I was never a hardcore music fan growing up but since I'm from a Dominican household bachata was always around me.
I need to start listening to more bachata artist but IDK, there's something about some Bachata music that makes me feel like I have to older to appreciate it, even tho people my age and younger listen to it 😆.
20+ years later and my is still obsessed with Aventura and Romeo haha.
Also, when you remake it are going to include some thirst trap clip 👀 lol
@@crzyboy190 hey, this was my first one ok lol. I get what you mean about the age thing, I've always liked it but I didn't REALLY start appreciating bachata, and especially the older stuff until a couple of years ago. And no, no thirst trappin 🙄 lol

It's funny how all over the World the music that becomes popular and ends up defining it is the music that started out low status in the slums and back waters. Tango, Samba, Reggae, Blues, Jazz, in Egypt they got a genre called Shabby and it's child Mahregan, Turkey they have Roman Havasi from the gypsys. I guess because the poor people are most in touch with their emotions while the upper classes are usually more restrained and want to maintain that air of dignity, but at the end of the day, we're all human and we feel the same emotions. The poor people are the ones who have nothing to loose so they say the things the rest of society is feeling but too afraid to say.
Yes! Soo true. Both merengue and bachata originated in the rural areas of DR and are now our national symbols. I was actually watching videos the other day of Spanish Flamenco and it's a similar story with them and the gypsies that heavily influenced it.

It’s interesting how times change, like how gulyas and pizza were the food of the poor Hungarians/Italians and now they are the food after which the country is recognized. Same with the hippies, 40 years ago they were hated and now it is a cool thing.. Orr how jeans are fashionable and yet in many languages the word for jeans is farmer/farmerica as it was used by peasents for it’s durability

Such an informative video but, even though you did mention Aventura, I'm amazed that Romeo Santos didn't get his name mentioned specifically for his contribution to the genre. 🤔💕

When it comes to Bachata and béisbol, I always lose my Dominican card lol. I don't care for béisbol and Bachata is alright. I always say a mi gente Bachata está bien pero no me gusta mucho. My relatives of course love Bachata. Mi madre dice que la música la relaja. Pero algunas canciones de Bachata me gustan. Pero el tipo de la música dominicana que me gusta lo más es el merengue típico Aka perico ripiao. My fiancee loves Bachata too. For me, my love for bachata came from my dad and all my uncles. Also, there is nothing like dancing una bachatica bien pegao with a love interest! Lol. Just wrapped up in eachothers arms, very romantic.

Just like I love merengue típico and she does not care for that lol. I got the love of Dominican music period from my mother. She loves Bachata, merengue, merengue típico etc. She loves salsa too. I will admit Bachata is laid back, romantic and very relaxing. Long time ago there was a Mexican co worker I had, we used to talk about music all the time. She was shocked when she found out I didnt like Bachata. She said, Wendell what??? You don't like Bachata and you're Dominican lol. I told her if it makes you feel any better, I loves me some merengue típico Aka perico ripiao o la música de Cibao lol. I told her not all Dominicans like Bachata or merengue. That's like saying all Jamaicans like reggae music. But we were just playing around and joking. I can say that cada persona es diferente y acepto a la gente tal como son. At first long ago when I heard about Aventura, heck I thought they were a hip hop reggaeton group like proyecto uno and fulanito. When I first heard their music, I said oh great, this boring Bachata crap lol. But now I appreciate and respect the music more.
Oh by the way although I am not so big on Bachata but I love that Bachata beat on that Bad Bunny's track, La Romana on his latest album. That Bachata beat to that Latin Urban hip hop track gives it ese sabor dominicano.

Great video. Only one thing, you left out Monchy y Alexandra and El Prabu Yoskar Sarante. Those two bands, as well as Aventura, shaped the sound of bachata during the early 2000s.

Bachata is a genre of Latin American music that originated in the Dominican Republic around the first half of the 20th century. It is a fusion of influences of bolero and son, with indigenous Taino and African elements, representative of the cultural diversity of the Dominican people.

How about the Mexican reggaetón sound it’s not very well known many Mexicans know that Mexico has is own regional sound of reggaetón that seems to have started in Veracruz but it’s interesting with a mix of reggaetón and some regional Mexican sounds such as banda and Mexican electro cumbia and other various sounds from other parts of Latin America it’s good stuff and there’s barely any information on the internet on it

I enjoy this video a lot and effort you put into it! Great work! Xtreme was the first Bachata group I fell in love with.
But if you will permit me I would like to address some factual errors that I often seen promoted in the history of Bachata that are in this video
Calderon’s Borracho de amour’ is actually type Peruvian Waltz and as such has little to do directly with Bachata. It was on the B side, but never the-less a popular hit of Calderon’s at the time.
Nearly all those who we consider founding fathers of Bachata came as immigrants from the countryside to Santo Domingo before their teenage years. They all practical started their careers in the capital. bachata was not born or in country but came from a new generation of artists from the outer urban areas of the capital.
Blass Duran wasn’t the first to use the electric guitar in Bachata. Both Odilo and Ramon Cordero used them, both live and in recording before Blass.
Otherwise great video! But you can’t mention Raulin with out mentioning Anthony Santos!! 😆😆
It seems to me that pop was the only genre accepted back then? It’s weird because so many beautiful genres and to think they were looked down upon is crazy to me. With that being said. I looove bachata. The genre is the reason I wanted to create a Spanish playlist for myself. I connected with bachata on a deeper level. I didn’t understand much Spanish when I started listening to it but it’s like I knew the lyrics to all the songs because I felt every emotion. I use bachata in my workout when I dance. It moves me so much. I understand more Spanish now tho so I understand the lyrics better ❤️

I guess boleros and ballads were acceptable 🤷🏾♀️ by the time bachata grew merengue was ok, although even merengue wasn't socially acceptable when it first came out.

Hi!👋🙂 I had a question. I love bachata music and was talking to someone about it and somewhere in the conversation the topic of bachata originating in Puerto Rico came up. Im Puerto Rican myself and had never heard of that before and was really confused because I've always known and heard bachata is Dominican. They pointed me to a video of blas Duran saying in an interview that bachata surprisingly came from Puerto Rico. That it was played there and then was just tossed to the side basically and then it spread to Dominican republic. The people he uses as examples I think we're Jose Antonio salaman and jose miguel class. From what I heard they played bolero and that it gets confused with bachata. I hear Miguel and I can hear what sounds like bachata but I guesssssss it's bolero but wasn't bachata considered a varient of it.

In conclusion we all have our own thing. Cubans Puerto Ricans and Dominicans love each others culture music and food. Like family. At least I do and that's how I see it. We got African Spanish and Taino blood that connects us 🤣♥️
Hello 👋🏾 yes I've seen people making this argument lately but it's not true. As I wrote in another comment people are trying to say it is PR because it was influenced by bolero (which is actually originally Cuban) but it is 100% Dominican.
@maya332006 This article is just proving that bachata was INFLUENCED by guaracha and bolero, but what we know as bachata today was still developed by Dominicans. The proof is in the trajectory of bachatetos over the past 60 years. Where are all the Puerto Rican bachateros?? Dominicans made it their own thing and continued producing it to this day.

BLAS DURAN MAY HE REST IN PEACE. Blas duran was the first one to give Luis Vargas and Antony Santos heants the rivalry y la bataya en tarimba. Also reasons why Luis Vargas era tan plebe como blas duran. That brought his career to a pause then he came out with the album en serio. Then came the reighn of hits non stop. I enjoyed this video. Found it ironic that you mentioned Antony Santos and Luis Vargas right after blas duran.
This is kind of similar to how American jazz was. The elite class was able to record songs first and get credit for being 1st while the lower class didn't have the same opportunity 🙃 but they weren't able to erase the real history
I knew it! Every time I hear Bachata I imagine a woman sitting in the dark at at table with a bottle of run with her hair all messed up and she crying and her mascara running! I prefer Merengue. I don't wanna hear music to make me sad.
Lol, that bachata hits heavy when you're actually going through a breakup or something, but not all of them are sad! A lot of bachata is happy love songs as well
This comment may be a few years old but still relevant. That's mainly the very old school forms of the stuff that everybody now nowadays thinks of like I've been through it or Romeo Santos that's more on some new bachata where they mix r&b / new yorkanized hip hop influences.
Old bachata might as well be more closer to a latinized blues

No they don’t, Angola’s dances started implementing partner dancing after Portugal colonized and influenced the region, hence why you won’t find any partner dancing semba from the 1800s.

Bachata actually came from Puerto Rican vellonera music. Research this information. It is confirmed. Blanca Iris Villafańe and Odilio Gonzalez were inspirations. It became less popular in PR and DR took over and made the beat faster and now basically own it. I was surprised it started in Puerto Rico too. Then again merengue started in Cuba called Upa and it was adapted to merengue and again owned by Dominicans today

We recognize it as a Dominican music genre but with everything there is history. Not sure if u even know merengue started with UPA music from Cuba.... I speak only facts. It is not Cuban though, it is Dominican since DR added beats to make it theirs. Reggaeton comes from Panama..es la Cuna but it is considered Puerto Rican music bc we added our own spin to it.

Yes it did! Almost every Latin country had their own style of bolero. In Ecuador and Venezuela had that same campesino style of bolero; heavily influenced by ranchero music of Mexico, but it was in DR that it evolved into what we now know as bachata. The dance, the music and the name all was created in the Dominican Republic!
