively engage with the book I want to read (but heads up, this absolutely won’t work with everyone).
Love when you post 😭 you’re so funny and relatable ❤️
I got back into reading last year so I’ve been actively working to avoid a slump. But I also know this is a bad time of year for me on a number levels. So when I hit a wall early this month, I was disappointed. But I took a step back - returned my library books and cancelled my holds. I tried a shorter book but it didn’t grab me. So I DNFd and gave it some time until I felt like reading something. And I tried again with the Wayward Children series this week and I’m on book four. I think it’s important to take care of yourself and like you were saying - what and if you’re reading doesn’t mean anything about you as a person and your worth.
just started watching, just wanted to comment that i love this sweater 1:00 it's so pretty
the way you talk (and i mean this as the highest form of praise) reminds me a lot of lizzy from the lizzy bennet diaries youtube series
I love your earrings! I am currently reading Check & Mate to try to break my reading slump while finishing the book that started it 😅
I would actually love to hear your thoughts on the Ali Hazelwood's books you've read 😍 They are the perfect dose of serotonin and dopamine that my brain needs sometimes to get out of a reading slump, along with a good reread of a Mariana Zapata slow burn novel 😂
Heck. Yes! Mariana Zapata is one of my go to’s for slump recovery.
@mousegrey6747 no other books have given me the same rush that those last 40 pages of a good slow burn MZ classic!
Love Mariana Zapata!
I’m adding this video to my reading journal. I could just take notes, but the energy you bring to it makes it so much better than just the advice.
The intro was the most beautiful and relatable thing I’ve literally ever seen let’s be honest 🖐🏼 i love her voice so much too 😭
Bro i just finished crooked kingdom a few days ago and I haven't been on a reading high this much in so long i started reading another book like immediately it's been so long it feels like coming home. The yearlong reading slump has been officially beaten. Like i was reading the whole time but i am READING. now
Edit: actually you're so real for putting raybearer here it actually is the series that got me to read again at all after years
i really recommend reading a nonfiction book about a subject you are passionate about (other than reading) that's how i got out of a really big reading slump
A great recc for a cool format book is Love, Rosie. Beautiful romance and the whole book is just emails and texts written to different people :))
Thank you so much for your words on addressing why reading slumps happen but also just the kind reminder to read what you like. I cannot tell you how much time I've wasted beating myself up because I couldn't get through something "of quality" instead of just reading for the fun of it. So thank you
I really need to write notes during these videos. You give such good book recs and I want most of them for Christmas
I’ve watched a lot of “how to break a reading slump” videos and this is by far the best!! The advice of being honest with yourself about what you actually enjoy and going back to your roots is so important. Thank you! You’ve earned a new subscriber :)
I’ve been in a year long reading slump after a really bad depressive episode and in the past couple weeks i’ve finally felt ready and determined to get back into reading ❤️
the three i've found work for me in some way or the other each time is:
a. re-reading my favourites: i'm talking i-can-quote-this-book-back-to-you levels of re-reading. as an anxiety-haver, something about knowing exactly what's coming next but also knowing you LIKED it when you read it first is a winning combination to get out of a slump (six of crows duology is 100% my go-to for this)
b. trashy romance: 100% true. will i want this to live on my goodreads as a reminder i read this and truly enjoyed it at some point? no. will i still do it knowing its effective? yes. bridgerton i'm looking at you.
c. celeste ng. don't ask me. that's a solution. whatever she writes i am unable to NOT gobble up she's fantastic.
this was such a good video lexi! it's been a while since i've been a "reader" re: transitioning into adulthood saying you love reading but literally never read, and some of these recommendations really made me want to get back!
It was so relieving to finish a book in under a year 😭
And since then I've read all manner of things but the key really is just reading whatever you want and not holding yourself to some standard
My Kindle shows me my reading streak for the number of days in a row I've read which has been a big reason why I've managed to read everyday.
This reading slump got me feeling like my reading phase has gone now and I'm just going to be another depressed adult 😭😭😭🫠🫠
Just found your channel but it is getting me out a reading slump and it makes me sooo happy!
I didn’t read a full book in like 2 months and then picked up the hunger games again and flew through all 3 in 3 days
im gonna try to get my family back into reading :) !!!! im so excited for you to change all of our lives and have us appreciate literature more !!!
This made me feel better about rereading books all the time, sometimes within the same year xD
Thank you for amazing recommendations, I love how you did not put the name of the books in the video captions and instead creatively described them, it kept me guessing :)
Really appreciate your words on not worrying about how many books you read
The only youtuber who vids i watch without skipping ❤❤
Returning to my childhood obsession of Warriors is unironically one of my favorite ways to get out of a reading slump.
I also just really needed this right now because I've been in the longest slump of my life and nothing, even Warriors, has managed to get me out of it, so I will 100% be using this advice
Option #3 for clicking on this video: You love Lexi’s videos and will watch any video she puts out.
Thanks for reminding us that we’re humans ❤️
thanks for this queen cause finals season got me in a massive slump and i decided to go the ya mystery route. got the whole truly devious series from the library yesterday, i think it's working
IT'S THE SAME ONE MYSTERY FOR THE WHOLE 5 BOOKS????? OH HELL NO i ain't reading all that. the characters were insufferable the plot was weirdly paced but it DID cure my slump. off to read jade city now
You deserve to be the next Jack Edwards of BookTube. Great content! Thanks!
I did start War & Peace cause I wanted to be one of the persons who has read War & Peace, but wound up finding it very rewarding. Sure, there’s rambling and I skipped some pages here and there because I wanted to get back to the story, but it’s not such an unapproachable book as the length might suggest. Also, the chapters tend to be quite short and if you read one a day you can finish it in a year 😊
Also, just recently read the All of Us Villains duology and really liked it
oh the fit is soo good here
The Veronica Speedwell series definitely got me out of my slump earlier this year! As well as anything Emily Henry because, well, I love Love.
Love this series
The Love Hypothesis ❤ was the book that got me out of a reading slump after reading War and Peace! Other books I recommend are Beach Read by Emily Henry, the Neapolitan novels by Elena Ferrante, Evidences of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Deal by Elle Kennedy and Twisted Love 😂. If you want my unhinged recommendation: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
What a good friken video and the ending note on just doing what you want regardless of stigma was *chef's kiss*
my top 2 tips for breaking a book slump
1. graphic novels! and if you think you don't like graphic novels, you may just not have read the right one...
Now I am slowly trying to get back in to it but, it really difficult.
the way you showing up on my tiktok fyp was one of the reasons i finally got out of the reading slump i was in for the majority of high school and college
and another reason was i got tired of waiting for the new season of bridgerton so i was like i’ll read the books and now i just…keep reading them
Justice for my favorite high fantasy hero Cadmium Phosphorus, loved him in "A court of sword and *insert word that is in Welsh for some reason*"
LMFAO underrated comment
oooh i’d really love some recommendations for ✨gossipy-twitter thread-tiktok rabbit hole-tea✨ books and ya mystery novels :) i’m coming out of a slump since my grandma passed in march and the way you worded these categories made me want to binge read again 💖
fighting my way thru the “getting back into reading as an adult” reading slump and it’s been a STRUGGLE, this video couldn’t have come at a better time 🙏
As always supreme wit and delivery. A potential video idea that I would personally love is you recommending fiction books you’ve enjoyed that have powerful messages and are thought provoking. I feel like you have great perspective and views.
i love you! that’s all i want to say after watching this video!!! i truly needed to hear all you said !!
“Piranesi” by Susanna Clarke got me out of an 11 year reading slump. It gets better, friends. 🙏
