The art of building a set or the journey of an album is pretty much gone.
People wanted that back then, I wanted it. Being able to dance and dream away in a melancholic emotional rollercoaster was appreciated.
Now it's just drop after drop after drop, instant gratification, no patience, just skip to the drop and move on. Different culture........I hate it 😴
Oakenfold, Sasha, Digweed, Hernan, Nick Warren, ATB, Mike Push are some of my top go-to artists. I was not old enough to understand their music in the late 90s or early 2000s, but now when I listen to these folks, I am just blown away every single time. Would have loved to party to their music.

Criminally underapprediated compilation. This dropped at a time when many were calling Oakenfold a mainstream sellout, and yet, these songs stand up to the test of time better than most that released in 2001. To be sure, stylistically it is dated (not terribly so, but the repetitive drum loops, simple structure, and excessive lengthiness of some parts of the tracks are what they are), but it was more forward-thinking than many of its counterparts. Oakenfold saw the future of the industry while many others were just trying to capitalize on what was the flavor of the day. Definitely one compilation I very much find myself coming back to. I especially love The Prodigy mix (Narayan) on this disc.
Derek Elliott and what he mixes and how he mixes is another topic altogether. I've never heard of his brand of techno from any other DJ. it definitely falls under "addictive techno", because of his talent in choosing the next track that will be something so extraordinary. Some of my all-time fav is of course this one and few others, but the Creamfields session is a masterpiece.

this compilation is where i parted ways with oakenfold. i searched for a live 2017 set and can't believe the crap he was playing. his essential mixes were pretty damn good though. sasha and digweed never really stopped outputting quality.
