The Load era is actually fantastic. A lot of people unfairly dismiss it because it's more hard rock than heavy metal.
than trash metal
It's just not a metal record - people call them the Alternica albums
The live shows were awesome during this period I feel
It's not unfairly dismissed,it's justly dismissed rubbish
Agreed. I liked load and reload. They were unfairly mistreated. To expect artist to never do anything different is sounds boring for the artist and inhibits creativity
I may not like everything Metallica has put out (I like most of it) but I will forever respect their willingness to take chances and experiment with their sound. Load is one of those experiments that worked out magnificently.
This album is just them being themselves back in ‘96 and what they wanted to experiment with. I love it too!
This is what got me into Metallica. I was 8 and raiding my brother's album collection.
@@MisunderstoodSpaceMarine if this is what got you into Metallica, then hell yeah! I hope you’ve listened to their first 5 albums, because it’s a lot different.
I would not say magnificently. And the sales also might not actually reflect the popularity of the album itself.
Worked out lol,hearing check please
This album has some of James' most personal lyrics. You can really tell he was struggling, coping with addiction, coping with the death of Cliff Burton, and his mother.
Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn, The House Jack Built, Until It Sleeps the Thorn Within and Mama Said are all fantastic songs
Until It Sleeps and Mama Said are my favorites off Load. I LOVE The Memory Remaining from Reload.
I think the whole album is great. Load was a drastic style change for sure but it doesn't sound crappy and generic to me, like how many describe it. And I'm definitely a fan of the first 4 albums primarily, and also the Black Album to a lesser extent.
On the contrary to what many say, I hear alot of creativity and integrity on this album. As you said, it's apparent from the songs that he was dealing with his addiction and other personal stuff. Lyrically most of the songs are fairly deep topics and I think James pulls it off nicely.
Others may disagree, but I love the whole album.
I don’t disagree. It’s still my 7th ranked album by them, which says a lot about how good these guys are.
I agree. My favorite of their 90's albums.
Others may disagree, but I love every Metallica album. btw Lulu is not a Metallica album ;)
I totally agree: The House Jack Built, Until it Sleeps, Cure, Thorn Within, Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn... what's not to like?
This album was my gateway drug to metal. It's not thrash, but musically it's KILLER!
A lot of people hate on this album, but I honestly love it. And this song is one of my faves.
I think the real beauty in this album is the slower, moodier and introspective numbers. Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me in particular - both of which translated very well to the symphony shows.
two GREAT songs right there!!
Yes, my 2 fav songs off this album!!
It's a tie for me regarding my favorite song, between "Outlaw Torn" and "Bleeding Me". They've got that kinda slow but heavy melodic feeling to them. The guitar swells in "Outlaw Torn" are perfection, along with the whole outro!
I’m so pumped you’re doing load. A lot of people give it hate cause it’s not classic Metallica, but it’s still a very very good album. Top 3 of their catalog for me. Interested to hear your take on this controversial masterpiece
I wouldn't say top 3, but by no means a weak album.
Yeah, I can’t possibly go top 3. With Lightning, Puppets, and Justice in their catalogue, there is no way I can rank this album ahead of them. Even The Black Album is ahead of this album IMO. I could understand if you wanna argue Load over Kill ‘Em All (I disagree). Even Death Magnetic is better IMO (production just sucks). But I love this album, I really do. It’s grown on me so much in the last 15-20 years.
It definitely grows on you doesn’t it. James’ vocals in it are soo good
@@joelluis4934 this is when James really discovered his vocals. He pretty much had to because he blew out his vocal box on the Black album tour. He sounds completely different from like 1993 to 1996/1997. His vocals changed to a more bluesy sound, which he’s tweaked over the years, but he’s never gonna have that raw sound he had in the 80’s and into the early 90’s
Don't use load and pumped in the same sentence ☺️
Also, when you get to outlaw torn, you must react to the unincumbered version, which adds over a minute to the song.
The solo was played with a slide. It's a tube that you put on your finger. You slide up and down staying right on top of the fret markers.
Lol I remember when I was a teenager, I didn't have a slide so I just used a glass cup. Worked for me!
@@ZombieJesus1987 Lol. I used a beer bottle a few times.
@@thomasjr11111 I remember messing around with a Bic lighter once while stoned. Haven't tried that in many years now, but I can't picture much precision with a lighter. And of course there's a beer bottle. I've remember someone talking about "coke bottle blues" one time, lmao.
This whole effort of Load and Re-Load are great. They showed their talent in my opinion. The tone and composing is top notch. It's called growing up I feel. Still love all the older albums as well. The House That Jack Built is awesome along with Outlaw Torn. Hope you get to all of them.
There's a ton of good songs on this album: Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn, The House Jack Built, King Nothing, and Until it Sleeps are all great. This song and 2x4 are also pretty good too
As a lifelong Metallica fan, I have the unpopular opinion of Load being my favourite album from them.
Don't get me wrong... Load gets weird... Really weird... But as a music lover in my late teens I was fascinated with the direction they took. Fusing Metal with new age Grunge (at the time) with Bluesy and even Country undertones to it felt like a breath of fresh air in a sea of over done pop-rock. It was a ballsy move that I was excited to see fleshed out, but sadly their fan base panned it pretty badly forcing them down new directions. This could have been a whole new genre!
It has aged incredibly well though and "Bleeding Me" has to be the single most underrated Metallica song of all time.
As a fellow lifelong Metallica fan, I love both Load and Reload. It's an unpopular opinion, but I'm not listening to make other ppl happy, I'm listening because I love it.
And I feel like that The Garage Album set doesn't get the love it deserves.
@@shaedgirrl99 Astronomy is an another highly underrated banger ❤️
Being a fan doesn't mean that you can't have Load as your favourite album. It just means that you have to be familiar with all of their previous and post material. Plus you have to have a good knowledge of the band and their history from the beginning to present day.
Also a lifelong Metallica fan, Load is my favourite album of theirs too.
I remember being disappointed when Load and Re-Load were released, like many fans I didn't take to the change of direction very well. But over time I have learned to appreciate these albums more than I originally did. Still not my favourite albums but they do have there moments! Both albums have some good songs on them but my favourite song from this era is Until It Sleeps.
I can honestly remember running home from the bus stop in high school because they had the premier of "Until It Sleeps" scheduled to be broadcast on MTV at like 4pm or so. I remember watching it and just picking my jaw up off the floor.
Aaaaaaand I have just broadcast how old my ass is to the entire internet, and I don't even care anymore lmfao 😂
@@shaedgirrl99 I'm guessing we're around the same age, I was in high school when it came out too, I also remember watching the premier of Until It Sleeps and I didn't know what to think at the end of it!
@@jimschlatman215 RIGHT?!?! It was great, but it was different, and that coupled with the hair made so many ppl mad. I loved it, because it showed that they were capable of evolving. I've seen them 3 or 4 times live, and every time, I've never left feeling at all disappointed. The one thing I was unhappy with was the Newstead issue, but I understand it. He needed to do his thing, he didn't want to stifle his artistic side anymore. And I say good for him.
@@shaedgirrl99 To be honest I was a bit iffy when I first saw the new look but I came around! Your absolutely right about seeing them live! They always deliver and put on an amazing show, one of my favourite bands to see live. Like you I’ve seen the a few times now, I see them everytime they play Toronto, They actually played Montreal this summer and I kinda regret not going. As for Newstead I understood where he was coming from too but it was still sad to see him leave…Always liked him in the band
I was in my last year of highschool when Load came out.
Favorite song from Load is King Nothing
Love that your listening to it with an open mind which lots didn't and why it got hated on. My favourite and im pretty sure alot of other fans favourites would be bleeding me and the outlaw torn. Bith incredible songs!! Love the reactions!
Best Load songs imo:
1) the house jack built
2) hero of the day
3) king nothing
Order gets kinda murky after that, but I wanna give a special shout out to Ronnie, which is almost entirely overlooked. That was the very first song on this album to crawl in my ear and stay there.
You probably should have started with hero of the day and just stopped there. This is the song why everybody think Load is crap.
@@sergi0YT is it my turn to tell you what you should do with YOUR opinion?
I love and support you all the way lilly jane 🎉
I'm addicted to their music. It's like a sonic drug 😍
Load and AJFA My fav 2 albums
Agreed my friend
You'll find that from here through Saint Anger is a lot of variety and experimentation. They'll dip into different styles, genres, including hard rock, folk, and even country. They take the risk because it's what they want to do, and I think it adds spice and variety to the Metallica oeuvre. You may not love a lot of these songs but I think you'll like and appreciate them. My favorite of this album is King Nothing, with Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn a close 2nd and 3rd.
I remember having the same expression in my face when I first heard that guitar solo.
Great song, good album
I didn’t listen to this album for a long time after it came out because people said they hated it but once I got around to it I can’t stop listening to it it’s one of my favorites
It grows on you. I felt the same way at first
I love it load and reload ❤❤❤ forever in my mind
Imho underrated a f. Both albums, Load and Reload contain a bunch of f great songs! The live version of “the outlaw torn“ sounds awesome!
A lot of people don’t like this album, but it has one of Metallica’s best songs in The Outlaw Torn.
Load & Reaload are cool, very different but those albums have good songs and a couple of masterpieces IMO. Glad you are giving them a chance!
Load was my introduction to Metallica it will always hold a special place in my heart.
This is a great song to rock out to and if you watch them perform this on the live show Cunning Stunts they have a great time with it and crowd was just having a blast.
Bleeding me❤
A lot of people unfairly crap on the Load and Reload albums. As a rock musician and songwriter myself, I've always liked my hard rock and metal melodic with meaningful clear lyrics, a tune that compliments what the song is about, and makes my head bob. Metallica delivers
that for me with almost all of their songs. What I think most people forget about Metallica, is what James said in an interview way back
in the 80's when they first started. He said that Metallica will always do their music how they want it, how they like it and doesn't really give
a crap what the mainstream says. Metallica was all about being different than the mainstream bands the time with their make-up and
teased hair. They've stuck to that mantra. Whether people like it or not. Ups for them for trying different sounds and experimenting and,
in doing so, they've delivered some amaszing music.
Which is something that unfortunately, a good portion of people who have commented in the comment section fail to comprehend, or realize, or understand because for whatever reason, they didn't want Metallica to doing something different, or go in a different direction, or experiement, or take risks which is absolutely very delusional as well as unhealthy.
Until It Sleeps is originally my favorite song in the Load album when it was released. But then Hero of the Day, but now after 20+ years, it is Outlaw Torn.
From the album LOAD I would highlight, Mama Said, Bleeding me, Hero of the day. although I clarify that I like the entire Album.
Best songs on this album “The Bleeding Me” and “ The Outlaw Torn” 🔥💀🔥
I was introduced to Metallica with Load, loved it
Load and Reload are so underrated albums. All thanks to those damn Fuel and Unforgiven.
This album is so great
Fantastic production and strong grooves throughout the album. Personal fave track is "The Thorn Within", got to sing that song with some friends in a band back in 2000 which was fun. Nice little "For Whom The Bell Tolls" riff gag at the end of this song.
The Outlaw Torn! It's Amazing
Best song is easily bleeding me or outlaw torn. Cult classics off this album and the powerful songs
Great reaction Lilly ❤ I think we will see tears when you react to HERO OF THE DAY. AMAZING TRACK
James vocals are in Load, and in Reload insane.
The House That Jack Built is imo the trippiest song of them.
Bleeding Me, King Nothing, Heroe of the Day, Cure, The Outlaw Torn. All good songs.
"It's definitely growing on me like a fungus...."
Hahahahahahaha!! That's the perfect way to describe the Load/Reload era albums, LMAO!!
Until it sleeps and outlaw torn are my fav from load!
Very good reaction.
Great album💯
fav song: mama said and the outlaw
When I listened for the first time it was Bleeding me because it was the song that remain me the black album.
Best songs on this album:
Bleeding me
Outlaw torn
Until it sleeps
King nothing
Hero of the day
2 x 2
Ronnie
outlaw
the house
mama said
I think Bleeding Me is the best track off of this album. I also liked Ain't My Bitch, 2x4, The House Jack Built, Until It Sleeps, King NOthing, Hero of the Day, Cure, Wasting My Hate, Mama Said, Poor Twisted Me, and the Outlaw Torn
Load is quite rad! Jack that house built is my fave. Outlaw torn is great too!
Metallica put out a concert record during this era called Cunning Stunts. i love it. its one of my first records
Yes. And just fun rock from the best thrashers!😂👍
Hard to choose the best one… King Nothing, this song, Wasting My Hate, Hero of the Day, Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn… lol I could argue which one is my favorite on any of these lol
I lit up when I saw this in my feed. I’ve been waiting for the Load/Reload reactions 😂 I’m excited for you to get to “Mama Said”. Hearing it is gonna give you a whole new perspective on this band 😂
Very underrated song
Bleeding Me is awesome!
As for me, Load album is absolutely fantastic. It kinda opened for me new Metallica. I love all of the songs on record but absolutely adore "Hero Of The Day"
that was the thing with Metallica after the black album....we love them cause their Metallica but the sound did change...the image changed, it evolved like a lifeform. After all who wants to paint the same picture day in and day out....for 40+ years.
It was a slide that was used in the solo.
Load & Reload are so underrated ...
They're goto albums for me...
The energy they put off feels like it could create a world and everything in it in 6 days or less.
Favorite songs from Load... The Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, Until it Sleeps, Wasting my Hate, and Hero of the Day are my top 5 in order. 90s Metallica is actually my favorite era for them. I know, heresy. But I was born in '86 so 90s music is what I grew up with. And I do love all Metallica, but the 90s are just my favorite.
This was a good album. King Nothing and Outlaw Torn are my favorites from the album.
I remember first buying the "Load" album, getting home and popping it into my stereo system. First listen, gotta admit, I was NOT impressed. But because their first 5 albums, were SO DAMN good. I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Because sometimes, it takes more than one listen to "enjoy" an album. The more I listened, the more it grew on me. By no means my favorite album, but it's got some great cuts. As for my favorite? Toss up between 3 songs... "Until It Sleeps", "Bleeding Me" & "The Outlaw Torn". I haven't listened to this album in YEARS. Looking forward to listening to it again with you. Because sometimes your insights, provide me with a whole new different way of looking at these songs. And I TRULY enjoy that. Which is why I enjoy your channel SO MUCH. Anyway, loved your reaction to this. Keep up the GREAT work! Looking forward to re-discovering "Load" with you.
@Wykkedmofo- I agree 100%. Felt the same my first listen.
I'm so glad that you're doing Load / ReLoad. These two albums are great because they introduce elements that Metallica doesn't do super often, like overlapping vocals and layered moving guitar harmonies.
My favorite songs from Load / ReLoad are "Hero of the Day" on Load and "Fuel" on ReLoad. I can't wait for you to get there!
Curious how you respond to this album. The big hit songs are def the 4,5,6, and 7 track. My fav song on this album has always been Bleeding Me. I will admit I hated the sound of this album back in 96, but this album has grown on me so much! I thoroughly enjoy this album now. Outlaw Torn is another really good song. A lot of Metallica fans hate on this album, but they seem to miss the fact that people grow and become different over their lives. This album is a really good example of how the members of Metallica grew out of their 20’s and started making music that appealed more to their life structure. I appreciate that, while other Metallica fans are just stuck in the 80’s when they were just out of control and crazy thrash metal sounds (which was badass and their best sound honestly).
I like how you say "sounds like the music of the last ten years or the early 2000s, but this album is nearly 30 years old (christ i'm old, bought it on day of release in 1996)
Bleeding me is the best song on Load! Actually 1 of my favorite all time songs of Metallica.
If anyone else or some new band had put this album out it would have been called "brilliant" but since it was Metallica, "fans" called it garbage. It's why I never hate on something until I've heard it.
Load and reload are the kinda songs you listen in the car 🤘🤘
One of my favorite sayings, ain't my b*tch, lol
For Bluesy-Metal/Heavy Rock, it's pretty flippin good (Load and Reload)!
This song sold me on the Load album. King Nothing was next in line.
for me me Load and Reload are tied to my Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 2 playthroughs at the time. My brothers and i were blasting these on the family 2 CD, 2 cassette system while playing through Resi 1 then 2 on the ps1, on the family 27 inch. in those days the family stereo and tv occupied the same wall and was called the "entertainment center".
Until it sleeps, or bleeding me. I've been waiting on you to do these albums, load and reload, since you finished the .... and justice for all album.
Cant wait for her to hear Mama Said😢
Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn are two of my favourite Metallica tracks. You may get a bit of a shock with Mama Says.
I recommend checking out a 3 sister rock band from Mexico, they love Metallica & have an incredibly infectious energy.
The Warning⚡ is made up of Daniela (Guitar, Lead Vocals), Paulina (Drums, Vocals) & Alejandra (Bass, Backing Vocals)
2014 their cover of Enter Sandman by Metallica went viral (14, 12, 9 yrs old respectively).
2019 they did a live cover of Atlas, Rise! by Metallica at the Whisky A GoGo
2021 at the invitation of Metallica they did a re-imagining of Enter Sandman for the Blacklist album celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Black album
Since then they’ve gone from strength to strength, opening for Foo Fighters, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Muse along with their own headline tours.
Their original music is also fantastic, anything from “Live at Teatro Metropólitan (CDMX)” will showcase their current live wall of sound.
Load has some great songs, my favorites being “The House That Jack Built” and the epic “The Outlaw Torn”.
Glad ur continuing the Metallica Journey - King Nothing would be my favorite song from this Album!🖤🤍🤘🌑🎹🎸
I’d have to say Bleeding Me is the one that always gets me on this album… followed very closely by Outlaw Torn!
Best Load song... That's an hard one. It depends on the mood I'd say. Bleeding Me and The Outlaw Torn are the obvious ones, but sometimes I feel Hero Of The Day is my favorite, or even Wasting My Hate (love that riff so much). Until It Sleep also got his moments. At he very moment, I'd go with Bleeding Me.
Bleeding Me.
Ohhhh I really hope you enjoy Load (and Reload) as much as I do...
I think you'll probably like "Bleeding Me" and "The Outlaw Torn" off this album the most.
This album is fun but it gets really deep at times, I think you'll enjoy it :)
Regardless of one's opinion of the music (I loved it then and I love it now), Bob Rock's production is fantastic. He gets wrongfully accused of being the cause of Metallica "selling out", but you can't deny his skills in the studio.
This is also the first album where Kirk played rhythm. Before this he only laid down solos
Easy question: my two favourite songs on the Load album are Wasting My Hate, and The Thorns Within.
The Thorns Within has never been played live.
Bleeding Me / Outlaw Torn
For me, these are the best songs on this album.
Gotta go with Bleeding Me. You are going to love it! Great reaction by the way!
Bleeding Me
Can’t wait for you to get too until it sleeps, easily a top 10 Metallica song for me.
Bleeding me
My favorite song on the load album is Outlaw Torn.
Good one off the Load album. 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Load is probably their most underrated album. It's absolutely amazing, I can't wait for you to get deeper into Load and Re-Load.
Load is a great album! Reload…is meh.
@@jaybird455 I don't like it as much as I like Load, but I still enjoy it.
Keep going down the Metallica rabbit hole!
My favorites are The outlaw torn and The house that jack built.
Definitely some hidden gems on the next 2 albums! Very different, but quite good
Yes indeed, And Through the Years I've appreciated the songs more and more...
Hero Of The Day is my favorite
Love your reaction to this. So glad you're still on the ride. Do people really head bang hard to this song? No. But doesn't mean it's Not good or can't have fun with it. I hope you love the rest of the album like I do
