Bought this in 2015 and did multiple wild camping with this without any problem. Great tent. Still going strong.

Picked it up in a charity shop and it's been incredible - very stable and waterproof. Vango don't get the credit they deserve, not being one of the fashionable names in tents and more often associated with the D of E end of the market but this has to be one of the best tents I've owned for three season backpacking, It is quick and easy to put up in foul weather, has a massive porch for gear and foul weather cooking and is way way cheaper than some competitor brands. It might be 500g heavier than its competitors but is about 25 % of the price and to my mind, just as tough. Highly recommended kit for British conditions.

For me, it's the second best budget tent Ive ever seen.
If Vango had put a side entrance in this tent and god only knows it's about time they did..... loose that bloody orange they're so glued too and made the inner the same colour as the outer, then I'd have it.
Until they do, I'm sticking with my Coleman Avior X2 that I've used for well over a decade now.
I do love this tent though.
It's sooooo close to perfect for me I could cry.
Oh well... guess I'll keep on looking and hoping.
(At 57, my time for finding perfection is running short now. But isn't that every campers constant never ending gripe lol)

I've had one for a while and it is pretty good. I wanted something lighter, so I donated it to my brother's scout troop to encourage some of the youngsters into wild camping. Should keep them well housed and is big enough for two scouts.

Thanks for a really good review .
I would have bought one had it been free standing.

Thanks for the review. Looks like a really solid tent (though I hate having a ground sheet in the vestibule area because it gets muddy instantly). Deal breaker for me is that it's just too heavy. Would never get it for that reason alone.

The interior with that rear vertical wall supported by the pole looks like a plus to me that makes it roomy and would maybe mitigate snow loading or strong winds pressing the fly down on the inner if properly pitched. Looks like a good tent at a good price.

Great tent review Chris, was impressed by the bird song in your garden. Good to see a professional camper having inserted his tent pegs at 45 degree angle. On my ML assessment a great deal of how you pitched your tent could certainly help to gaining a pass. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

    • @MCMOutdoors
      @MCMOutdoors  4 года назад

It's a great tent Mike, I'd recommend it for beginners. Good observation re the tent pegs, though with the lawn being as dry as it is - I could have done with a hammer drill to get them in! Lots of people get caught up in what the tent can cope with in terms of weather, when in reality - good site selection will enable even budget tents to keep you safe when the weather turns.
      ATB 🏕️👍

Hi Chris, I've just received my Tempest 200 pro 1 day ago but haven't had time to set it up yet but cant wait now. I find the Tempest to be a great tent, have mine for 4 years, it was a ‘toss up’ between a Banshee 200 and this, best choice, really wanted it for pack size to fit on my motorcycle for European tours and here in the UK, i’m 6’ 2” and it’s no problem, I did buy the Tempest Footprint for extra peace of mind in case of wild camping. overall very happy, Excellent vid Chris, great commentary and no loud music, perfect. thanks for sharing 👍😃

Love this tent. We bought one about 8 years ago for walking Hadrians Wall. Yes ok for me and the wife, but not sure about me and a mate. TBS system works a treat (you can also hang wet socks to dry lol). We had TBS on a larger Vango tent and after a very windy night on a campsite in Weymouth, we were the only ones still standing (there were wrecked tents everywhere). Still have this tent, just need an excuse to use it.

Great review👍. Vango backpacking tents are fantastic starter tents,I bet most all U.K. folk start out wildcamping with one of their tents. And the T.B.S. System is really practical,I'm surprised more companies haven't adopted similar systems?. And yes,I've a vango tent too.My first backpacking tent ever(vango nova 200). The company's based in Glasgow,Scotland in a district known as Govan! Which unsurprisingly is an anagram of........yes.....Vango!!. Atb a subscriber 👍

*For me the best budget and quality will always be Military Surplus*
    - Canvas tents which are much more durable and easier to repair if needed.
    - For as little as £25 / £35 and up to £50 from sites like Military Mart
    - Doesnt cook you when the sun rises in the morning
    - Keeps light down so you are not seen (from tent lighting internally) AND you can sleep in (the sun shine doesn't wake you)
    - thicker sound when raining - eaier to sleep
    - Stronger against wind
-Finally and the most important to me - synthetic tarps and tents Reflect light just way too much and are a dead give away from even long distances, thereby eliminating the aspect of wild camping and LNT - if you have reflective materials like polyester and nylon then you may as well go ahead and have a 5 foot fire that night.
Other than that, thanks man for the video, if I ever wanted to try out a synthetic tent this one looks the one to go for
    Cheers

I tend to use a Zephyros 1 for most wild camp outings now to save a bit of pack weight, but have had many great nights in the Vango Tempest 200, and appreciate the extra room :-) it will be getting out to the peak dist. again soon. for the money it's an awesome, well thought out tent. Hi Chris, I am a huge Vango fanboy and have had a number of Vango and F10 tents in my time. Used to be insane value for money but can't help noticing that the quality has dipped a tiny bit with more recent models, so I hope that's just a glitch. Lightwave tents are pretty high quality and I have a few of them also. Recently bit the bullet and bought the ultimate "Marmite tent" - namely the TN laser comp 1. Feels very very flimsy, but if we ever get out of lockdown, we'll see how it rolls. On some big Scottish days out, i'm gravitating towards hooped bivys. Getting to old for lugging stuff. ATB mate, stay safe.

    • @MCMOutdoors
      @MCMOutdoors  4 года назад +1

Hi mate, yeah - I've heard reports that newer models aren't up to the same standards... I know my original Equinox 250 was built like a tank and it's still going strong now, I gave it to Walshy.
I agree with you re lighter weight - its much more pleasant walking up with lighter gear, but hey when we add wine and craft beer, it negates any light weight tent that money can buy.
Hope you get out soon with your new gear pal - ATB 👍

I had a tunnel tent 30 years ago and used to take the two lads camping and I always loved that type of tent. To be honest, we always car camped, so weight and size were not issues and in those days it was quite a heavy tent. Love the all in one pitch, no wet inner and the set up was surprisingly easy, not as I remember that type of tent at all. Looked so roomy and great to be able to separate sleeping area and cooking porch with the benefit of top opening vent allowing steam to escape which you say dry. It looks a great tent and very well demonstrated, cheers Alan

I have just bought two Vango tents at bargain prices. I got a Torridon 200 and a Nemesis 300 as I suspect we'll all be doing camping holidays this year. Can't see my wife and daughter wanting to cram in to my little one person tent or bivvy bag so bought the Vango's to enable us to hopefully holiday this year.. Both are 4 season tents so I'll probably use them for some winter camping also.

Enjoyed the video watched it as just spent my 2nd year cycle touring with a Bergaus Peak pro 1 man tent, which never let me down, but with 4 panniers, now last year only 2 it was just too small for all the equipment. The Bergaus is also a 2part tent so constantly having to realign the inner and outer which is pretty easy but when your being eaten alive by midges it is something you do not need. The porch is ideal for all my gear and it is something I think is essential. like you I make You Tube videos so I carry a lot of electronics which have to be inside the tent, so a very small spaced tent just became far to tight but i can store them in the porch with this. Cooking in the porch is a also ideal, not just for rain but when them midgies are out means you are not restricted to cooking earlier before they are out in force. It seems a great tent although I would prefer something higher but cycle touring really can restrict options as I now run with 4 panniers and even though I am weight conscience it is quite a load, something will be dropped but this tent will make life on the road so much easier, more room in the tent for me, with all my gear secure in a nice dry porch

Cracking tent Chris and more than enough for most wild campers. I had a Banshee for a few years and never had any issues with it. I sold it for the same price I bought it for and had many great nights out. It’s high winds that are the real issue and that’s why I went for the Soulo in the end, helped by your detailed review. I guess that most people won’t go out all through the year though so this tent is a great choice. I hope you are well mate. Keep safe, ATB Jiffy 👍🏻

Thanks for watching mate. Walshy has the Banshee and gets on well with his. I've had the Tempest up in some pretty foul weather and it has been okay. Hi Chris, I've always found Vango to be great quality, for good prices so it's no surprise this has lasted a long time. If i can pint you also in the direction of the Flytop, you can pick them up for approx £80 (i got mine from ali express) and it's incredible. So of you ever want to try a different tent, it's worth a try. Thanks for the video, hopefully back out wild camping soon!

Great review mate on this tent.. I had bought a halfords 20quid special with porch for a future planned wild camp up at Red Tarn with my teenage son but now I am thinking I would be better in one of these. Bushman and Blue latest video brought me here. I wonder if this Vango tent would stand up to the latest trip you did at Red Screes. That looked horrendous weather. After seeing this review I am tempted to get one of these rather than test the halfords one up there. 🤔

I've been in one in an absolutely TORRENTIAL downpour that lasted for hours and was dry as a bone. The bottom of the inner is like a bathtub (but in reverse, if you see what I mean!).

I bought a trespass battuta 2 person about a month ago, cracking little tent! One that's gone well under the radar I reckon, I proper trawled the internet for the best value lightweight trekking tent I could find. Weighs bang on 2k with the crappy steel wire pegs they send with it, so can be quite a lot less with ali ones. It's 3,000 hh so should cope with most of what the elements throw at it (only bought for 3 season anyway)
It's got got 2 doors and I can sit up in it with 4 inch to spare and I'm a 6 footer.
Only had it set up on some spare land locally and not properly used yet but so far I'm well impressed.. . Even more so by the price....half bat direct from trespass, should've been £140, got for 70 notes!! Happy camper 😀 I'm taking it out in the field on a high level 2 nighter as soon as is practicable, will let you know my verdict after that.
      Thanks for reading, John.
