  • Harry Kalas: The Voice Of The Phillies - 1936-2009 (Tribute)
This is a tribute to Mr. Harry Kalas, the Voice of the Phillies. I'm not a video editor (and this video may very well show that), nor am I a baseball fan, but I am a Harry Kalas fan, and I just wanted to share this with other Kalas fans on this difficult day.
This one's for you, Mr. Kalas, and to your many fans. I look forward to meeting you on the other side.
(PS - Thanks to all my fellow YT users for your kind words, both to Mr. Kalas and myself. I want the text to stay primarily about Harry Kalas, so I decided to just say "thank you" here instead of responding to each individual message. Thanks for watching, posting, and remembering .)
(PPS - Kudos to Sony Music Entertainment & Reunion Records for realizing the benefits of free advertising via YT, and not asking for this video to be taken down or maimed. I wish others would loosen up and follow suit.)
(PPPS [Aug-26, 2012]: Thanks to YT for finally revising their copyright system and allowing strikes to be removed by removing videos that violate said system (Among other things), which allows me to make most of my videos public again. Of all the videos that I'm getting to make public again, this is the one I'm happiest about.)

I've met Harry on this side and he was everything that people said about him. He was a great human being that adored the Phillies fans who adored him back.
He took time out of his busy life to be with them - he never turned down a request for an autograph or to even do a cell phone voicemail message!
I also quietly paid my respects to him recently at his gravesite overlooking the Schuylkill River in Philly, a block from my brother's new apartment. He picked a lovely site!

    Thank you for the praise.
I was trying to find a good blend of "happy/sad," and ended up with moving, which I figure to be the best of both worlds.
This particular Mullins song is a good way to mourn the passing of a great sports broadcast figure while also serving as a celebration of a man who touched so many lives.
I really do look forward to meeting him on the other side.

I'm a Cubs fan, but I want all of the Phillies fans to know that we are hurting as much as you are, I can't imagine what Philadelphia is going through. I loved his voice, and he was so passionate, he was music to everybody's ears. RIP Harry, it'll never ever be the same, I'm with ya Philly.

As a Pittsburgh Steelers fan I very much understand how hard it is for the city of Philadelphia because a year ago Myron Cope of my beloved Steelers passed away. Harry truly was the voice of the city of Philadelphia just as Myron was to the city of Pittsburgh. Two very good hearted men who are missed very much. R.I.P. to both we all love you.

The Cubs lost Harry Carey. The Phils lost Harry Kalas. Both sets of fans were devastated.

OK, everybody -- Let's cool it down a bit. This is a small tribute and memorial to Harry Kalas, so let's not get into a flame war.

    I have to agree there.
I'm not a baseball expert, but I am a closet Yankees fan (born/raised in TX; very dangerous combo :) ), and I hope the Yanks can pull it off (assuming they can close out LAA), but the Phillies look too good from what I've seen this post season.
Should be a good World Series no matter what.
    Enjoy it, everybody!
