  • The 230 watt amp I was using with the 4 Buttkicker Mini LFE units were overheating when playing at reference volume and very extended times. Theory 1 is the amp is clipping. Theory 2 is they are just getting heat soaked in the seats. If it's the amp, more power is the answer. They are rated from 50 to 250 watts, I'm at the low end now. Time to feed them several times that! I got a Behringer NX3000 rated for 3000 watts in bridged mode at 4ohms, which is how I'm running the units. Let's see how it goes! I also show you how to fan mod the NX3000 amp for silent performance, and what adapters and other mods you need if you want to run a pro audio amp like this for your subwoofers or transducers like buttkicker or other brands.
NOTE as a commenter pointed out, the speakon connector comes apart and you can run your bare wire directly in to the connector end if you want to. Mine screwed right off.

Nice video Bryan, Most speakon connectors you can open by unscrewing the blue cap, and push the cable out, you can then if you want connect you own cable with two little screws. Making it even cleaner.

Great video! I just found your channel and first video I watched was the one where you installed the transducers with the 240 watt amp. That bottoming out feeling you mentioned is the transducer being overdriven. You have enough power now, but the transducers are the limiting factor, they're too small to deliver what your asking and in the most intense scenes they bottom out, not because your amp can't deliver the power, but because they cant reproduce the output at the level you're requesting. Only solution is to get a larger transducer which will have more headroom, something like the ButtKicker Advance.

Lol nope. It was clipping from not enough. Feeding it more cured it.

I have 2 LFE with a QSC DJ amp at max volume on the amp and turn the gain down in the stereo just before she bottoms out , running full range picks up obviously lower notes , and mounted to the springs gives it a different feel , my cushions move up and down it’s so freaking great , I’m still playing with it everyone’s couch is different . Best bang for the buck upgrade .

I just bolted 2 buttkicker LFE full size to my 3 person sofa and it’s insane. Haven’t had them bottom out or give up even with single digit frequencies. It’s been crazy. I have the old bka-4 amp which gives 2 buttkickers about 2k watts

U should invest in a distortion detector, or a oscilliscope to look at ur signal to see if its clipping. This is a good one the SMD dd-1. Jus search that and u can find it on amazon. It works really well and so many people are using it. I hope this helps u out on finding out if ur clipping or not.

I don't have experience with these, but in a car amp setup, the gain adjustment is critical. I would try feeding some low frequency signal(you can download some) and measure the output with a scope. Adjust the gain as needed.

The input side is running maxed. 0 on the avr, 15 boost in minidsp. The amp gain is used for level match. The old amp was turned way up, this one is lower. It was needed for the headroom.

Is there anyway you could link me to a guide to hook up my Behringer NX3000 and 2 Buttkicker Advance transducers? I replaced the fan like in your video. I then purchased the XLR to RCA male cable and ran that from the Behringer input (Channel A) to a Y adaptor that is being shared with another sub and then going into my receiver. I'm having trouble figuring out the speakon cable to the transducers. I'm running two speakons, one from channel A output and one from channel B output to the two separate buttkickers, with the red wire going to the red pin on the transducer and the black wire going to the black pin on the transducer. I don't quite understand what it means to "run in bridge". I imagine I should only be running a speakon from the channel A output to the transducers but I don't know how I would be able to reach all four pins on the transducers (2 pins per transducer) with only a red and a black speaker wire coming from the amp (I bought the speakon to speaker wire)

To piggyback on what I said earlier: I am getting a signal from my Yamaha AVR to the Behringer and the two buttkickers are working but it feels severely underpowered and weak. When I run a test tone from my Yamaha through the sub 1 line, which splits to the Behringer and buttkickers, my subwoofer tone is normal but the buttkickers aren’t making a peep.

    • @previte27
      @previte27 2 года назад +1

I purchased an XLR to 3.5mm cable and plugged my Behringer into my laptop and low and behold I was able to get much more power out of my bass shakers (5-10 times intensity) which leads me to believe that for some reason I'm losing signal fidelity from the AVR to the Behringer via the RCA to XLR cable (it is a 25 foot cable). Perhaps if I was able to wireless transmit from my AVR to the Behringer I wouldn't have an issue. I see that you have a MiniDSP 2x4HD. I am wondering what else I would need in addition to this to be able to correct my problem.

I bought an NX3000 to connect to a pair of 4ohm Buttkicker Advance and I can’t get any output. I see the green light showing an input signal on the NX but the transducers don’t budge. I wired the cables to +1 & -1 on output A and wired the cables to +2 & -2 on output B and get nothing. I have no clue what I’m doing wrong. Any idea?

Maybe you could help me confirm that my setup is correct.
I have a Butkicker LFE 4 ohm 1500 Watt buttkicker. And of course it’s amp died which is predictable with Buttkicker amps. I’ve had 3 blow after minimal use.
    So to replace it I got a 2 channel Rockville 3000W amp which I have bridged at 4 Ohm: 1 x 3000W.
Going directly to the Buttkicker does not work I have learned because I need a preamp. I am currently using a MIX8 Mixer which seems like a match because I get a near sold green light signal at only around +12db.
    The mixer is rated:
    Performance
    Frequency ResponseMic Input to Output:
20 Hz to 30 kHz +0/-1 dB (Unity Gain)
    Line Input:
    +21 dBu
Output Level+21 dBu at Max Gain
    I/O Impedance
    Line Input:
    ≥ 10 Kilohms
    Main Output:
    120 Ohms (Unbalanced)
    240 Ohms (Balanced)
    CrosstalkInput to Output:
-85 dB at 1 kHz (20 Hz to 20 kHz)
    Master Fader Off:
    -75 dB at 1 kHz
CMRR> -70 dB at Max Gain (1 kHz, Mic In to Insert Send Out)
    EIN-125 dBu at Max Gain
    Is this a good match?
Is there something simpler I could use?
    Thanks for your help!

Great videos. Been following awhile. Want your opinion. I have 4 Valencia seats. Currently I have a boss platform with 4 jbl 1200 w under each seat, hooked up to the behringer 3000. I think 20hz is what I’m getting down to with those. I’m still dialing it in but its pretty good at certain points depending on the movie or game being watched. My next step is debating on buttkicker minis or regulars and if you recommend one or two under each seat seeing as I already have boss platform. Also, I’m currently in the market for a mini dsp and a windows os laptop seeing as the behringer software only works with that. Seeing I have a Mac, it does me no good in fine tuning my behringer. Thanks for your input.

Did you have any issues with the 3000 getting a strong enough signal? I'm trying to run 4 BK in bridged mode but I have to have the gain all the way up for it to intermittently get a signal but it's not driving the transducers. Thanks

    • @COGuyStuff
      @COGuyStuff  Год назад

The gain and the front level meters are the INPUT, not output. If you don't have strong signal there, that means whatever you are feeding it isn't enough. If you're using a Minidsp, increase the level.
