    Muzammil came up with a great solution.Replacing electric vehicles from combustion ones will solve a lot of problems of Pakistan lower imports, lower pollution, capacity charges will be widely shared which will eventually lower the cost of electricity production but we cannot ignore the following problems with owning an electrical vehicle :
    1.Low travelling range
    2. Not readily available(charging needs time, while combustion vehicles are always ready to use)
    3. In extreme warm weather batteries will under perform.
    4. Lack of charging stations.
    5. Lack of technicians to work on such vehicles.
    6.Lack of locally made spare parts which will eventually increase imports while sourcing these parts.

      Basically, charging infrastructure is the issue for which only government can take initiative like it happened in rest of the world. Till then, we can safely use them in cities. You usually need charging stations for intercity travelling. There are people who owned EVs for 3~4 years and never visit any charging station in city driving.
      Technicians and parts will be available only when any company will launch local assembled EV. Right now, the only EV that will come as CKD is Seres 3.

    The main problem in Pakistan is that there is no transmission capacity. Transmission capacity is less than production - Transmission capacity is only 22000 MW ---> There is no electricity in many places and there is extreme load-shedding in some places in Pakistan. There was no planning done when these IPPs were set up by the previous governments. I believe they received kickbacks and commissions on this. Even if we run all power plants, this electricity will be wasted as it will not be utilized.

      Yeah, you are very right. I think we can increase a lot of our electricity consumption by just giving it to more people and decreasing load shedding. I live in south Punjab, and in our city, the current daily load sheading is around 4 to 8 hours. So, if we eliminate load shedding and provide electricity to remote areas by upgrading our transmission infrastructure, we can pretty much solve the capacity payment issue. Although I like Muzamil's idea of electric cars and bikes, I think it takes more time than he anticipated. Of course, in order to effectively execute this shift, we can start working today, and it will be very beneficial to us.

    My counter to your discussion is why would there be a positive climate change if you are using electric cars while producing energy from coal powered or fuel burning electricity generation plants.
    It's going to be even worst in that case since in case of ICE vehicles fuel energy is converted into mechanical energy and there is only one stage of conversion. While in case of an EV first you burn fuel to generate electricity, feed them through grid and charge your vehicles which will eventually be converted into mechanical energy. Far more losses, meaning to cover the same milage you will be adding more pollution to the environment.
    Moreover, since our aim is to increase consumption from fuel powered grid generation so we can not justify the above while saying that we will charge our EVs from renewable energy.

    • @quonxinquonyi8570

      Oil is still cheap if you compare the production cost of battery with oil….electric vehicles look feasibly good coz western govts have given an artificial subsidy on it to increase its production and sales but in long run evs will turn out to be more cost inefficient when fifty percent of fuel based cars will be replaced and when these subsidies will be waned off….moreover you need a whole lot infrastructure from transmission to charging station to power grids if want to implement this ev policy effectively and Pakistani govt for decades have struggled to lay roads and he is asking and expecting these Pakistani ruling elite to come up with an ev policy out of nowhere……..talking sense in Pakistan is an actual nonsense

    • @AwaisFarhad
      @AwaisFarhad 2 месяца назад +1

      ICE vehicles have efficiency of 20-25%. Whereas pakistani power plants running on oil have efficiency of 75-85%. Pakistan's lowest quality plants have efficiency of 60%. Transmission losses are usually less than 10%. So the overall efficiency of the system is increased and thus oil import is decreased. Moreover, in ICE vehicles, you can only use petrol or diesel, whereas in EV govt can use hydro or local coal to generate electricity thus decreasing import bill. SO you have options in how to produce electricity whether imported oil, or local coal, hydro or even solar.
      But the change should start with motorcycles and small city cars, then public transport, and then for personal cars.

    I work as a data analyst in Saudi Arabia. When it comes to statistics, it is worth noting that the current electric stations are generating electricity through the combustion of oil. This increased burning of oil leads to a higher import of oil and a subsequent loss of dollars, contributing to an account deficit. Whether the oil is burned in cars or in electric stations, the overall numbers remain the same. Additionally, it is important to consider that electricity transmission also incurs some loss. To address these challenges, industrialization emerges as the sole solution, as it allows for greater electricity consumption and subsequently creates job opportunities, leading to an increase in GDP. However, it is crucial to recognize the need to transition these oil-based electric stations into atomic power plants in the future. Failure to plan this transition effectively, especially when carried out by a group of retired majors, could result in unfavorable outcomes.

If the push for electric cars persists in the long run then it will return to haunt us in the near future in the form of climate change. I really do like your idea muzzamil one thing i would like to add to this is that we desi people are known for “jugaar” so in my personal opinion if the government of Pakistan can somehow subsidise importing lithium batteries into Pakistan then people or workshops with expert mechanics can convert or restore old cars and make them electric this way the cost of importing a car or assembling a car will be more than just restoring an old mehran for e.g and fitting it with the lithium batteries. I do understand the complications of this and safety however If done the right way will prove to be very beneficial. People in Pakistan already are restoring older cars because buying a new one is extremely expensive. Adding this element of converting your car into an electric car will definitely appeal to the people of Pakistan. My opinion ofc.

    Environment tax on petroleum would be impossible for the government to do, and the biggest beneficiary of petroleum sales is PSO, which is a cash cow for the government with no circular debt problem in that field, compared to the entire electricity field ridden with debt.
    One very practical solution is for government to sell off every power distribution, to different groups of companies so that they compete with each other for the best capitalistic efficiency and they secure their own electricity contracts with the power providers, so the government doesn't have to deal with the circular debt.

    EV's are a good idea, but they're not the fix to this problem. They could solve a small part of it. Why?
    1. Mehran drivers cant afford EV's.The BYD Dolphin is £30,000 in the UK.
    2. Electricity supply is unreliable.
    3. Charging infrastructure is non existent
    4. Pakistan is a massive country, travelling across it in EV's without huge infrastructure is too difficult.
    5. The extreme temperatures we face will impact EV performance
    6. Even in the West EV sales have fallen.
    I think a better solution is hybrid cars. We should start slowly, all rickshaws and bikes within urban spaces need to be electric or hybrid. Otherwise they pay a hefty charge to operate. Do the same for buses and mini vans. Then start on private cars. Also to help this we need to relax import duty on older hybrid cars, let people import Priuses cheap to get the industry started.
    It will have part of the same benefit, but it will also severely reduce air and noise pollution in our cities.

    • @Shakeel_._Ahmed
      @Shakeel_._Ahmed 3 месяца назад +1

      The other thing we need to change is our vehicle intensive culture. We need more buses, more rickshaws and passenger vans, and less cars on the road. Companies should be asked to adapt a "WFH first" culture offering remote working for roles where it is suitable. Lets think ahead of the curve.

    would say that probably the biggest challenge in introducing electric vehicles in pakistan would be establishing the proper parts supply along with widespread charging stations. For the latter, we can start by putting them mainly in high use areas (motorways, major cities) and go on from there, but each would require a substantial amount of dedication and investment

      Ev produces vicious cycle, battery is main component of ev with efficiency still tailing behind combustion engines….but to produce battery and to even operate it , require the such consumption in electricity from national grid that will have disastrous overhead for overly populated country like Pakistan….ev only has one plus point compare to combustion engines is that ,parts replacement will be significantly less in ev because of less carbon emission and less erosion….but ev isn’t a game changer as projected in western media, it will be highly cost inefficient compare to fuel cars….miles per gallon is still an efficient metric than kilometer per kilowatt hour….the later requires high charging time compare to very less tank filling time, the people here aren’t taking into account such factor coz western governments have subsidized ev to increase its production and sales….ev isn’t a game changer coz it still have to follow basic thermodynamics and physics and will create more problems than solutions

    I think we need the market competition in power sector. Everybody should have the freedom of producing and consuming. Govt. should not interfere. They should, rather, come out of those cruel agreements with IPP's.

  • @ahmadmushtaq3151
    @ahmadmushtaq3151 2 месяца назад

    I don't understand how you compared per-kwh price of electricity with per-liter price of petrol. I'm an electrical engineer and i know that even the most energy efficient EVs range only 7-9 km per kwh whereas a fuel-powered car of the same size can reach upto 25km per liter. So, considering the price of Electricity as 100 rupee per unit, running cost ofEVs is slightly higher than petrol cars. I think that's a little miscalculation on your part. Other than that, great video 👍👍👍

    Brother after listing you, i have 2 major obligations
    1- if we are now using less electricity, it means that the IPPs which 80-90 percent runs on some sort of fossils fuels(Imported) will now use less of those products to make electricity.
    So it should make a huge dent on Imports of pakistan
    (Do not forget the reductions of utilization of these products (petrol etc) due to increase in inflation)

    • @abmj5925
      @abmj5925 3 месяца назад

    We cannot fully convert all the vehicles to Electric I think it is impossible but we can introduce them but the thing is that it will need so much investment from companies to invest in charging stations. Moreover capacity charges can be minimized if we export electricity to central Asian countries. Now i can understand why govt was deciding to reduce net monitoring . Solar has gone on a boom in Pakistan as Some people are involved in business and it is also costing us capcity charges so the only solution which I can think of is exporting electricity but again that will have its cost all the infrastructure will have a cost. It is again a spiral . Maanda Phansa han
