I looove Amy, but I also loved viola. I’m glad they used the roses like viola’s orb. Miss the claws though. Still love Amy.
Also worth noting a very small but very fun detail, Viola’s 2P outfit, on her claws are different moon phases.

Lots of cool trivia in this one! Amy is a character that has typically escaped my notice (even as a longtime Soulcalibur fan) so this was some illuminating analysis. 10/10 work sir

I think for if you decide to do a Halloween episode, you should do either Spinal or Sabrewulf from Killer Instinct. Though there might be some other ideas for characters for Halloween. 🎃

I hope that, if Soul Calibur 7 gets made, and Amy is a playable character in it, that she finally receives a secondary outfit that isn’t in any way tweaking her primary outfit.

"hot topic werewolf voiced by matthew mercer" lmao. good vid! im so happy im not the only one who thinks her sc3 outfit is much too revealing lol. i agree with everything you said. i love that amys sc6 outfit calls back to her sc3 and sc6 outfits. i remember the second i saw the roses on her shawl in raphaels soul chronicle i became the leonardo dicaprio pointing meme because i instantly saw the viola connection.
personally my favorite outfit is violas 2p but minus sc3, i love all her outfits. i know you dont rate concept arts but im curious which of amys and violas unused outfits you like the best? for amy i really like the sc6 unused purple dress with the long coat tail because it feels like what her sc3 outfit SHOULD have been. and for viola, i cant get over how beautiful her unused blue hipskirt outfit is
Thank you! I agree with you on both of those. Viola’s blue outfit reminds me of something Zafina from Tekken might wear. And the rose petals around the ankles from that purple dress are a neat idea. I’d like to make a video at some point going over Soulcalibur’s concept art, because there’s some really interesting stuff.
@@Silvershire oh yeah i could totally see zafina wearing that dress too. i was so sad that we never got zafina things with the tekken outfits in 5 bc i would have put them on viola in a heartbeat.
i would LOVE to see what you have to say about the unused art because its so fun to go back and look at. for some characters you can even tell when they referenced unused outfits while making new ones
One of my favorite examples of that is Nightmare’s Soulcalibur II 2P; the bottom half is taken from an earlier concept where he wore a set of slim silver-and-gold armor.
@@Silvershire i havent looked too extensively at nms concept arts but thats really cool, his sc2 2p is my favorite of his outfits so they clearly made a good call revisiting it. one example i really like that feels more like an easter egg than everything is how they reused one of talims unused sc3 concepts to be talims mom in sc6. also, elements of raphael and violas unused sc5 outfits can be seen in the final products for their sc6 outfits
I prefer Viola. Her fighting style was unique and I loved her overall aesthetic more too. Her and Z.W.E.I were the only good things to come from the dumpster fire that is Soul Calibur 5. Amy is just an Echo Fighter of Raphael. I hope Viola and Z.W.E.I make a comeback if and when there’s a Soul Calibur 7
Honestly it’s sad how Soul 5 was handled because graphics & gameplay & soundtrack we’re all pretty solid but that game is the black sheep of the Soul series for a reason.
I’m just hoping there’s a Soulcalibur VII to begin with…

Her regular aesthetic is basically Amy's with a minimal addition(a hood to make her little red riding hood to ZWEI's big bad wolf). Her 2nd outfit aesthetic is neat and different though.

SC5 had plenty of flaws, but the gameplay itself was good. The best thing to come from it by far was Patroklos moveset, to this day potentially the most fun to play in all of Soul Calibur.

Echo Fighters are straight copies(except Ken), and clones are characters that share most of their movesets.
This is just not the case for Amy. She shares maybe 10-15% of her moves with Raphael. And Viola's moveset is absolutely riddled with Amy moves(I'd guess about half to 2/3 are Amy moves honestly), and not one of them is a Raphael move.
I personally would much rather they stick with Amy, she's more fun to play than Viola on a casual level, and Viola was absolutely hated in competitive play.
I'd be fine with both being in, or Viola with Amy's moveset(maybe she could have both, like how Pyrrha had Pyrrha Omega?).
Amy's style is gorgeous, and even though she has an overall elegant look I love the edgy elements ( Like fishnets, spiderwebs, skulls, ect. ). I do agree that if she's supposed to be a teen in Soul calibur 3 then her outfit is really awkward ( I hate Talim's costume in Soul calibur 6 for that exact reason. ). I actually love her alt color in Soul calibur 3, I find it strikingly beautiful ! Thank you for taking my Sophitia request, looking forward to that video 😊

Amy's definitely one of my favorite characters in the series but one look at my channel and it wouldn't be surprising lol. But yeah, her fashion sense being centered in Gothic Lolita (more-so her SCVI design coming the lcosest to it), it was hard for me not to love it.
SC3 - I used to really like this outfit but when I look back at it in retrsopect as an adult (I was 13 when SC3 came out), I definitely think it looks a tad inappropriate considering her age. I do think she's supposed to be 14-15 because she just looks very young like Talim. I can't bring myself to dislike the look because there are so many nice elements of it that I like but if I were to tweak it, I'd just give her a shrug-like shawl so it didn't look as revealing. Lore-wise, I feel like maybe it was Amy's idea that she wanted to look more "mature" and not a "peasant child anymore and since the game is set in the late 1500s, there was no concept of teenhood. Doesn't make the outfit any less unnerving but it's the best explanation I got. Overall, it's a fine enough standalone outfit with a lovely purple color palette.
I also like the 2P white/black color as well, love the dark hair and makeup
And I agree with the arcade outfit, it's not a bad look but no where near as cool looking as her original outfit and the hair just doesn't look that great.
SC4 - I do like the outfit and did see it as a nice follow up from Soul Calibur 3. The fur-line adornment was such a nice touch and I always liked how the outfit looked fancy but not too restricting (for Soul Calibur standards lol). However I must admit that I think the outfit looks a lot better in the concept art than it does in the 3D model, the frilled skirt looks a bit weird in 3D compared to the official Kawano artwork but aside from that, a pretty memorable outfit. The only downside about it is mostly fashion note related as I remember people thinking that this look was a "Gothic Lolita" look when in reality, it's much too short to be considered that (Lolita fashion being about modesty) so it does give off of a not so great first impression of the Elegant Gothic Lolita style but if you ignore that and just see it as simply influenced by it but not actually it, it's a pretty nice standalone outfit.
I agree though that it's a shame that she didn't get an actual unique 2Player outfit. I'm not sure what they could've given her and I have a feeling the designers didn't know what to give her either but I'm sure they would've been able to think of something. Maybe a fancy fencer outfit
SC5 - Okay "Viola" (lol), yeah I actually quite liked her look here and it was a nice follow up to the SC4 look. And funny enough that while I think her official artwork looks cool, the frilled skirt portion of her dress actually translated quite nicely in the 3D model and it looks really good in motion as it's got nice flow, definitely better rendered than her SC4 look. I don't really think the look was that drastic since it still has the same silhouette that she had become known for.
2Player - So to get it out of the way, this was an amazing look, easily one of the best looks that came out of SC5 in my opinion. There are so many great elements here from the red dominant color palette to the lovely tassel belt that helps make her dress just stand out even more because of how well the two bounce off each other. They totally nailed the Romani fortune teller look here.
But the double-edged sword about this look is that seeing this look is what made me wish Viola was an entirely new character who was not Amy grown up. On the one hand as sh*t as I think SCV's story was, I will admit that I think it was endearing that they gave Amy a story of dealing with amnesia and how it affected her being and her relationship with Raphael but on the other hand, I just can't help but feel like this design would've totally worked for a completely new character with her own story to tell. Her weapon style was already creative (and fun to play) so it would've been cool to have her as her own new character.
But that's just my own thoughts on this. Overall I agree that it's a 10/10 look, hit out of the ballpark.
SC6 - 10/10, It's easily the best look she's ever had but I'm bias because of my aforementioned love for Gothic Lolita fashion and it was so nice to see them finally design a proper Gothic Lolita looking outfit for her. To add to that, I think it was a great redesign of her SC3 look where aside from making it look like actual Gothic Lolita, it also doesn't look too revealing giving that unsettling vibe that the original had. The shawl was such a nice touch and I love how they kept the long framing back skirt. The only minor thing I would've changed was keeping her haistyle how it looked in SC3 where her pigtails were looser and laid lower as opposed to the fuller style she has here that's been kept since SC4 but again, it's minor because overall, this is such a great look.
The alt colors also showcase how great this outfit is because they all look really nice and don't look awkward at all though I agree that it would've been cool if they had the Viola alt have hair laid down to make the reference much more noticeable.
Honestly with the amount of bonus characters in Soul-3 it bums me out we only got Amy in the future entries like look at Revenant the dapper looking skeleton dude with those wave blades or the shop keepers as examples.
I agree! Revenant and Valeria were my favorite bonus characters.

That’s a good idea, but it might be too many characters to cover in a single video. I guess I’ll wait to see how much I have to say about the V newcomers and decide then.

Not so far, but I’d be open to it. Technically speaking, Dante has appeared in some fighting games thanks to MvC. I’ll add him to the schedule and let you know when that video’s out. I have a lot of episodes lined up, so it will be a bit of a wait, but hopefully worth it!
