- Join host Pete Pardo for a review of the cool new archival live 2CD set from Southern Rock legends The Marshall Tucker Band 'New Year's Eve in New Orleans-Roll Up '78 and Light Up '79!'. #marshalltuckerband
Hey, MTB were one of greats ! Amazing live band , Toy & George on guitars had such a sound (,blues,jazzy,rock)....unfortunately after the death of Tommy Caldwell on April 22, 1980 from a Jeep accident, they were never the same ,Tommy was their spark plug , so much energy on stage.
Another great live 2cd is Carolina Dreams “77” , if you have never heard them live , your in for musical treat 🎸🎸🎸🥁🎤🎹🎷
Thanks Pete for a great review of another under rated band.
Marshall Tucker Band, and the Climax Blues Band, my first concert, in '78. I think tickets were about 8 bucks lol Great concert!!
Toy usually sang Can't You See so it's probably him on that one Pete. Will definitely be checking this one out and thanks for putting it on the show. All the best...
Ah, I forgot about that! This would definitely make sense then, cause Doug sounds GREAT!
@@seaoftranquilityprog Pete....don't forget the Band of Gypsies....dying to hear your review on that....thanks.....
MTB = one of the great southern rock bands. Merry X-mas to me!
Great Southern Rock Band!!!
The Marshall Tucker Band in the Seventies!!!!
This Old Cowboy is one of the best southern rock songs ever, very jazzy music with very country lyrics. The Caldwell Brothers are missed as much as their more famous contemporaries are.
Great review I have this on Vinyl its very underrated! You mentioned the singers' voice being hoarse on Can't You See. That was actually Toy Caldwell their lead guitarist singing as he is the one who wrote and sang that song in the studio. Doug Gray sang the majority of their songs, but can't you see was all Toy Caldwell hence why that one song has the hoarse voice.
I remember recording this show off the radio. I used to play the cassette all the time. Finally found this recording again online recently. Looks like this new version was a record store day release and will be widely available January 2020!
Awesome to hear of this....
I’m down to grab one.
Gracias Pete✌️🎶🍺🔥👏
Thanks for the review on this Pete.
There's a Tom Dowd interview somewhere, in which he calls the ABB, a "jazz, gospel, blues band", and MTB a "jazz, country, blues band".
Pretty accurate!
@@seaoftranquilityprog If anybody should know, Tom would. The doc, Tom Dowd and The Language of Music, is a phenomenal story of a fascinating life.
RIP, Tom. Thanks.

Never Trust a Stranger, Desert Skies, Fly like an Eagle, Property Line, This Ol Cowboy, Blue Ridge Mountain Skies. All good songs besides their hits.
Thanks to the powers that be for releasing the actual Marshall Tucker Band for this release. I'm certain that this was the only way to cash in, but any MTB without Toy Caldwell doesn't count.
Meant Doug Gray, not Paul Gray.
Did you have Paul Riddle, their outstanding jazz influenced drummer on your mind?
@@tbls04 Guess so! LOL

Love the T-shirt! ✌️🇨🇦
Didn't know about this! Thanks, Pete!
I always thought MTB was an under appreciated band. I love their seventies stuff, especially "Can't You See" and "Searchin' For a Rainbow."
I own every album of basically every US band that started around this time. To me, it’s always been MTB followed by Little Feat. Those first 6 MTB albums are incredible. Favourite song is WINDY CITY BLUES.
It’s Doug Gray not Paul. That’s Paul Riddle the drummer
I always thought Toy was very overlooked.
Brian Baker Toy was amazing. Saw him solo with his band at a bar before he died unexpectedly at a young age. The guy could play any style and switch from acoustic/electric to pedal steel with ease.
Yeah, he was fantastic!
The lead singer is Doug Grey & Toy Caldwell sings Can’t you see. Get your facts straight!!!
Rolling Stone - magazine, a supposed “rock” magazine lists its albums of the decade. Absolute “joke”-not one metal album! I realize that metal is somewhat under represented in today’s music charts, but no Ghost, Dream Theatre, et. al. A possible Rant!
So that’s Troy says that not Paul
Marshall Tucker band always had Charlie Daniels. Well, I mean, you know, a lot. But anyway, Charlie Daniels is on their live album. Marshall tucker, you go get charlie daniels
They got a song called Virginia like the state of Virginia. ? Marshall Tucker band does a song. Virginia, that's a real deep song right there
Marshall Tucker band that got a song called searching. Searching for a rainbow allright let the wind show you where to go. How right I don't get
But just anything off that live album with Charlie Daniels. You can't go wrong with anything on there. It's impossible to do that hard you get it
Think we went to Jesuit High School together
