    My parents had brought up a service dog multiple times starting 3rd grade. I have multiple disabilities qualified for one. 3rd, fifth freshman- postgrad of high school they brought it up. I was 18 at my senior year and when they brought it up I still said no but kept it in my head. I brought it up to my dad last summer after losing my mom and he was happy and I think relieved I did. So we’re looking into that after the holidays. I’m sticking with a program because I have enough trouble learning things, I don’t need to teach!

    I have a service dog corgi. One thing I don’t like about having a corgi is that so many people just come up to her trying to pet her. It literally says on her vest no look no touch no eye contact like 4 times on he vest. I think because she isn’t the “standard” service dog people think they can just approach her.

      Since a corgie is smaller does it effect training at all? Like when they have to help force you to stop something or help with thing in that way? I’m researching and have been wondering about this

    One thing I will add, is yes a dog has to fit the temperament of a SD. Some places who breed dogs to temperament testing on their puppies to better home them. Even with that dogs will have quirks, it’s rare to have a perfect dog without some odd quirk. As long as their quirk doesn’t affect their work or safety and you are okay with maybe doing one or two things differently then it’s okay to have a quirk in a dog. For example my SDiT is closer to the timid side, there is a lot more emphasis on desensitization. Even now he still sometimes is unsure of things, so throughout his life most likely there will be a few random things here and there we will have to ‘checkout’ for him to learn it’s okay. And that is something that personally have no problem doing, but that might not work for everyone. He loves his job, but I like to remind people if not everyone can be a neurosurgeon; not every dog can be a service dog. Don’t force them to be something they don’t want. Love the video~

    I'm scared that my parents and psychologist won't think I'm "disabled enough"
    I'm autistic and have anxiety, and experience so many things a service dog could help/prevent (meltdowns, panic attacks, fainting, social anxiety, self-harm, overwhelming stimulation, getting ready on time, anger issues, etc) and I think one would be right for me. Its already been proven that soft stuffed animals and my cat at home calm me down - but none of those can do tasks and actual things to help (DPT, crowd control, alerts, etc). But because I've lived 15 years without a service dog, I'm scared they're going to disapprove of it. I only did get diagnosed at 13 so I guess I have that to blame.

      As a person that has Meltdowns,Anxiety, Social anxiety,Overwhelming situations, Anger issues and getting ready on time I have a question.
      Question: Did you ask your parents yet? If you did can you tell me how you did tell them?
      because I think it would be a good idea for one because I get nervous so easily it’s crazy when I do it’s because of stressing,Scared of asking/Talking, Scared of doing thing’s,Scared of going places and more. So I was just wondering if you can give me an idea.

      hi! i'm sorry you are having to deal with this. i think i will make a video about talking to your parents regarding therapy, medication and service dogs. i've heard from quite a few people telling me that they are having issues with their parents. i hope that will help you. :)

      I feel for you, my parents are uncomfortable talking about my illnesses with me because in their eyes I will never be disabled, they don’t understand how inclusive the word disability is. ☹️
      I plan on moving away in a few years (I am 20 and am getting ready to leave for nursing assignments, currently working as an assistant)
      the best thing you can do is find ways to go slow and mitigate what causes the issues you are experiencing until you can get the treatments 😊

    sorry for commenting on an old video, but I'm being homeschooled this year and starting high school next year. I'm getting a puppy in December to owner train and I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to bring her to school before she is fully trained. I'm going to bring it up with my psychiatrist but what would you recommend??

    • @wesli3950
      @wesli3950 3 года назад +2

      So, every state has different laws on if a SDiT has PA rights. Search those up, and if your state DOES allow it, it’s your choice on when you think your pup is ready! :)

    does fainting count as a disability if doctors can't figure out why it keeps happening? i can't get anything done at my doctor's office because their computer system has a problem with two people having the same initials, last name, address, doctor, ect. I have to get physical copies of all lab requests/orders and even then sometimes i have to refill all my information and redo all the paperwork as if i'm a new patient. so getting a diagnosis is difficult. even though I've had this problem for 6+ years now

    • @elio9973
      @elio9973 2 года назад

      I'm super new to this so please take this with a grain of salt. There's a good chance that if its an unknown cause but is generally a daily struggle and risk (not necessarily every day fainting but still impacts you and is a risk), then with a doctor's consideration it could be a disability.
      Since it's documented for a long period, with many options already tried a Service dog would definitely be on the table.
