Was utterly transfixed by Rivers of Light on BBC Radio 3. Then went looking for more. How glad I did. Incredibly moving. That surely has to be measure of any art. Thank you.
Dios mio, que voz tan hermosa, es muy cálida! Excelente trabajo chicos y una excelente pieza! OH MY GOD, such a beautiful voice, it's so warm! Great job guys and a great piece of music!
The solo loosely translates as: "How many nights against the Northern wind, saw I the spirits fighting; The spirits are fighting in the sky, will bring war to our land". Our ancestors believed that the Northern lights are the spirits of dead warriors fighting each other, and it was interpreted as a sign of a coming war.
I love this song. I'm singing this in a competition today. I do have a few notes on this cover. It was a bit too fast and I didn't really hear the soprano 2s and a few of the altos. But overall this was absolutely beautiful!
Sometimes conductors choose to fluctuate tempos from the original. In the case of composers like Esenvalds/Whitacre/Ticheli, many conductors will slow down or speed up the tempo in order to manipulate the rich tone clusters.
The power and the glory of Esenvalds Northern Lights touches the soul.
the dynamics contrast is absolutely glorious. Love what you did with this beautiful piece
I'm in love with this song

Haunting. Wow.
I have GOT to show this to my choir director! (Also, imagine if someone did a mashup of this and Tundra by Ola Gjeilo...that would be awesome)
I really love their accent on the english. I don't know why but it just adds to the mystery of the music.
What language is this in?
The Solo part is in Latvian, the rest of the song is in English
Thanks!

Latvian Choir singing the work of a Latvian Composer. I think that does that song plenty of justice.
Also: the soprano 2s aren't supposed to be that loud
