A perfect exercise in orchestration would be Alkan's Symphonie for Solo Piano. Since it's intended to be "Symphonic" by nature - although I think it's remarkable in the way it turns the piano into it's own kind of orchestra.
Indeed, and I love this piece! Some composers in the way they write for piano clearly imitate orchestral groups, like in Mozart 12th sonata. It’s always fascinating for me to listen to a piano work and to wonder how the work could be in its orchestral version!
Hi Alex!! Love this video!! I'm definitely still on the look out for the full orchestral video for each instrument .. in the meantime I really love your 5 step process. I find it really different (different in a good way) from how I approach orchestrating my own pieces. But I guess that's in nature due to the fact that I often compose orchestral midi mockups with a piano sketch first consisting of a few aspects per track in my DAW (like, melody, counter melody 1-3, harmony 1-2, runs 1-2) and then I also color coordinate it based on which orchestral family I envision taking certain sections. If more than one, then I make a note of this in my marker track. I am interested, as I've mentioned before, in another one of your videos -- in i guess reverse engineering my work and going from DAW to notation. I really want my works to be eventually recorded live and so I've definitely gotta get on that. Speaking of having works orchestrated, I have a piano sketch that I already orchestrated, but I'd love to hear what you did with it. Are you willing to take submissions still? Peace be with you.
Hey again Jon, glad you're enjoying the videos! You can also check my video about the complete process of orchestrating a piano piece, it's quite lengthy but it goes over a lot of things! And sure, you can send me your piano excerpt and I might do a video in the near future, maybe I could make a call for multiple piano reductions and orchestral mockups and make reviews! @@adavidcompo I'll send it over asap. Just a heads up, like I stated before, my notation skills aren't too well so I'm gonna just send a piano sketch wav file if thats alright with you? Notation would just be embarrassing to us both lol
Thanks a lot! You’re in luck because I’m releasing a video this week of a full piano to orchestration process! It’s gonna be a lengthy and detailed one, hope this can be a good complement to this video !
Nice but showing Ravel pavane piano score with another music in background is painful for my brain cause I hear 2 music in the same time I know it’s a commercial rule for RUclipsrs to always have music in background but for musicians it’s a big problem
@jazzhotline Hey thanks for the feedback! I'm actually also super triggered by this kind of thing. In my first couple of videos I'm trying different things regarding having background music or not, having different video lengths and type of content and seeing how the algorithms reacts. I've not necessarily found that my videos using background music were having more attraction, so this is something that I won't be doing by default in the future.
I appreciate the Algorithm for recommending your channel! Your content is truly amazing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I’m glad the algorithm got me such a nice viewer :) thanks a lot !
Cool!! partant pour voir une application dans une vraie pièce ! Super vidéo.
Merci!!!! Ça va se faire éventuellement 😊

@@adavidcompo Also, checking out the video now!! So far, I haven't even noticed the length of the episode. Its super engaging in that way.
Yeah no problem!
Thanks :)
It’s practical and concise advice. Thank you. I subscribed to your channel. Hope that you make and upload such videos more.
Glad you enjoyed!! I’m uploading videos weekly, sometimes more !
Yes, I'd really like to see a video (or maybe one video fro each step?) of you going from a piano piece to full orchestration.
I could definitely do a video for each part, or one big video ! Will be working on this soon.
I'm happy I found your channel , very interesting ideas Thank you 👍🏼
Happy to share! Thanks a lot !

😄
Excellent concepts! Perhaps if illustrated by short sound examples it would be more efficient in understanding in depth of what you propose. Thanks!
Thanks a lot!

I actually just put in online now! Let me know if this helps 🙂
