If there was ever any bass that relieved my dingwall GAS, and replaced it with another it's this, though that 5 string dingwall D-Rock is calling my name too.
I had my eyes set on this asa i saw it online. It's perfect for me, i love seafoam green, i love headless basses, i love fanned frets. Can't wait to save up and get one!
Same here dude!!! This isn’t a plug or anything but Sweetwater.com does a three payment system and they are not getting getting the basses till October so you may be able to get one! That’s what I’m doing
I just purchased one ...and I was blown away , I have a Warrick $$ 4string that can't even touch this bass in every aspect ! It was $2,600 dollars ! It's quick , slick and fast effortless to play . I personally like the Bartolini H2 pickups ! The EQ ... WOW so amazing and the look is just classic in my opinion ! If you want a nasty 5 string bass ...this is the One !!
Patrick Hunter, I just ordered mine from sweetwater in Pearl White Matte :-) Got them to PLEK it, install a Graphtech nut, and Aguilar DCB pickups. This thing is going to an absolute monster :-) I should have it in 2 weeks I really love your channel. :-)
Nordstrand pickups sound fantastic! I have ordered a ehb1505ms (tropical seafloor flat) and I can’t wait to get it and play on it! Really gorgeous bass’n
The Barts in the midrange Ibanez basses actually sound awesome, but the preamps kind of suck. I swapped the preamp in my BTB686SC for an Audere 4-band pre, and it was a night and day difference.
I went to the Nordstrand web site and we can get the same pickup set as the higher end model for $260 + shipping. The high end EHBMS runs $1700 the solid color model runs $1250. So you could put in the Nordstrand and still save $200 over the expensive version if the solid color is more to your liking. I'm leaning towards a basic black one myself but still mulling it over till my income tax check arrives!
Warning: bart ramblings below 🤣 The Bartolini pickup issue is a well discussed one amongst Soundgear and Lakeland owners. Both 44-01 and mid range soundgears came with mk1 pickups AND preamp (Cort used these electronics on some models as well). The mk1 was a split-coil by design, unlike the BH2 which is a dual-coil design and specific to Ibanez. Lots of people don’t like the mk1s because they sounded kinda thin and plasticy and not full or beefy or thick, which I can still detect a little of that in the Bh2 but they’re improved for sure. The problem was NOT the mk1 pickups however , the problem WAS the mk1-preamp; it is just not very good. I upgraded the preamp in my sr900 to an Aguilar OBP-3 and the mk1 pickups sound way better, like it’s shocking how amazing the difference is. The pickups really weren’t that bad, just needed a better pre. Now the Ibanez vari-mid EQ is a throw back to the prestige models of the 2000s, I had one on my SR1006. They’re better than the mk1 pre but I upgraded that bass to an Aguilar preamp as well and again a world of difference in tone. I’d say if you were ever curious, scrap the vari-mid and swap a different pre-amp and see if you don’t like the pickups more; if not you can just switch back 👍
It sounds great, especially when you enable distortion and playing with pick. Best distorted bass sound I've ever heard. It seems like Bartolini version sounds great when you play hard even without distortion.
curious your thoughts what neck seems thinner a Dingwall Combustion or that Ibanez Im a lefty so i dont really get to see them its always special order but I like thin necks
This big question is, any neck dive? I'm about to sell an amazing USA G&L of mine because of that. I hate to see it go, but I can't deal with any pressure on my shoulder anymore.
I really wanted a shorter scale fan fret bass. For me the important thing is to shorten the scale of the G string. 34" is too long and tight for a good sound imho.
Regarding the B string, is it that on this bass the string would be too floppy if I tune it low, given that it's only a single inch more than a typical bass?
I have the SDFF 805 which has a 34" to 35.5" fan. My low B sounds great. (Tuning to A isn't as good, but still better than any trad fret system I've played.) Also has Barts for pickups. Sound fantastic, I've always love their sound whether passive or active. Though with my Ibanez I prefer the Passive mode, just a personal preference.
Great review. Definitely don't need another 5-string bass, but quite tempted by the EHB1506MS 6-string. I've found some Bartolinis are great (love the 59CBJD and the P45CBC), others not so amazing.
Hey Patrick! How was the fit and finish on your EHB1005 when you first got it? I’ve heard and read several reviews and comments where owners were saying the workmanship was shoddy; like rough fret edges, poorly fitted neck, improper sanding around the bridge.
@patrick huter I have a chance to get this one for about 900€ new or the LTD b1004 MS same price range (used), same pickup but 4 strings with a 36"scale (longer than Ibanez), which would you recommend?
I think the more you look at it the headless horseman is the wave of the future and so is 37/34 inch scale or fan fret as they call it. I like a headstock, and it adds character.
How would you compare this to a Dingwall ng2? Looking at a secondhand ng2 for around the same price as one of these new. Worth getting the EHB, or stick with the tried and tested Dingwall? Keep in mind, our band plays in Drop G (whole step down, drop the A to the G). Would love your professional opinion on this.
MK-1 are possible the best of the non-high end pickups. Ive done a lot of recording with an SR505 with Mk1's and they are epic. Makes me wanna check out the SR5005 Prestige
Love this bass so much, Sweetwater will have more coming in March and I can’t wait for mine to come in. Any chance you can post tabs for what you played @2:52, that was a killer bass line.
I actually own this bass and I think it is fine with bart PUs. But mine has some problem with the build quality and detail that I won't love it much. Personally I think my BTB7 do better on same price range.
Did you put a heavier gauge strings on yours ? I don't have a Ibanez bass yet. I have another bass that I put Light gauge on mine. If I Were to play that hard on mine, my strings might break., LOL
It's like everything I don't like in a bass rolled into one: headless, more than four strings, fanned frets, matte finish. Glad you're enjoying it though. And it does sound good.
Awesome demo, patrick. that bass sounds pretty cool. I like ibanez basses and I like bartolini pickups. I plan to mod my basses with bartolini pickups and their preamp. other than that, killer sounding bass. especially with distortion. \m/ I plan to get a new bass sometime this year. it'll most likely be my favorite bass of 2020.
I recently got one of these after upgrading from a beginner bass. I’m primarily a guitar player and I’m looking to build a pedalboard. With this bass do you think that you still would need a DI pedal?
those are actually korean batolinis as the lakland's mk1 bartolinis.. americans bartolinis sounds thicker I think.. you should also give a try to Mazzarino's pickups if you can, you won`t regret!
The controversy over the 35 inch scale length comes from the fact that people want to tune down like nolly from periphery does the 37 inch scale is a good way to go about it but all the basses that have it are to expensive for some of us
Patrick have you never played and Ibanez BTB before? The upper horn shape, eq and locking input jack are all pretty similar features, some of which you've stated you've never experienced. Check out a BTB and let us know what you think.
Saw the EHB at NAMM but didn’t get a chance to play it 😩 however I did get to play another headless bass: the Kiesel Thanos; I just couldn’t put it down lol great video Patrick 🤘
The hard Case They sent that I ordered... they said is the Fit is NOT a good fit. What are some Other Options? This isn't A Good Suggestion from Ibanez; WB250C Case
Someone please help me . I seriously am in need of so many suggestions . I like this version and the 1500 version as well . And when other bass in this price range comes it’s the sterling ray 34 hh for me . I am more into progressive music . What bass should I go for please help .
WE NEED MORE MATTE FINISHES, Y'ALL. WHO AGREES?!?!
Idk
Definitely!!!!
If the cost will be cut down for matte finishes, then yes please
I believe the problem is that they go shiny in the areas that comes into contact with your forearm and hands and look really ugly
@@LukeBass1000 perhaps true, not sure how much it would come out on seafoam which is the color I love...
I sense Ibanez is trying to compete with Strandberg or Dingwall... GOOD! More competition, better prices!!
And also it's so good to see a big manufacturer embracing the new trends
Oh dude, 100%!
The neck is sooooooo much better than the dingwall too
If there was ever any bass that relieved my dingwall GAS, and replaced it with another it's this, though that 5 string dingwall D-Rock is calling my name too.
Not to forget Le Fay basses. They are building headless basses since the late 80'ies !
I had my eyes set on this asa i saw it online. It's perfect for me, i love seafoam green, i love headless basses, i love fanned frets. Can't wait to save up and get one!
Gaaahhh, it looks so cool and sounds beautifully *cries in poor
Same, this is just a loaner so I have to send it back😭
@@patrickhunter that's even worse 😭

I pre ordered the EHB1506MS can't wait to get it!
Have you gotten it yet?!
There's no reason anymore to pick a Strandberg or Kiesel over these. Great move by Ibanez.
Patrick Hunter, I just ordered mine from sweetwater in Pearl White Matte :-) Got them to PLEK it, install a Graphtech nut, and Aguilar DCB pickups. This thing is going to an absolute monster :-) I should have it in 2 weeks
I really love your channel. :-)
@Greg Hunter: The Pearl white is a four string though, and no fan frets, correct ?
Nordstrand pickups sound fantastic!
I have ordered a ehb1505ms (tropical seafloor flat) and I can’t wait to get it and play on it!
Really gorgeous bass’n
The Tropical Seafloor is one of Ibanez's best finishes ever.
I wish it was on an AZ honestly
I would kill for a 4-string fan-fret version of that bass
+1
I have a feeling these will be the next ng2, in that every metal band you see will be playing one
I would be so happy if Ibanez worked more on these unique designs instead of the same boring SR basses
Hopefully this is just the beginning for new and out there designs!
They have some quite unique designs out right now other than SR like the BTB, EHB, and the AFR
Even though all the SRs look almost all the same , the higher end models are awesome (imo)
The boring SR series basses are incredible value for badsists on a budget and they fund the R&D for exciting stuff.
I'd pop a set of Nordstrand pickups in for sure. I've never liked Bart's personally.
The Barts in the midrange Ibanez basses actually sound awesome, but the preamps kind of suck. I swapped the preamp in my BTB686SC for an Audere 4-band pre, and it was a night and day difference.
A set of nordstrand's big singles would work magic on this bass. Stock pickups are very dark and muddy sounding.
Check out the higher end model, it comes with Nordstrand Big Splits
@@Mr.Goldbar I know, and it sounds awesome. But I like how this model looks, I'm not much into exotic wood tops

Just purchased on your recommendation.
Headless look so much better on basses. And this bass looks and sounds great. It looks so comfortable! It needs a guitar equivalent!
It sounds great, especially when you enable distortion and playing with pick. Best distorted bass sound I've ever heard. It seems like Bartolini version sounds great when you play hard even without distortion.
i have been torn with this Bas and the srm805..But think after seeing your passion for this i will bw making a purchase! thank you! great playing btw
Dude, thank you so much for this video!!! By far the best video for this bass! Ahhh man, I’m getting this for sure!!!
I'd love to see you do a shootout between this and a Dingwall NG2 5 string.
I think I'm going get this bass in the pearl white - thanks for the great review!
Looks and sounds great, especially for the price. The sound of the bass is a little reminiscent of the Kubicki Xfactor. Great show. Thanks man.
great honest video on this bass many thanks
Shredding the opening nice job
I have a 1506 preordered. Can hardly wait!!
I NEED this bass! Love the review man!
curious your thoughts what neck seems thinner a Dingwall Combustion or that Ibanez Im a lefty so i dont really get to see them its always special order but I like thin necks
It’s a shame you didn’t check out the srff806 from a few years ago. It set the pace for Ibanez’ multiscale line and is amazing, I love mine to death
I'd love that fiver in matte black with a high C string... oh yes.
This big question is, any neck dive? I'm about to sell an amazing USA G&L of mine because of that. I hate to see it go, but I can't deal with any pressure on my shoulder anymore.

Headless basses aren't for me.. UNTIL NOW. I'd 100% buy that.
Great playing around 3 minutes dude!
Regarding the B string, is it that on this bass the string would be too floppy if I tune it low, given that it's only a single inch more than a typical bass?
I usually don't like basswood that much but this combination of a roasted maple neck + stainless steel frets and the basswood body works very well.
Excellent review!!! Appreciate it!
I got a 1505ms as a replacement for a bad neck btb. I fucking love this thing. So easy to play
Dude I want one of these sooo bad!! Such an epic tone man!!!🤘🤘🤘
I just got one. This bass is fantastic.
This tone is f*ckin KILLER!!! (from intro)
How many pounds it weighs?

I wonder if that bass requires double ball ended strings or if it uses the new system that works with regular single ball ended strings?
Regular strings, friend!
Thank you. This is the first answer that I have seen on this question. No other vid I watched answered this important question.
This bass really caught my eye, right out of the gate!!....I mean the model group. And I'm normally a Carvin guy.
You and me both, I never used to like headless basses till I found this one but I love this, I just don't feel like spending that much money on a bass
Might get the EHB1265MS. Seems like an upgrade of this bass in terms of body and fretboard.
I’m Gunna be honest, that’s a really round sounding bass
Worth noting that the VariMid EQ has been a thing on Ibanez high end basses for at least 23 years. Might have been mentioned elsewhere.
Sorry I am new and I think you uses effects, does this close sound like jazz? precision? or musicman? or combination of them all ? :)
Does it always sound clicky clacky fuzzy?
Awsome ! Thanks.

I would go for the dingwall. I cant seem to get a good modern metal tone with bartolini for low tuning. Again, thats just my personal taste tho
@@gracefulgiant8364 went with the ng2 4 string. Super happy with it

Great review. One thing though: MK1 aren't real Bartolini - it's a licenced product, and they were never famous for good sound :).

What's the point of having a headless bass? Are there any ergonomic benefits to it, or is it simply for looks?
It makes the bass lighter and balances better on a strap. Also means you can use a smaller case for transport.
How does it hang when you strap it on and stand up and play?
I want one NOW
I dig the look of a headless bass. Just wish there was a adaptor to use it with my Roadie bass automatic tuner.
Is there a medium gauge string that is up from light gauge ?
A set of Nordstrands like the higher end EHB, Sounds like a winning work horse!!
