    There is something so wonderfully Zen about this!
    All sports seek to maximize results while minimizing efforts. This coach wonderfully demonstrates how even a flick of the wrist (or not doing so) creates better efficiency.

    Dear Mr. Lee,
    You are the best coach on RUclips...i have learned a lot from you....I have a request ....can you make one video on " How to deal with slow shuttles".....i have lost matches because i find it difficult to deal with slower shuttles...what tips are good to handle them ...heavier rackets? to faster drives..?..i don't know you are the best to advise.
    Thanks .

    • @coachingbadminton
      @coachingbadminton  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you for your kind comment and I am most pleased to know. Using too slow shuttlecock is not good.
      1. You should change after ask your opponent if he agree. Or you can make the shuttlecock faster by bend the feather in if your opponent agree.
      2. If you have to use it what ever reason then you have to make your base near to the net and do long and deep service and waiting for opponent short clear or drop shot and kill it.
      3. Who ever hit short clear will loose. Lee

    Coach lee, I want to ask what is the common step one between all the shots you can play at the net? I mean what it looks like, I think it will greatly help deception if all the shots have a common step one. As in the "ready"
    If I fail to make you understand, most of the overhead shots can be played with common step one posture - clear, smash and drop have the same ready, is there one for net? May be there is a video you can link me to?

  • @HaiderAli-ee5kg
    @HaiderAli-ee5kg 7 лет назад

    Sir, the first way that you mentioned wrong is the pronation way. The wrist must not be moving to much at hitting the cross net shot. But in terms of deception I hold the racket faced upward and then hit cross court net shot because I am addressing my opponent that I may hit to the end of the court or any other sides apart from cross net. If I play in that deception terms, the pronation is introduced. Is it a correct way or should I not make deception before hitting cross net?

    Do we hit the shuttle similar way if we get a shot thats very close to net? I believe that playing a cross very close to net will bring your wrist into play too

    • @coachingbadminton
      @coachingbadminton  6 лет назад

      Yes depending on situation you are in, the way you hit will be changed.If you take shuttlecock very close to the net then you need to use more wrist and finger feeling/control. Lee

      When your opponent has option to hit different areas then you should wait until he made a shot.
      Going back to the centre is different depending on what shot you have done and what situation you and your opponent is in. I will make clips for this. Lee

      Anything is possible depending on how much you want it. But you may have to do so much harder and so much more training and if you do it right you may be able to see your self playing top level in late 20s. I have to tell you that it will be hard but I do not say it is not possible. Lee

    To be honest, I'd not completely agree with you here. I agree that using pronation or chopping is wrong (although I've never seen anybody do that^^), but I do not really see, why your way should be more deceptive: The way you are holding the racket (3:49 is a good example), the racket head is already facing to left side, while you are approaching to the shuttle. So your opponent can actually see what you are trying to do. And if you'd like to play a straight net drop instead, you'd have to change your way of holding the racket, so that the head is not facing to the side, meaning it is not the same movement (the way you hold the racket at 5:03 actually looks different to me) and therefore not really deceptive.
    So this is the way my coach teached us: You have to hold the racket grip just with your fingers, so its relatively loose and there is some space between your palm and the racket. The top of the racket is straight facing towards the shuttle, but the racket head is flat (e.g. strings are parallel to the floor) and the racket is facing slightly downwards, so the racket head is a little bit below the wrist. In germany we call it "Pinzettengriff" (you can google it, if you didnt understand my explanation^^) or "Tweezer grip", but I couldnt find a proper translation^^ One key is to change to that grip, while approaching to the shuttle. In order to hit a cross court net drop, you use the power in your fingers (mainly your pinky and ring finger) to push the racket grip towards your palm (thats why its so important to have that space between the handle and your palm, its kind of like a lever) and therefore turn the racket to the side (your hand/forearm automatically turns a bit as well) and push the shuttle cock to the other side. The advantage, is you can also hit a straight net drop (just let the shuttle fly off the string) or a high lift (use the power of your fingers, but dont turn the racket sideways and furthermore use some more power from your forearm) with the same grip. So it's basically the same base movement for different shots, and if you change to that grip while approaching, your opponent can not tell which shoot you are going to hit, before you actually hit it. Since that push coming from your finger is a really small and fast movement, the opponent has very little reaction time.

    • @BlueBanana5000
      @BlueBanana5000 7 лет назад

      That's kinda true, net kill is much much harder with that grip, never really thought about that. But I'd say with Lee's approach in this video, it's not really any different, since your racket/arm should be much higher with strings parallel to the net. Usually you should be able to see if a net kill is possible in the situation, and decide if you're going for a net kill or some kind of net shot/lift and then switch to the appropiate grip (even if you originally wanted to go for a net kill, you can still play a soft push instead).And to be honest: Your net kill does not really has to be deceptive. Even if your opponent knows that you're going for it, he shouldnt be able to block it.
      I just watched the old video, and the grip and posture Lee is showing here, is pretty much what I tried to describe in my comment. (I described it for forehand, but for backhand it's not much different)

    • @wclow8973
      @wclow8973 7 лет назад

      from what i see, every way of grip can be deceptive, as long as the ready action is the same, until the last second. coach lee's way of hitting can be deceptive as the racket head looks like he is going to do a cross net, but at the last second he can make the racket head flat and do a straight net return.
      So i think either way can be deceptive, but i usually do @bluebanana5000 's way.

    • @sunsgambit
      @sunsgambit 7 лет назад

      When I was younger, during a junior county training session, I was lucky enough to have Lee visit us as a guest coach. This method of hitting a cross net is a basic skill which leads on to a more advanced three point deception shot (hold, drop, cross). So whilst you will not be deceptive with this method alone it forms part of a deceptive skill set. It will also be the most consistent method for beginners.
