The porcelain being burnt sometimes is a sign of combustion gases escaping through the plug.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in changing the air filter and there is no real way without using specialized air flow testing equipment to know how plugged the air filter is. But unless you drive on dirt roads and that filter is really caked with dirt I don't think changing it every 10,000 miles is necessary. In fact when I take my vehicle in for servicing I tell the service writer do not remove my air filter, do not change my air filter.
just the act of removing the filter from the airbox introduces a lot of dirt into the intake. And almost all the time the technician will come into the waiting room with my air filter to show me and say "See how dirty your filter is?" to which I will reply "I TOLD YOU NOT TO REMOVE MY AIR FILTER!!!!!! NOW REPLACE IT FOR FREE!" of course they never do even if they say they will. I know cause the next time they come out with my filter in their hand it's the same OEM filter that's been in the car since I have owned it. I live in the city and I only travel on the interstate or city streets. That filter will easily last 50,000 miles in my driving conditions. They are just trying to sell more parts. Now the oil and filter that's another story. I believe that if you are going to keep a car till death do us part than the change oil indicator on the dash is woefully inadequate. Mine says to change my oil every 8,000 miles. I have mine changed every 4,000 miles i use synthetic and I change the oil filter every time I change the oil.
That's just my philosophy you can do what you want.

Why would the intake get full of dirt if the car is off… i live in central california so there is a lot of farm which means lots of dust so i change it every 6 months. And the fact that the technician SHOWS u how dirty it is proves you should change it more often. Preventative maintenance is about changing parts BEFORE they get too bad.

@@232memo When you take the filter out dirt falls off of it and into the air box. I have seen way too many mechanics that just remove the old filter and replace it with a new one and never clean the air box before installing the new filter. Just because a technician says the part is bad or dirty doesn't mean it is bad or dirty. Their job is mainly to sell parts and service first and tell the truth or lie which ever is necessary to make a profit. I am a retired truck mechanic so I believe I am a good judge of when an air filter is too dirty and needs to be changed. You are welcome to believe what ever the technician tells you. I on the other hand am a sceptic, and judge things according to my experience.
And in your case if you live in a dusty environment then you probably should change your air filter more often. I am not faulting your judgment.
