- Correcting My Ranking Every Pal in Palworld based on how much of A ripoff they are.
Today I will be addressing the controversy around my Palworld Plagiarism Tier list and listening to community feedback, making corrections to where pals should stand on the list.
Palworld was released by pocket pair inc. to an overwhelmingly positive reception in January of 2024, however what is a supposed to be a simple open world survival game parody of Pokemon. However the Pal World quickly became involved in controversy as people began to accuse PocketPair of plagiarizing Pokemon. With some going to far as to even claim that they had stolen assets and models from Game freak and the pokemon company.

There were some placements and justifications I felt were off in the tierlist. But seeing this video has reminded me that: it doesn't really matter.
It's a parody video made to profit off of people being weirdly hyper defensive about their favorite game.

Is this sarcasm? I've been defending palworld, but I've honestly never played it, or watched any palworld content besides this. Was the cow law suit real? Because I was genuinely curious how anyone could sue over that, or even have a trade mark on that design. I was legit wondering if they thought they owned the likeness of all Holstein cattle. 😂
It's kinda easy to take this kind of video seriously, considering that Nintendo and the pokemon company sue for the dumbest things. Not too mention that people have been talking about "Nintendo gonna have a field day with this game" etc. I watched this cause I was genuinely curious if it was as bad as people made it seem. Imo they almost mocked pokemon, some of the color schemes are obviously pokemon, but the design is different enough that pokemon really can't do anything about it. With how much it's been talked about, it's easy for me to believe that people forgot that pokemon doesn't own the entirety of the monster catching genre of games, nor were they the first to do it.

I watched the original tier list and was constantly so annoyed at a lot of the stupid placements but I’ve gotta say you’ve won me over with this video it’s very funny and hits perfectly
Can you put the Reliable PIDF Guard that hangs out at the small settlement near the red forest on the next tier list? He isn’t technically a pal but he deserves the exposure and he’s also probably a rip off of a different security guard. Like a Storm Trooper from the blockbuster film, Star Wars Episode VII: The Last Jedi.

kelpsea is based off of a kelpie, a scottish folklore creature. it doesn’t really look like any pokemon in particular… it’s like, just a basic design of a sea *horse*.
when I say Kelpsea I assumed there was a reference to a Selkie, a mythological seal that can turn into a human. but I will admit its a bit of a stretch. the name rhymes but its probably just kelp and sea and the rhyming is a coincidence.
Unironically now i just wanna see a paper goldfish become a pal, just have a 2d doodlebob lookin dude with Game and Watch animation quality.

After looking at the two images side by side, I can conclude that everyone who said that Arsox looks just like terrakion is either lying, or is looking at it with a clear bias.

Pokémon actually owns the rights to the likeness of any animal that they have made a Pokémon based off of. At least according to the Pokémon D-riders
The plague doctor one is a crow with head feathers that are shaped like the brim and crown of a hat. I wouldn't let that slide even if I do actually like that design.
I'mma be real. The first one where you said Arsox looked like Terrakion. I was like oh no another one of these people. Then quickly it became obvious that this was satire and rather funny. Now I am off to watch the first video.
Dumud is absolutely not "lawsuit territory" because this game was in development before clodsire was released. Clodsire was just a very recently added pokemon. Also the whole "sobble fin" thing is kind of not a good point because it's just a fin with two bumps, not even the same shape.

Both Grintale and Galar Meowth are actually both inspired by the Cheshire Cat from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. You see a lot of Alice in Wonderland related imagery in Japanese pop culture, most recently in the Netflix series, Alice in Borderlands
The issue with Grintale though is that it copied Galarian Meowth’s face 1:1. No one is saying PalWorld can’t make a Cheshire Cat monster (which imo Galarian Meowth is not based on the Cheshire Cat at all, it’s based on Vikings), the issue people have is blatant copying. There’s a million ways to depict “Cheshire Cat smile”
@@charliemacsart Ok, but why would Galarian Meowth not be based on the Cheshire Cat, considering that the Galar region of Sword and Shield was based on the UK, the birthplace of the writer of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll. I'm not sure where you're getting this supposed Viking imagery from.
Japan's lack of fair use policy for copywriting is what's important here; Galar Meowth is already taken from media that is in the public domain. You cannot copywrite anything the belongs in the public domain; which is also the reason why a vast amount of both pokemon and pals are based on ancient folklore or famous works of art from various cultures
What are roman corviknight (felaris) and budget teostra doing in original? (And the blazehowl noct is just budget lunastra)
Univolt still has similar style to Manectric in addition to the Zebstrika electric zebra stuff. Also another one that's a bit unnoticed unless you look at the HAT more is Katress "stealing" the Mismagius hat in color AND design pretty closely.
That cow pal did look suspiciously close to a cow. Someone needs better lawyers if we gonna stop them from using the cow

I was gonna say something in the other video but I do think that grintale is less of a galarian meowth situation as it is a Cheshire cat smile situation now the Cheshire cat is usually depicted with green eyes but the eye formation (single long pupil surrounded by colorful iris) and mouth formation (wide toothy grin persistently plastered on the face) does remind me more of a Cheshire cat than it does a pokemon

I think his main point was asset rip without permission. That's his argument for lawsuit-tier. The Cheshire smile is probably too generic for Nintendo to try and investigate, but who knows with Tendy.
@@nidusxvii3224 I mean not really, in this case the smile and eyes are drawn the exact same, the main difference being the line weight outside of that the angle of the teeth, mouth shape, eye shape and order of eye colors is the same, while not as damning as some it's still a copy of someone else's work when put side by side

I really appreciate you making this video!!! I’m personally loving palworld and think it brings a lot of originality to the table in terms of a good majority of their designs, and it kinda bothers me a bit that some designs are seen as cheap imitations when they’re not. (Ofc there are some ones in desperate need of redesigns, I’m looking at you Verdash)
I personally have a bit of critique still when it comes to Vixy, Nox, Incinceram and Toco toco being in the “toeing the line of legality” haha.
Evee is a fox like creature at the end of the day and on that merit I feel like Vixy and Nox should fall in the “same idea, not a rip off”. I would love to hear more about why you think incineram is basically zororark just because they have 3 fingers and wide wrists and fluffy elbows. And with toco toco, they’re a completely different bird than natu, with very different cultural inspirations; sure they share the same colors but I wouldn’t think it fair for Disney to sue a character that is a rat that wears red and white clothing.

Another one that I found mildly suspicious was Blazehowl in comparison to Teostra. While a fire manticore like creature isn't an entirely unique idea, the added suspicioon comes in when you consider Teostra has an "alternate version" that is just Teostra but blue, Lunastra. Kinda like how Blazehowl Noct is just Blazehowl but blue
Tbh a fire lion isn't anything new but a winged fire lion with horns and a dragon tail is a bit dodgy

In the original tier at the second last row their is a Egyptian bird at 6th no. Which is clearly "INSPIRED"😂 by corviknight
Good for you for rectifying things. But there are still lots that are still in original where they should not be in because the cattiva is clearly a cross between wigglytuff and meowth and the pengullet is piplup and penking (who is original) is a reference for empoleon piplup's final.

Sibelyx is one that belongs in "Original." As much as I can understand the thought for that placement, since the tierlist is going by sueability, Nintendo and the courts only care if the design is 1:1 or dangerously close. Thought process is not something that should be legally accountable.

Being real tho, this "controversy" proved to me alot of pokemon fans don't realize that a good 98% of pokemon that are not real life thing with cartoon face are not original concepts.
Not criticizing OnADock, but it is a bit ironic that while determining “originality” of the Pals, it was decided that basing an entire character’s design on a fairy tale or legend makes it original.
The Pokémon stans that claim Palworld is stealing designs clearly don’t realize Pokémon are mostly if not all either pun gimmicks, also based on legends, or an animal with an element slapped on it
The one guy that looks like terrakion and the fox are extremely close to fakemon designs
Faleris reminds me of corviknight with the armored bird motif
Paladius and Necromus definitely have very similar helmet designs to Armorouge and Ceruledge, along with the idea of a good and evil counterpart
Frostallion is literally just Suicune
First of all just wanted to say I didn't play Palworld nor do I plan to, but the idea of having a good and an evil counterpart really is as old as the world lol
But actually I did think of the Corviknight thing so that's a lawsuit for ya

Okay, I have to sound off here.
Pyrin seems to have a similar idling look to the Kirin from monster hunter, and in the same vein Univolt is similar to the Kirin as well.
Next, Kelpsie has Dratini's face. Like the lifeless eyes and undetailed, mouthless "snout," too similar.
And lastly, Blazehell is DEFINITELY Teostra from monster hunter, it's idle animation and model look way to similar.

Not sure if you've ever heard of Nexomon, but in the game they have a Nexomon called Imburion which arsox looks VERY suspiciously alike

Wumpo is totally just tangrowth that recently met a pair of hedge trimmers, especially "wumpo botan". Pretty sure that's where you felt the familiarity.
I think i realized what Wumpo reminds me of. its very similar to one of the gen 2 beta mons. the fire fox is also VERY similar to beta entei.
Btw, they guy that did the model side-by-side came out and apologized because they edited the dimensions of the models to look closer than they actually are. I know you used that as hard evidence in the original video, and I'm not sure if that sways your opinion.
