Dear Janice, this is a beatiful love poem by Latvian poet Paulīna Bārda. Tāls ceļš Paulīna Bārda (1890-1983) Es mīlu tevi nakt’ un dien’ Kā zvaigzni tālās debesīs Un skumstu tikai par to vienu, Ka mīlēt mūžs man dots tik īss. Tāls ceļš līdz spožai debess pļavai, To man mūžam nenoiet. Vēl tālāks ceļš līdz sirdij tavai, Kas man kā tāla zvaigzne šķiet. Līkst augstu gaisā debess loks, Un dzidra gaisma lejas, Stāv pasaule kā ziedošs koks, Sirds mulst un raud un smej.
thank you for providing us the beautiful poem! Is there a literal English translation of the entire text or is the English version "Long Road" already the rough translation of it?
I just heard this performance brought on my local NPR station (in Fort Pierce, Florida). What an amazing piece of composition! What a beautiful and magical performance! Ēriks Ešenvalds and Arvo Pärt are quickly becoming my two favorite contemporary composers!!
So funny I’ve been saying this about so many renditions and this one was perfect. That languid beauty that just allows you to settle into its beauty. 🌹
Find it online at Hyperion Records, PASSION and RESURRECTION Esenvald/Polyphony: I love you night and day As a star in the distant sky. And I mourn for this one thing alone That to love, our lifetime was so short. A long road to heaven’s shining meadow And never could I reach its end.But a longer road leads to your heart Which to me seems distant as a star. High above the arch of heaven bends And light so clear is falling.Like a flow’ring tree the world is blooming. Overwhelmed, my heart both cries and laughs. The best performance of this work here onRUclips ! (Eriks was a member of this choir in the past).
They sound like a bunch of angels singing...
Just heard this on MPR Classical. Couldn't believe my ears!
so calming influence...
Magnificent chorus and conductor.
Perfect tempo, perfect expression. This piece is often taken just that tiny bit too fast. Sublime.
