    I have the same red trickler that you had and didn't like. I flipped mine over, and filled the base with a mix of sand and wood glue. It was a cheap hack that made a cheap trickler work a ton better. The added weight stabilizes it much better. For my Lee beam scale, it now works great.

    I decap my cases before tumbling too. I set up a 1/16 steel push pin in the chuck of my drill press and have some machines parts that allow my to put a shell holder in a small mill vice. I have to indicate the holder the center of the spindle if I change to a different cartridge. It’s a really fast operation. I do it to keep spent primers out of my house where I do the rest of my reloading. Spent primers are the largest source of lead exposure for reloaders.
    Also, I make paper funnels for my powder, and they work perfectly. They only cost a half sheet of printer paper and you can make them all size and shape to fit each case. I have one for each cartridge I reload. They last at least 1000 rounds.

    I use a lee cutter alot, but I figured out it's easier to put the shell holder lock thing in a vice, and put the cutter in the drill.

    Great informative video. I'm still fairly new to reloading and have watched all of your videos, sometimes 3 and four times. I pretty much have all of the tools you showed and have also upgraded a few of them.

    An old peanut butter or Madon jar is useful too for cleaning brass. I get more use out of those for cleaning brass than my tumbler.

    I’m probably one of the few reloaders that trim pistol cases… the other day I messed up bullet seating wad cutters and applied a crimp on them (I didn’t have a 4-die set).
    It was a pain to get them out but, once I did, there were rings at the mouth of the brass that clearly shown they were worked hard. Since I didn’t want to risk split cases, I trimmed the .357 to .38spl length and removed the over hardened brass.

    Thank you for sharing Gordon's reloading Tool. I am so new to reloading that I have gotten the tools and bullets, but no powder or primers yet. I was wishing I could figure the pressures as opposed to just hoping things work out. Now I will have the confidence to start reloading.

    Love that Lee cutter and lockset trimmer. Trim all, including, and especially the pistol calibers, as when using a roll crimp, your crimp will vary according to the length of the case, the longer the case the harder the die will crimp. A wide variety of crimp (light, medium, hard) willl spread your hits all over the target. Trimmed cases will crimp uniformly and increase accuracy.

    GRT is a great tool, unfortunately Gordon passed away earlier this year and for the time being it seems very difficult to continue his development. There is a strong community behind the project, but for several reasons (can be found on the website), it takes some time to get behind the programming of this very personal project.

    100% agree with the Lyman tool, so much nicer then some of the really cheap ones, and has a nice, comfortable handle.

    Regarding bullet pullers, I would never be without my RCBS collet style puller. BUT.....sometimes there is not enough bullet shank protruding from the case to get a grip on. That's why I also have an inertia style puller. I would add the Lee Universal Expander die to the list. This die simply puts a bell on the mouth of the case. Sometimes it is beneficial to not use an expander. Then you need a bell on the mouth to help seat the bullet and maintain bullet concentricity. It will help with extra bullet grip for a better powder burn. Try it on AR ammo, especially with flat-base bullets, and you will be a believer.

    For a free diy trickler that works well simply make an mdf stand and drill a hole at a slight downward angle through it the same diameter as an empty 308 case or similar. You half fill the case with powder and feed it through the hole. Turn the back of the case head and hey presto you have a great little trickler that can do single kernels. GRT is a fantastic tool to use. It tends to underestimate pressures and mv unless you calibrate it using an mv for at least one specific load.

    Yeah man those primer pocket go/no go gouges are worth every penny... I've been looking at those funnels with the long drop tubes but I haven't made the purchase yet. That's pretty crazy that it makes that much of a difference definitely going to check them out now. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

      Federal cases are the only brass that gets loose primer pockets. I avoid them or junk them after 2 loadings.

    • @mattfleming86
      @mattfleming86 2 года назад +1

      A drop funnel is almost a requirement with Varget or other high-fill powders.
      And ANY primer pocket will go out if your loads are on the upper end.

    Great stuff!
    The 8" iGaging calipers are great for checking CBTO on longer cartridges, much easier than a 6"
    The Lyman chamfer/deburr is a great tool, and is easy on the hands. Beats the cheap steel units easily
    The SAC bushings, which you turned me onto, have been very good in both my Redding and Hornady bushing dies
    The RCBS crimp cutters do an excellent job and are really easy to use, and just seem less "grabby" on brass

    9:35 Kinetic Bullet Pullers -- If you reload plastic tipped precision bullets such as ELD-Match, select a hammer that has a piece of dense foam at the end. Otherwise the tip can be damaged when the bullet is released. If you look closely, you'll see the blue Frankford Arsenal version does, but the orange Lyman hammer does not.

      @@BoltActionReloading Yeah... that is a super video. I have some new Starline brass to fireform, and will likely get SAC for that batch. I must have been confused when I contacted SAC in April to ask if they were adding 223 sizes. They said "we are not adding sizes" and I took that to mean "no 223", when it appears to have been there all along. Love the channel. Thanks !

    • @parkerkarelrg5136
      @parkerkarelrg5136 2 года назад +2

      get old ones as well if you are loading for older cartridges, it is a major pain when a newer manual skimps out on them and gives you only 1 or 2 loads for a cartridge (such as .32 S & W or .300 SAV). This is also useful if you happen to acquire some new-old stock powder that isn't made anymore.

    Weights? Pull out a variety of jacketed bullets and when you have an opportunity weigh them on a scale that you trust and write down the weights. Now you have your own cheap weights.
    On the other hand that Lyman deburring tool looks good and looks like it's worthwhile for that job.

    For the check weights, you don't need to spend that much. A new US nickel weighs 5 grams, or 77.1 grains, and a new dime is 35.0 grains. Keep the same two coins with your scale and it costs fifteen cents.

      Gordons in free. There are some other details of course. Gordon's can record all kinds of results and such. If you sign up for the discord there is a lot to learn. Just ask yourself how deep you want to go. Unfortunately its creator passed away, I am hoping that someone will be able to take it over. Charlie on Discord can answer just about anything that you can ask.
