Welcome to my Funk Blues Groove guitar lesson. Today I show you how you can play a solid Funk Blues Groove over a jazzy Blues in A. WE'll be using a stripped down Jazz Blues for the chord progression. That makes it a lot more interesting than just the regular Blues chord progression.
You'll learn all the funk blues rhythms in detail. This includes how to play funk scratches on guitar. Of course I'll also show all the funk blues guitar chords in detail.
You can also download the entire Funk Blues Groove TAB from the link in this info box. There's also a Funk Blues backing track (3 tempi), which makes it real fun to play along.
Hope you like my Funk Blues Groove guitar lesson and give this video a thumbs up. Subscribe my channel to never miss a new video.

Great practice tool for a number of concepts! Back in the mid-70's, one of my Jazz band charts referred to something as a "Hi Chink" with the standard snare "x" notation - had no idea what that meant. Finally got the answer from a chat backstage with Grant Geissman as he tried to play the riff and we recognized that the "Hi Chink" notes were just scratches. Guess the scoring guitarist needed to call it something 🎶🎸.
Hehe, yes, sometimes "noises" are hard to describe. 😊
Excellent, Teacher Sandra! I love Funk Blues. Thanks a lot! 🙏
That's was my main influence when I started (and Dire Straits!)
Wow! Now this is historic! When I have heard this? Fifties!! Why not hearing this uptown licks? The marriage age of Boogie and Jazz!
I love Funk and I love Blues - great combination in this lesson 😉
Glad to make you double happy 😊.
Thank you for the great Funk Blues lesson. All us jazz bees have our fingers(wings?) crossed and hope all is well. We are all sending out good vibes and prayers for you! Please feel the Love! 🐝🐝
Indeed I feel the love ❤️
This kind of lesson gets me motivated.
Yay! Stay groovy, my friend 😊
I remember seeing Cornell Dupre in a Toronto, a long, long time ago. He played exactly like this. He had just replaced Jimi Hendrix in King Curtis’s band. His playing was so creative because it was rhythm playing but also very melodic. He did a lot of call and response with King Curtis. Love this lesson a lot. I also love that little theme in the intro to your videos. It announces that you’re here and it’s show time!
Thanks for yojr kind words. I live Cornell Duore and also Hendrix.
Perfect like always
Thank you for your help.
Excellent performance, dear Sandra. Thank you! 🌹
Thank you, Luis! ❤️ I like your virtual rose 🌹 🤗
Great lessons, and I love my KTM motorcycles:-)
Which ones do you have?
Fun-kaaay 😁 Love it 😍
Great funky blues tune 👍🙏😊
Thx S. Really like the groove that funk rhythm generates. got it eventually but not as good as you. ill revisit the the G Benson Affirmation lesson as a follow on. Keep em coming...wonderful resource
Thanks Graeme, also f your donation! ❤️ To get a Funk groove steady is one of the mist difficult tasks for a guitarist. We qzivkly figure out the basic rhythm, but to make it groove is a different thing. Try to get in a meditative state when playing the groove ivee and over again. The calmer you are, ghe better it'll groove 😊
Thanks!
Thanks so nuch for your donation! Glad you like the lesson. Keep grooving 😊
This is great! Thanks so much, Sandra.
You're into (Jazz) Funk? I like Scofield a lot.
Loves me some Blues. I guess I'll have to work on my right hand to make this work, but as you said, it will probably improve my hand and rhythmic abilities. Sounds so cool
Funk is definitely the way to great control of your right hand. It improves the feeling for rhythm and technique all at the same time.
I dig it🎉
You're into Funk, Robert?
Yes Sandra ❤funk jazz neo soul jazz blues etc .. plus everything you teach
Great lesson, Sandra! And a very nice pickguard. Regards from a Vorarlberger in Zurich. 😊
Grüzi in die Schweiz! Mein Bruder hat das Pickguard bemalt 😊.
great performance, nice lesson, big thumbs up 👍🏻
Many thanks!!
Thanks
Thank you! ❤️
😍😍😍

Thank you. Diversity...
Indeed!
New guitar, is the pickguard your design ??
That's my old Fender Teke Delzxe from 2014. Ny brother oainted over the pickguard 😊. I like geckos 🦎
Play that funky music white girl 😄. You have the swag and the funk, lady!!!
Hehe, I know what your did there 😊
Excellent job, Sandra!! Love this “side” of you😁👍! One small comment you made around the E7#9 is so important, and often gets overlooked - regarding the slide down… slide into infinity, while releasing the pressure on the fretboard … your description is very elegant - a great way to explain that little technique! This stuff is where I live, hehe! I’d love to jam with you on this! Also, love the Tele - nice tones🙌. I never noticed the textured detail on the pickguard before… sweet👍😁! Have a great weekend!
It's my lack of proper English vernacular, that makes me choose phrases like "slide into infinity", lol.
Yeah, my brother put quute a lot of acrylic color on that puckguard. And it glows in the dark 😍

So cool! I didn’t know you had a brother, Sandra😁. And, he’s talented too!👍
Oh yes, he studied liberal art at the college. He lives with our Dad in Clovis, NM, right next to the recording studio where Peggy Lee was recorded.

Cool👍😁… you should go visit, (and record😉)!
I don't believe there's a "funk secret", the title is kinda' clickbait. The main thing about funk is the right hand, left hand muting and timing. My first paying job was a funk/R&B/soul band. I listened to a lot of different players, but the one who was most important was Jimmy Nolan, and the other guitar players in the JBs. Most of what I needed to make that gig was heard on James Brown recordings.
Unfortunately these days you only get views with certain titles. But the "swcret" in this case is, not to use all the strings at once, but only always pkay 2 strings at once.
I like your playing and your lessons but when you say Jimmy does this I think of page I have always that hendrix is way over rated as a guitarist and person
Maybe as a person, definitely not as a guitarist 😊
