    It's impressive that I could run almost all these games with a crappy 1MB onboard video chip at the time... It was a different breed of programmers back then, talk about optimization

    • @danielbueno8474
      @danielbueno8474 4 года назад +39

      Exactly. I'm a computer engineering student, and during my first year in college our teachers on a certain subject made us create a videogame, any game of any genre, so I decided to make a super simple Arkanoid clone. Long story short, with a simple Python script and a few sprites, my little 8-bit project weighted more than 60 MB. It made me realize programmers back then were truly wizards by being able to develop software optimized enough to the hardware they had at the time.

      It's also worth mentioning that, back then, 30 FPS was pretty much the standard in any game as far as the performance target goes and that framerate is incredibly easy to achieve even with weak hardware. 60 FPS didn't become a necessity until at least the late 90's or the early 2000's when 3D accelerated cards like the 3DFX Voodoo lineup became widely available and adopted as a standard for 3D graphics. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't recall retro games running on a framerate higher than 30 or 40 at the very least. Again, 60 Fps was more of a novelty rather than the desired target for performance, not to mention that developers in the mid 90's had no choice but to work with the existing hardware anyway.

      Then she had a powerful computer, because Al Unser Jr. Racing on Windows 95 didn't run to well on all computers.

    I remember a game where you're in a hallway of prisons and you have to kill all the guards. It's like doom 95, but the background was very simple. Idk if it's on Win95.

    Does anybody know the name of the computer game where the opponent takes off his head and throws it at you boomerang style? It’s from the 80s-90s. The game also has opponent that will grab you and throw up on you about 5 times before letting you go. There’s also a line in the game that says “one two three kick it!”. It’s a side view game. You fight several guys and when you advance is where you have to fight the guy that throws his head. Does anybody know the name of this game?

    Anyone remember this cartoon styled side scrolling game where you play as either a blue and red chicken or a bird and you can shoot enemies too? I know I’ve seen it at a family friend’s house before but I could never get the name of the title!
    I even remember seeing you going through exit doors with arms that drag you in and teleport you to the next area and also where you hang on to a balloon and you have to make sure you cross over to the next section without falling in the water where you get eaten by a shark who later spits you out!
    It’s a bit like Earthworm Jim anyone know?

      Good question. I did a little research, but unfortunately I cannot figure out which game you mean. I hope some of the other viewers will know!
