- Illustrator Tutorial: Low Poly Portrait! This is sort of a remake of my Photoshop low poly portrait tutorial, but for Illustrator. I realized that it would be a lot better to do this type of effect in Adobe Illustrator, since it is vector based. I hope you like the tutorial! Leave a comment if you have any questions!

There's one thing I forgot to mention: You can press cmd/ctrl y to get an outline preview. This can make it easier to locate gaps and other things.
yes, this vid is helpful. You explained it well, even begginer like me can follow. You're a good teacher 😊 wish u make another vid tuts. Thank you!
This is the best video teaching how to make poly I've found so far. Even though this video was created a long time ago, it still contains and resolve every essential / frustrating detail that beginners (like me) may find. Thanks so much for making this video!!
Man, you don't know how grateful I am right now!
TNice tutorials is THE most helpful tutorial on RUclips imo. I am starting production in Hardstyle, and I find soft soft really useful
This will hopefully be a useful tip for anyone interested:
If the lines you drew are not recognised as triangles by the illustrator i.e. it just sees them as a continuous line rather than separate triangles, Select the whole thing and then use the Shape Builder Tool (Shift+M) and click on every triangle separately. This will unify the lines into shapes.
thank you SOOO MUCH!
Thanks!
Thanks love, you're a legend!
Thank you it's very nice to hear that x
yes true..
Hi- you should suggest to LOCK the portrait layer while working on it.
A lot of tutorials that focus on any kind of visual media tend to have terrible sound quality and it makes the tutorial insufferable, but yours isn't too bad so thanks for that.
eventually it all snapped into place and I started learning how to add all the effects, titles, motion text. It was pretty cool to see my
effortless, yet stunning, transforming and reflecting is my favorite part
TNice tutorials is much more simple than I thought with you explaining it. Currently half way through and I feel like I know everytNice tutorialng already lmao
It's 2020 and your vid is still helping... Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
man i used to LOVE watching theese tutorials as a teenager doing stuff for fun on my crappy desktop pc.
Now I'm studing Graphic design and I'm hating most of it...
*sob*
+Sean Brogan As someone in the same boat. Just grind through it. It is meant to be your passion and you'll become a better person and designer at the end of it. You've gotta be able to handle those shitty situations dude, best of luck.
Thanks Man. Much appreciated
Same XD
Angelo García why do you hate it? I wanne study graphic design xd
For me, my classes were to slow and most of the information I could get from RUclips videos or from Adobe's tutorials. To get a paying job is hell. I've had to work for free so many times because without my knowledge my mom volunteered me to do a bunch of her friend's garbage events.
No one appreciates the work that's put into actually making something so they'll constantly ask for free shit. When you give them real world prices they flip shit and act as if you've offended them personally.
I would recommend studying something else and getting Graphic design as a minor. A certificate doesn't mean anything. Employers look at portfolios mostly. I have a job at an ad agency becase I was recommended. No one cared where or what I studied but they liked my stuff and how I worked.
Because of you, my previous work that take for like 5 hrs has reduce for like 4 hrs now. THANK YOU
how about from 5 hours to 2hours ?
Hey. Seriously. Thank you. I just downloaded soft and I can CLEARLY see why your vid was recomnded. You're an aweso intro into
3:18 i did what you said and when i do for eye the pervious mask disappear
one of the best tutorials for this technique thumbs up
you record with hardware outside of the program. Great tutorial btw it was very detailed but still just right for beginners.
Man I missed this kind of tutorials lol. Great work here, thanks!!!
I really appreciate you asking me to learn a lot of special things from you When I started to learn
click on the magnet, and from there you can adjust how the tracks snap onto the grid. if you want it to be each 1/4 of a bar, click "line"
Are you using the Producer version, if so are all the effects and tutorial you use in the video included as standard with the Producer
I just want to ask .Can you see the whole or the last one you've made or the Nice tutorialstory in the soft soft(20)and the softs that you have done
route, and connect it to my computer system, will it be as simple as creating one track and play a composition through it, recording it, then
purchased soft soft was because there are so many resources and remake templates out there to help understand how people have
like you add your own sample to the soft roll and when you play it it always plays longer than what is shown in the soft roll and
Thank you very much for this, I enjoyed learning how this very cool look is created. It was more than generous of you to take the time and energy to share so much with your audience. I hope you will create a separate video explaining how corrections can be made for those starting out, and that you will just slow down the speed with which you illustrate your points just a bit. Thank you again very much!
when you’re in the channel rack, click on gms to open up the gms nu, in the light blue screen on the top left look where it says
When I was completely finished it looked exactly as expected, except for between each individual triangle I can see thin lines that appear to be transparent. What did I do wrong?
BROTHER, YOU ARE THE BEST!!! You oooh really helped me!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!This is cool, well done!
how do you make it so that when you have multiple softs in your soft roll; you arent interfereing with another soft like accidentally
you are not like the others who puts link filled with adds, so u deserve to be subscribed..... thanks for the plugin and all the best for future
How did the stroke go?it was there before the pathfinder!!
I didn't know this video existed! Thanks bro! Really grateful.
I am having problem creating outlines of nose eyes keeping other outlines undisturbed .i so wanna try this please help me.

Hey man thanks a lot. I was really overwheld and confused but now it all makes sense. Thank you.
hello I have a problem
when I save a low poly portrait as a jpeg there are visible lines between the polygons. what should I do to remove this ?
Save it as a png for the best image quality
Attowatt he probably solved it in 4 years
Nice tutorial Michael,
Love the video. Can you do this in procreate?
How did you get the grid to show over the background image please?
I downloaded the program but everytNice tutorialng still says trial version on it??
thanks a lot, I really wanted to try to work at it to make it like that and now I knew how can I work on it with your tutorial.
I just subscribed and have not had the full chance to check for Ai - Illustrator only tutorials. Do you have videos that only pander to the Illustrator program? Appreciate your help on this one. Thank you!
i love when he tests it out for us
You can also create low poly art in Adobe Photoshop but, what is the difference. I'm planning to make a logo for my future clothing brand and I want to use the right program for it. Any suggestions?
when i try to make the triangles and click on an anchor it gets deleted. Can i pls get some help
Do you have solution
You catch on really fast, it seems complex but once you learn the basics it pretty much branches into experintation
would it work with squares insted of triangles for a pixel look?
TNice tutorials was an amazing video! you really Nice tutorialt all the key points for the basics without ever over complicating anytNice tutorialng. A hard job and you did
Your video is very helpful. I downloaded it successfully. Thank you!
If you use smart guides you don't even need the grid, do you?
That was an amazing video and I feel like I can actually get started using soft soft. Thank you so much!
Great tutorial, links and program worked fine for
If there's a gap that I've missed earlier on, could I just use the direct selection tool to move the anchor point? Another question is, is the grid necessary? Thanks for the insightful video!
Good video thank you , updated visual studio and everything worked. I'm really glad I found a working crack
I want to know how to record and master my own ?
How did you get the effects chain on the left side of the setuper?
Is there any way to pick average color over a certain space with the eyedropper?
Thank you for a great tutorialI'm using CS3 and cannot get the snap to grid to work. Any suggestions whats wrong?
Nice. Thanks a lot actually. It worked, you explained it well.
OK ! I make full outline of an image but whenever i make new triangle it invisibles the last triangle i made unlike yours everything seems to be connected and visible. i have disabled any option in ai or just doing it wrong way.
answer plz?
How do you manage to not delete the anchor point when clicking with path tool tool times on it? Thank you :)
How to change your change your channel rack from Dub back to the original channel rack you have
I am not getting the red line live feedback like you are getting when you move your mouse. How do i enable that?
Brandony man pls i need to know how can I restore the snare and the hat in the channel rack, I accidentally deleted them.
ITS WORKING! nice job dude
It's a very detailed tutorial. Thank you very much for this. It got easier for me to do low poly vectors -thumbs up-
is there any way i can get around having to connect the pen line back to where it started?
Good tutorial! But hey! once I saw that someone could use the eyedropper with gradient to make the effect a little more real, do you know, (or somebody else knows) how to do this? You are so good explaining!! :D
I’m trying to draw smaller tringales with the pen tool, but it won’t let me make them small. The pen tool just chooses the path for me in a way. Is there a way I can change the settings or something to make it stop choosing for me?
When you are using the pen tool, you see a red line that is following your mouse, i don' t have that, how to put that on?
So the lines you draw automatically outline whatever you want by itself? Like for example the eyebrow? Like anyone can do this its just connections the points am I correct or are you actually having to draw straight lines. I ask because I want to draw people but I have no skill what so ever 😩
Idk how to create the lines with the plume tool, I have to press V and P each time I want to connect a new diferent shape
hey dude, your video is really helpful, but i have a question: i wear glasses and im wondering how do i remove the backround that can be seen trough a small part of the glasses. thanks a lot!
how can you make the lines connected at the end because when i finish drawing the lines and start filling the triangles it fill multiple triangle with each-other , another question when i want to draw a line it won't able to draw from specific point idk why!
Is there a way to do somthing like this pen outline in photoshop? after that I would still make the action to add the average effect like the old tut but the markings would be helpfull
when I looked at the list of paths, they weren't triangles. they were all just a collection of seemingly random lines, when you opened your list of paths, everything was automatically separated into perfect triangles, despite the fact that you drew your lines as a collection of disconnected lines. what did I do wrong?
Edit: nevermind I missed the part where you said to hit the divide button in the pathfinder
How do I make the Stroke go away once I have colored all the polygons
Aweso tutorial bro! I like how you gets down to bus
what kind of pen you used because i cant connect it with other lines....
How do you get your pen tool to do straight lines when clicking and dragging? When I try that, it does all curves. So I did it with click and not drag, then whenever i go back after doing the outer path, when i try to make triangles it deletes all the points i have made as i click them. how do you get it to just keep drawing lines?
Do smaller clicks and don't move your mouse during click, it'll add direction vector that's why you're getting curves.
As for me, everything is simple and clear. Thank you
do more of this!! this is amazing
will be a fantastic journey!
Cant we use live paint instead of pathfinder
very very gooood, thaaankss maan✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
How did you remove the blue lines while at the same time giving the polygon the color ?
When you use the eyedropper tool, it will select the colour AND the stroke of that object. Because he was sampling from an image that didn't have a stroke, it could only get the colour. That's why the blue stroke removed at the same time. Hope this helped
You uploaded this just in time when I was just starting to learn about it!
Hey, good video. For future videos i would recommend a editing s
nice tutorial! Do you fill the shapes with solid color?
Wow! This is so useful- needed it for a new project. Thanks!
Wow🔥 Thank You so much for the amazing tips.🥰
Wonderful, perfect, clear tutorial! Thanks a lot, maestro. You just saved my life :D
