I use Illustrator too. Traced or no traced, looks good. People don't realise that making traced stuff look proper is not easy. Reason for me not tracing in the first place. Never managed to make it look good.
I've been trying to make the jump from illustrating in photoshop to using illustrator for logos and stuff and I've never seen someone just paint in illustrator like that, that's amazing
because the brush creates tons of vector points making the data in the file bigger if your making a graphic for web, optimization is essential and you can get probably a tenth or less data making the shapes with a pen tool then you would with a brush.
@@fivemeomedia true. Theres been times where ive done that and was like well shit I could of just used the pen tool. I actually tested this out while drawing the wendys logo the pen tool ia much faster for me. So yeah idk what I'm talk about ur right.
Pretty sure if the OP was doing in his own leisure time he d draw from scratch, but this is within a time frame, to deliver results within a fixed time frame. Of course if he was able to draw from scratch and still achieve such results, fantastic. But honestly, as much as process matter, he got it done. Its a cartoon art and he delivered it.
I love all the people in the comments saying "oh they're just tracing I could do that." I'll believe it when I see it. Any novice tracing an image knows nothing of lineweights, what to make a line and what not to, how to do hatching, or a million other things only an artist knows. If you people traced an image it'd look no where near as clean as this.
Hey you can name a million "art terms" and I'm still going to say if you're tracing, you're not an artist! plus this is a vector image(you don't typically see 'hatching' in vector images) and he used not ONE form of hatching in this, cross or otherwise!
Well he pretty learned drawing in his entire life so the image speaks for itself. Not impossible but takes years to master if you invest your time on it

Even the masters used La Caja Obscura to trace....to me the difficult part is the shading....having an idea what colors to use....the stroke, the linework, the expression, the filters, achieving what you even had in mind and not fucking it up

Tracing is not bad. If they wanted that picture just cartooned, it makes sense to trace. Why waste time and energy trying to perfectly replicate the original image? 🙄

Im using wacom intuos s, pressure sensitivity is working in other softwares like Paint Tool Sai but in illustrator is not working... i tried to download latest drivers etc and still when Im creating my caligharphic brush. It depends on the style you're going for! If you wanted to make something more cartoonish in nature, such as making the proportions disproportionate, then yes, it would be better to draw by reference. By tracing, it still maintains accurate proportions, and it's the cell shading and lining that makes it look cartoonish, yet still realistic.
most artists trace when they want to do likenesses or realism, it's easier/faster and is still quality work, it's not cheating in any way and isn't lesser than hand drawn pieces unless they try to pass it off as entirely free-handed or if it is traced off of someone else's work

110% AGREED! The fact that ppl do this often and still call it art and make profit off of it is what destroys the value of art and the community. It's a cheap way to make a quick buck and creates the illusion of art. Anyone can trace an image. ANYONE!
You’ve probably done it already, but for future reference, tho this sounds bad, if you google image a minimalist image of someone with braids and then copy their shapes it saves a lot of time, I did it all the time at A level and tbh it was such a saviour when I had a big project to do

Andrei Dante free... do it yourself it’s super easy. He just traces pictures and has a basic understanding for shadows honestly I’m not downing his work it’s pretty cool, just saying don’t pay someone for traces art

the outline itself can be done by a kid tho. and thats my point. im an artist too but i dont draw OVER an existing picture. i draw it by myself. no jealous

All you need is an understanding of the rudimentary forms that make up the face and how light is casted

haha same here. I did lil skies who has braids. I used the pen and curvature tool which took me so long...
