Thank you for all your recipes on this grill. Because of you, I went out and purchased one. My first attempt was these wings. The process was exactly as you demonstrated. Through experience, I never use the BBQ rubs. I find less is more and usually go with simple salt and pepper. The way I made these: I used a little over 3 lbs of drummets and wings. They were already thawed. About 21-24 pieces I used a mixture of baking POWDER and cornstarch as a coating. (1tsp of each for every pound of meat) I mixed four teaspoons of each in a separate bowl. You can add a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly. Pat wings dry and place in a bowl. Make sure the skin on the wings is covering the meat and not pulled back. Add the flour mixture and mix the wings by hand to coat. Place an air fry basket in the smoker. Add Pecan pellets to the hopper. Select the air crisp mode. Press the wood fire button. Set temp to 400 degrees for 25 minutes. Let the grill go through the ignition and preheat process. (about 5-7 minutes) Place wings skin side up in the basket. Close the lid and smoke/air fry for 10 minutes-open the lid. Flip and cook for another 10 minutes-open the lid. Flip and cook for 5 minutes. They were awesome by themselves. Otherwise, coat in your favorite sauce. *one of the advantages of not using a rub is the fact that they will not darken as much during the air fry process. (usually because of the sugar in the rub)
I 'll tell ya the honest truth... been grilling over charcoal for 40 plus years. Never cared for gas or pellets. This unit is thing is OUTSTANDING... Got it for Father's Day ( actually b4 but had to wait on the stand) it rained here in VA every weekend for a month. I'm a Railroader... Finally got a chance to mess with it this weekend... I was impressed... Did some wings ( air fried then grilled) and some stuffed pork chops... only thing I'll do different is smoke'em for half the cycle and finish on the grill cycle. I've done this several times & it's my new favorite way to do wings. The basket holds 20-22 wings, which is conveniently exactly 1/2 of a 3-lb bag of frozen. Unlike most air fryers where the heat comes entirely from above, the Woodfire has a 1000w element under the grate and only 500w above - don't know for sure but I believe even in the Air Crisp mode most of the heat comes from the grate? Anyway, I've quit flipping them halfway thru. They get cooked just as well and I don't lose any cooking time.

Not a dumb question. I get it all the time though. It’s labeled as an outdoor oven, so I keep it outdoors only. Just my preference and I can’t give the thumbs up to using it indoors.

So can you smoke your wings or whatever your cooking ON the air crisp setting? Like at the same time or do you have to smoke first and then do air crisp?
You can smoke at the same time. Seems to be what really sets the Ninja apart from anything else out there. You can turn on the smoke in any cooking mode!
We just got our Woodfire Pro this week and tried it out today. I marinated a boneless skinless chicken breast for 3 -4 hours and then put it on the grill with the thermometer inserted. It cooked about 30 minutes on the grill setting and smoker activated to the set temp of 165. It looked very good but was quite dry and tough. What did I do wrong?
I always use 2 different thermometers. Also always make sure you let chicken rest for 10-12 mins after cooking. That keeps the juices running and no dry chicken breast
Hey CJ I am new to the channel as of today. I just had one question and not sound like a know it all. I was just wondering why you heated up the grill and then you put the chicken and letting all the heat out as you put the wings in the basket? Thanks for the video!

Hi CJ. Just a question. When you set it to air fry with wood flavor, does your fan run very fast like the indoor? I made wings today with woodfire on and the fan ran very low and a lot slower, Very quiet. Didn’t seem right. If I run air fryer setting with no woodfire, the fan kicks into high like normal
@@CookingWithCJ not sure you’re understanding. When you put your Woodfire outdoor grill on air crisp and smoke, the fan runs a lot slower. But if you run it just on air crisp, it runs high just like the indoor model.
I have returned one unit and the second one does the same thing. So I am thinking that is the way it should work. But I want to know about your wings, did the fan run lower when you smoke your wings and then ran a higher when you air Crisp them without the smoke button.
If you still insist that the air fryer setting with smoke in the fan runs very high versus the air fry with the smoke setting off runs a lot lower then I guess I am returning my second unit. Unbelievable.
