This episode was really good,I especially liked it when Michael and KITT where doing donuts etc in Armourbuilt's carpark.Thankyou for another brilliant video,Joe.
There's a problem with that scene though. The donuts is what draws attention and makes people compliment Knight, while in reality anyone can make donuts like that, especially the plain ones without countersteering. The real skillful driving was the Gymkhana between tanks, and it was some really decent driving. It would have been better if Michael started from making donuts, the people from Armourbuilt comment that he's an idiot, and then he goes to Gymkhana between tanks for which he would be complimented.
Thank you so so much for playing that music Joe, like many here I’ve always loved it too and it was really great to hear it intact. I’ve always been very fond of Buy Out, it has some of the best stunt driving and action set pieces of the entire series. Plus when I first saw this in February 1998 on Channel 5, I had finally gotten my hands on my own vhs recorder for my bedroom. The added bonus was that my remote aerial picked up Channel 5 a lot lot better than the main tv house aerial did, so I was able to finally watch Knight Rider with a crystal clear picture and record it too. So yeah this episode got watched a lot back then 🙂📼
Another great commentary on another great episode,Joe,really like this one....so lets see....the poor RHBD car,it certainly was in the wars in Junkyard Dog,glad they repaired him and yes i always noticed the bumper was never upgraded...whoever wore the orange jacket in the RHBD car didnt learn from his mistake as we see it again in The Scent of Roses when KITT pics Micheal up at the hospital, and he sits down in the seat and you see the orange arm..again,someone watching the dailies must have seen the orange arms and thought, we cant use that footage, but they did...oh and that piece of music is my phone ringtone....looking forward to the next one...
Modern Props also supplied the PKE Meter to both Ghostbusters movies. I heard from fellow Ghostbusters fans that the PKE Meter prop also appeared in a Knight Rider episode. The name of the episode escapes me at the present time.
Gene Hanson's reference to Michael's (imposed) driving skills was changed in the German version from Parnelli Jones to (then Formula 1 driver) Ayrton Senna. The name Parnelli Jones wasn't known here. 😅
In this episode, we see KITT's newfound self-consciousness and begins questioning his worth. The Knight Rider Archives website suggests this may have been brought on by the events of "Junk Yard Dog".
I swear some of the sound-alikes even had David singing lead. Is there anyway to research into whether he sat in on any of those sessions? "White Bird" totally sounds like David. but even some of the more well known cover tunes sometimes sounded like The Hoff on vocals.
The California sunshine plate started being issued in 1983 as series number 2AAA. It was overlapped with the blue-yellow plate series 1AAA from 1980. The sunshine plate was by special order only until the last blue plates was issued by the end of 1985. Sunshine plates went to a plain reflective white-blue plate with a red centered California script around 2FZZ by 1987. Just started issuing 9AAA plates this year.
The white Sunshine plate also coincided with the special order white 1984 Olympic plate since the Olympics were in Los Angeles that year. I’ve seen some 8Zxx plates and waiting to catch a glimpse of a 9Axx plate. It takes about 5 years to go through each numbered cycle. I wonder what new sequence will be used after 9ZZZ999.
@@hillstones The 84 Olympic plate was for that year only with the L.A. Olympic logo on the left side? of the plate and did not have the sunshine band on top. The next series will prob flip the number to AAA1. That was done in the spring of 1980 when the last 6 digit OOOZZZ blue-plates from 1970-80 flipped back to the 63-69 AAA OO1 black-plate as 1AAA. Takes about 4-5 years for a series to complete with a few details in some series past.

for me it is one of the most favourite episode - actionpacked and for me without stupid model tricks or boring things like in other episode. The showdown is cool and explosive, well done
I remember replaying the 24:49 jump over and over years ago thinking carnage must have ensued but guess the angle is misleading or the landing ramp maybe soft enough for the car to cut through it
yeah I always figured it must have gone wrong too, because they showed other landings that utilized a landing ramp before, but not this one. The ommission of damage in the production notes makes it sound like the landing didn't work right but didn't severely damage the car (which is good to hear at least). i would pay to see all the out-takes of the stunts not used
@@digitalmagicAR Yup, they did. They tried to save T/As by soft landing on hidden ramps. The ramp hidden behind police cars worked perfectly well, you can see the soft landing. But if you look closely at the first jump in the episode, when KARR jumps through warehouse gate over KITT, it's apparent he was supposed to soft land on a ramp, but instead the front goes rapidly up mid jump, and the rear goes down. The car clearly has crashed into the ramp instead of landing on it.
Hello there... I am currently watching all my Knight Rider DVDs again. I have spotted a couple of things, the more I watch. In one episode, KITT has to come to Michael's rescue and you see the gear shift moving into Reverse, but KITT moves forward and vice versa. You also see KITT having to Turbo Boost, but you see a human's hand pressing the button. I have also noticed some scenes of the Semi trailer where it is normally a gold knight insignia with gold striping towards the middle of the trailer and some scenes where the insignia is silver/white in colour and further back on the trailer. I am seeing more things as I go along... 😊
That big blue machine in the background at 18:27 caught my eye for obvious reasons, it looks like a bearing press but I can't find any information on it.
as soon as you mentioned something about a song so many asked about, i immediately thought "now dont tell me this song will come up now that i myself spent years asking several musicians who are more into "guitar music" than myself if they could identify it" and sure enough, it was exactly that piece. so nice! as maybe many others i was always sure it was just another popular 80s rock song their cover band used and i was just unable to find it. some of the people i asked suggested "blue öyster cult - don't fear the reaper" comes close and ideed it does, but close dont count. now that an expert on knight rider finally confirmed its not a cover but made for this episode, i can mentally put the issue to rest ^^ and live with the excellent "full lenght" version provided here :-P
Something that has caught my attention about this shot @9:35. Look inside that first door, there is a vehicle covered up that almost looks like the vehicle that destroys KITT in Knight of the Juggernaut
Another great commentary! KITT's "cannot jeopardize a human life" is yet again ignored when KITT hits the top of the Armor Built vehicle. Gene Handson is inside the vehicle and KITT is technically jeopardizing Gene's life. This drives me crazy in several episodes.
Was there another episide that mentioned Mel Mitchell and Armor Built? I vaguely remember a later episode where Michael mentions sending or receiving something from Mel from Armor built.
Here is an interesting fact for you. Clu Gulager has a son by the name of John Gulager. He is a director. He directed Piranha 3DD. And David Hasselhoff had a part in that film. So father and son both worked with The Hoff.
I wondered about the CA license tags for decades. The Coyote X ( late 1983) had the newer style tag but KITT the blue one. I've asked several people from CA through the years but never got a certain answer. So they began changing the tags around 1984 it sounds like but KITT kept the old style. Thanks!
Hi Joe good I’ve watched your channel for few years now I’ve been a knight Rider since it aired in England in 1984/5 I loved ever since I’m now fifty loving your channel over the moon when you started commentary if you can I would love to to hear more about the knight Rider sound stage how the insert shots were filmed Kitts dashboard how it works I know you have done a video about the insert dash but I would love more about the stage all the technical stuff thanks so much for taking the time to make the video’s for us fans outstanding Rob
Those armored cars in the lot weren't former Soviet BRDM-2s but WWII British Daimler Ferret Scout cars. And I believe that the BRDM Was deemed a mockup by people in imcdb.
As others have noted, the armored vehicles with the spare tire mounted on the side are Daimler Ferret Scouts. I recognized them as Nova Laboratories security vehicles from the 1986 film Short Circuit.
As some others have said, the scout car in the parking lot is a Daimler Ferret. They normally have a turret and a machine gun. That may be a mk1 as it doesn't. We own a Mk2/4.
Thoroughly enjoyed this breakdown. I have an idea for another video. Can you do one on all the cover songs that were done throughout the series? I have this thing I do to annoy my wife, any time a song that was played on knight rider comes on the radio, I tell her, “you know, knight rider made that song famous!” Nevertheless I always wondered how many different songs were used throughout the series.
I do almost the same…”this is a Knight Rider song”…both my twins and girlfriend has heard that many times…have almost all featured songs on a playlist that I listen to, driving my KITT-replica.
The Corvette prop plate (1DXI536) has the wrong style letter I on it. When CA switched to the narrower dies for 7 character plates, the I changed from a single line to one with serifs (horizontal bars at top and bottom). On 1ABC234 format plates, I O and Q are only ever used for the middle letter. Prop CA plates often have I or Q as the 3rd letter, like the Corvette's, so as not to coincide with a real plate.
I was about to ask about that music that plays too and I see you included it, so thank you so much :D :D :D Why didn't they include that on the Don Peake KR album? Would've loved to have it on there. Wish it was longer but it was really good. And yes, I too thought it was the instrumental portion of an 80s song. I actually like the Knight Rider soundalike/cover of the John Hiatt & Ry cooder song Skin Game (heard in Hearts of Stone if I remember correctly) more than the original song.
I watched this episode on Netflix recently and it looked to me that the stunt driver shorted the landing ramp (maybe hitting the turret on the ferret slowed it down). Reminded me of Gator landing the LTD half on/half off a barge in White Lightning.
Which was Hal Needham and not supposed to happen, and Burt was on the shore and dove in to check on his friend, as the barge captain left too early, hence why it was such a terrific slam there that basically broke the back of the car
Ive been watching my knightrider boxset......all the way from season 1 upto season 4 ...... at the moment im on season 3 .... episode called knight and knerd. so nearly at the last ever series!! 😀😟
So glad they actually used a real car and got a great camera shot on that jump instead of a miniature. I'm thinking the landing was on soft packed dirt and may have prevented major damage, plus I think the camera may have helped to break the fall a little too. Who knows? So there were two cars painted up with sidepipes in Custom KITT? I must've missed that info in the episode commentary. Oh boo hoo about the skid marks. Some racecar driver :/ I was glad they left the license plate original. Close to the old tags here in PA. Great video Joe 👍
I find all kinds of little things in the show that people don't notice like you found the lights in the rag and all that stuff I found stuff too maybe I can share sometime
The instrumental piece feels a lot like a rights-free clone of Don't Fear the Reaper mashed up with Sultans of Swing to me... (NOTE: I know it was an original, but it feels like Peake was going for the same general sound as those two songs.)
Actually, we failed to mention this in the video, but take a listen to "Love Will Find a Way" by Yes. About 15 seconds into the song. Almost positive this was Don's inspiration for this piece!
The tank may not make into the "Top Ten Bad Guy vehicles" list, but I think it deserves an honourable mention, plus Michael's fear of being cooked alive from "Ring of Fire" seems to have been justified, there was another character named Gene Hanson mentioned in"Ten Wheel Trouble" I think they were named after the "Junk Yard Dog" writer as an apology, plus I think Dr Von Voorman would be happy at KITT's performance, he got his mojo back!
One of my favourite episodes. Two pretty female guest stars. 'Good' Robin Dearden (Mel Mitchell) and 'evil' Susanne Reed (Lilah Graham). Completety different kind of woman but i like them both.
probably because thats the only way that the video is available. these were filmed in the early-mid 1980s when ONLY 4:3 ratio CRT TVs existed. widescreen wasnt a thing. and probably 320p was considered 'HD' at the time
@@williammitchell4417 true but handcuffs and regular door locks are not electronic either. Wasn't there an episode where he opened a deadbolt for Michael
That's a surprise. A Soviet era military armooured vehicle being used in the show. I surprised they would still export this kind of hardware to the West (this 1985 still being the Cold War) and it could have also been bugged by the KGB who could get vital intelligence on the USA's famous talking indistructable self driving black Trans Am!
...and a Russian Knight Rider was developed. A car that should not exist - The GT Nighthawk. Obviously named to avoid plagiarism, It also does some good Burnouts.
@@FirstDan2000 Yes I heard of this. The Pentagon tried to hire Clint Eastwood to steal it and drive it out of the Soviet Union as this car can only be operated by a fluent Russian speaker.
You know its funny with you bringing up the air conditioning, I was looking at the dash wondering how you could modernize if they ever did another series or tv show and cant remember seeing air conditioning vents in the dash at all, so the knight rider dash must have covered them up pretty well, which caused abit of an issue there, wonder why they didnt retrofit or redesign them around the vents, as that wouldnt just be an issue for hasslehoff, that would also be the stunt people too. also with the music at the start of the episode, season 3 would be about the same time Vice was starting, IE 1984 and 1985, which came on sometimes before knight rider, and with what people said of glen larson where he liked to take things from other shows I guess having don was his way of doing that without paying for the songs, as I remember seeing people in the comments about these videos watching both shows back to back on fridays ' so some bleed over would be natural, hell I think the episode they had where michael lost his memory and was being chased by kitt was straight using the same music they used in the hit list of miami vices first season granted I might be getting the clip wrong as its been 20 years since I've seen the show in reruns, but its the one where he turbo boosts through the glass.
I have said it before and I'll say it again - there's no way those front wheels stayed on that car. Your freeze frames do make me doubt that statement a little. But only a tiny bit. I didn't realise there was a film camera buried in the landing ramp when the Boost through a tank is performed. It does seem to be obvious that the camera survived enough to retrieve the film footage from it. Also your mention of the call sheets not detailing any damage to the stunt car gives me a little more doubt. I really want you to be able to tell me that the stunt car is never seen again through the rest of S3 and S4, because I really want to stand by that statement i made.
That's the roll caged jump car, which does make it until the end of the series, HOWEVER, we do know the car was replaced at least once during the show's run. There are usually 2 sets of call sheets - a set for 1st Unit, and a set for 2nd unit. This jump would have been 2nd Unit, and we actually don't have the 2nd unit call sheets for this episode. So, it is possible the car suffered severe damage! We should ask Jack Gill.
The wheels could have stayed, but |I bet the front stringers were damaged and the whole car suffered a sort frontal collision. Obviously the car needed at least welding and front suspension replacement.
I want to know why does michael knight always say to all the people he helps....."I'll come back one day" .....he never does!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣so why say it... ha ha 😂
Finding Jack Gill in every episode is like looking for the white wire 😂
Someone needs to meme Jack Gill with a red and white striped sweater and big, thick frame glasses...
🤣

So there were two cars painted up with sidepipes in Custom KITT? I must've missed that info in the episode commentary. Oh boo hoo about the skid marks. Some racecar driver :/ I was glad they left the license plate original. Close to the old tags here in PA. Great video Joe 👍
The scene where Michael and KITT were auditioning was my favorite scene, that was a bad ass pontiac trans-am😊❤👍
I always thought that piece of music was from iron madden, great music.
I find all kinds of little things in the show that people don't notice like you found the lights in the rag and all that stuff I found stuff too maybe I can share sometime
Cool episode :)
Good thing she's a beautiful engineer. Otherwise, she may not have been saved. Oh the '80s :D
Now California has a black plate with yellow letters and numbers
I think it would look good on kitt replica's as well.
It hurts to watch when KITT is harmed this bad!
Indian Dunes reference and possibly film also in an episode of The A-Team where the A-Team takes on a corrupt SWAT team
I got a question in the pilot episode I'm Knight Rider kitt front bumper was different in some of the scenes
How they do the blind drive .was it a pic up or something please let me know
One of my favourite episodes. Two pretty female guest stars. 'Good' Robin Dearden (Mel Mitchell) and 'evil' Susanne Reed (Lilah Graham). Completety different kind of woman but i like them both.
This Episode was good
Small square video my dudes, why?
probably because thats the only way that the video is available. these were filmed in the early-mid 1980s when ONLY 4:3 ratio CRT TVs existed. widescreen wasnt a thing. and probably 320p was considered 'HD' at the time
I know what you mean dude. It'll be fine next week.
Great commentary,as usual. Wasn't the "Rocket launcher" button footage recycled as well from "Goliath"? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
I never understood how KITT could unlock doors, handcuffs, operate electronics, etc, but couldn't lower a pneumatic jack.
Electronics and hydraulics 2 different things.
@@williammitchell4417 true but handcuffs and regular door locks are not electronic either. Wasn't there an episode where he opened a deadbolt for Michael
@@williammitchell4417 he could micro lock hydraulic brakes.
A writers oversight?
'In Universe' though he should be able to microwave the pipes on the jack and cook the fluid til the lines burst.
@@FirstDan2000 yup. Remember in The Wrong Crowd in season 4 he used the thermodynamic generator to heat up the bikers tires until they blew.
Do you have other original songs from knight rider?
If yes can they be accessed to patreon members?
would like an wpisode on the company “Modern Props” location history operators interviews
Looks like the rear wing is snapped as well.
Poor KITT is always getting hurt
You know its funny with you bringing up the air conditioning, I was looking at the dash wondering how you could modernize if they ever did another series or tv show and cant remember seeing air conditioning vents in the dash at all, so the knight rider dash must have covered them up pretty well, which caused abit of an issue there,
wonder why they didnt retrofit or redesign them around the vents, as that wouldnt just be an issue for hasslehoff, that would also be the stunt people too.
also with the music at the start of the episode, season 3 would be about the same time Vice was starting, IE 1984 and 1985, which came on sometimes before knight rider, and with what people said of glen larson where he liked to take things from other shows
I guess having don was his way of doing that without paying for the songs, as I remember seeing people in the comments about these videos watching both shows back to back on fridays
'
so some bleed over would be natural, hell I think the episode they had where michael lost his memory and was being chased by kitt was straight using the same music they used in the hit list of miami vices first season
granted I might be getting the clip wrong as its been 20 years since I've seen the show in reruns, but its the one where he turbo boosts through the glass.
David Hasselhoff sang a majority of the songs during the last few seasons.
I wouldn't want to drive kitt during the summer being so hot in the car

@@piotrmalewski8178 maybe they just painted over it, and hoped we wouldn't notice.
Your video is in 4:3 instead 16:9 can you re upload so this time it's 16:9
I want to know why does michael knight always say to all the people he helps....."I'll come back one day" .....he never does!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣so why say it... ha ha 😂
He could have said "I'll be back" before Arnold did.
@@williammitchell4417 Exactly! 😉👍
Because Devon never gives Michael a day off work.
👍
