Oh! yeah how adorable romantically playing it is. I was moved so much, not only viola but also piano, stirring and touching veryvery much. (91yrs.Japanese)
Mr. Stegner is an amazing violist. Love everything he does. I do have to say he seems to own a viola that looks easy to play and has an incredible sound. Maybe more makers need to copy his instrument.
Best rendition in my opinion.M.Stegner is acutely sensitive to Schumann"s musical imagination.I think Schumann composed this piece especially for his children. The last movement is certainly a lullaby. Of all Schumann"s music this is my favorite. Bravo Martin!
One of my tops in the viola repertoire! Though I agree with one of the commenters, piano seems to dominate. Perhaps due to recording equipment?? Never heard of this particular guy, was always fond of Paul Colletti and his recordings. This guy’s viola is very similar to Paul’s. Love that the A string isn’t so nasally and bright, like most violists have (and even cellists). I personally prefer darker colors for the A strings (and in general). Superb performance, felt like every motif was heard and understood. Every section felt very clear. Saving this to my list! 😊
Why to critizie the intonation, when you see and hear somebody that's its trully puting his heart on music? I think it was moving and touching. But its my personal opinion.

One of the best recordings of the Märechenbilder that I have heard.

Absolute musicality. I think here is transmitted clearly what Schumann wanted to say. Mr. Stegner has an undoubtable sense of musical lyricism. Bravo!
Definitely one of the best recordings of this on youtube.
Excellent performance! Thank you both.
A great performance with a very good sound! The piano part is clear as the viola part, and the result is magical!!
An absolute joy to play. I wish more composers could achieve this level of melodic creativity, playfulness, and innocent fun in their music.
This composition is a masterpiece!
Such a beautiful, warm tone!
Bravo! Schumann :) - great playing
Muy buen sonido! el verdadero sonido de la viola, caracteristico! Excelente desde la primer nota hasta la ultima es Robert Schumann!
Bravo Herr Stegner! I have always been a fan!

Never been to hot of this work but it is played so well by both!
I honestly didn't recognize the piece at first when listening because there was so much heart from both players. Wow! Inspired
This composition is a masterpiece!
Bravissimo Herr Stegner. Salut from Brasil.

I think this is played as Robert Schumann would have wished. Very good performance!
Fantastic!
Wonderfully intimate music and beautiful performance.

Well done

great piece wonderfully played
Brilliant :-)
Far and away the best rendition. Honorable mention for Serova's version, though.
Beautifull!
Twoset need to get in here to review the sacreligious clapping, even if it's a viola piece
Virtuoso e Belíssimo Bravo.
Beautiful performance! Anyone knows what instrument Mr. Stegner plays on?
Viola

Balance seems a bit off. Piano could be a bit softer, no? Anyhow, just lovely!
+wupeide It could just be the way this recording was mastered and not how it was live.
well she is from Tamagoshis land. what did you expect???
It's a duet not a solo viola piece

Bravo ma ha la sordina???
4 years late but the mute isn’t put on the bridge so it’s fine

The pianist is wonderful and the violist is very passionate and individual in his rendition, although his intonation seems off to me in some areas.
Yea live performance... happens. He's a beast though, no doubt. Studio recordings spoil our ears.

Julia Grimoldi schumann + viola =great combo!
I think he’s amazing.
Awful camera work for the 1st movement. Focus not majorly on his face ffs, and if so include his fingers as well
