Mind saying that with our current socialist governments here in Australia and our PM Elbow who is pushing for “the voice” which is for a race based political system we could very soon be an eastern bloc country.

    Another problem with all of these terms is that they ignore regional disparity within nations, e.g. China is a developing country due to its vast relatively poor countryside whilst simultaneously having some of the most economically developed cities on the planet, the Yangtse river area by itself today would constitute the worlds 3rd largest economy behind only the US and the rest of China but it is all still lumped into the developing category. Looking at development using countries as a scale is just overall unhelpful.

    The definition of a country goes with the times. Third world countries became "developing countries" which is a nicer way to say that one is poorer than the ones that "succeeded".
    For all accounts India is a "developing country", although large sections of that nation live in abject poverty, which would bring out the question: "what is it really developing in there"?.
    The confusion is created when the GDP is used to determine how developed a country is. This instrument refers, deceivingly, to the percentage of how much an inhabitant of a nation gets based on the amount of money that nation produces, which in turn it is not real considering how many people are very poor in the USA, the so called richest country in the world, hence view as "THE developed one"
    The same can be applied to Mexico, Argentina, Brasil, Chile and many African countries.
    What escapes any definition is how Haiti is considered by these denominations, though its GDP, based on the exporting of its agricultural products and textiles, is enough to take this country out of their present terrible situation.
    It is all very confusing when it comes to determine categories on nations, since nobody really knows how to pinpoint something so subjective and plagued with self-interests.
    Greetings from Toronto.

    • @aryandixit229
      @aryandixit229 5 месяцев назад +2

      Third world is a derogatory term that delegitimizes the very existence of billions of people as if they don't matter. And whether intentionally or unintentionally, it has spread racism. As far as India is concerned, it is the fastest growing economy in the world and "developing" means that a country is in a more initial stage of its development. Every year, millions of Indians are lifted out of poverty. Any term is fine, but third world is just a misnomer that is used often to demean some people based on race/ethnicity. I always found it to be a cringeworthy term that reeks of entitlement and privelege. All the white-majority countries are clubbed together as first world while all the non-white majority countries are clubbed as third world. For instance, there is nothing poor or undeveloped about countries like the UAE, Oman, Singapore, South Korea, South Africa, yet nobody thinks of these when they think of the first world. On the contrary, countries like Ukraine, Belarus, and Bulgaria can very much be considered "third world", but still they are seen as "first world". Ukraine used to be developed, but now it is not. It seems like "first world" is just a way of saying that race is more important than collective humanity, which I disagree with. All humans are part of one big family given that we all share common descent and this will only lead to a new cold war, which is the last thing our wrld needs.

America has a shrinking middle class just as , surprise surprise, the country gets more and more socialist! You know where the middle class has disappeared ? San Francisco- the only US city I know of with actual Communist party members on the city council ! Don’t try to gaslight people by telling them the middle class doesn’t exist, because people my age and older remember when it not only existed, but contained the majority of Americans .

      @@kostasjezuz4846I believe I did mention middle class in AMERICA but if not that’s who I’m talking about because that’s the country I’m familiar with and if you live here I don’t think it’s hard to define - it’s the people without generational wealth, but who also won’t starve immediately come some devastating disaster the same way the very poor will. It’s working professionals . College or trade school educated individuals who support themselves through work, not investments and property (like the upper class) or government handouts (like the lower class). They are the.backbone of any capitalist nation . In other countries the middle class may be a little harder to distinguish but like I said that is largely in COMMUNIST countries where the middle class is the considered the enemy because their existence and prosperity basically disproves Marx , which is why commies deny that it even exists despite being able to SEE IT for themselves ! If you are American with this idea of the middle class not existing , I’m guessing you’re either a devout Marxist or you live in large left wing city where you don’t get a good feel for middle America . Tell me why it’s a BAD thing that the term “third world” has a negative or derogatory connotation? SHOULDNT IT? I mean there should be a little feeling of shame in being a third world country which should motivate the people of said nation to do whatever possible to get out of that situation and move up to the first world!!! It’s worked for many East Asian countries - a little shame can be a great thing if it’s used for motivational purposes ! I say we keep the term and apply it to nations that let their people starve and deny their people basic human rights in the hopes that the leaders DO feel some shame and try to improve !

      The problem is not that it is derogatory towards the governments, the problem is that it promotes racism against people. Third world makes it seem like the people are from different planets and hence when the people immigrate to so-called first-world countries, they are seen somewhat like aliens. Even if people are born in a so-called first world countries, their "third-world" heritage is used to suggest that only people of European descent deserve more rights. If motivation is the key, then the term developing is far better as it suggests that it is possible to change whereas a world is usually a static entity.

    Developing is an extremely disingenuous term if the country is getting WORSE. If third world offends you, then improve your country. The first world through medicine and food production has IMPROVED the lives of millions in the 3rd world.

      @prasanna8990 Doesn't business imply you value the money LESS than you value the product? And besides, there are many first world innovations that don't involve charges, like the internet. Your communism has been repudiated time after time.
