Just got commissioned for a big kitchen island for a friend of ours, so this vid couldn't have come at a better time! Will definitely be referencing it during my build. Thanks Mark!
Well done it looks Brilliant, i like the colour and the way those drawers fronts look with that slight bevel on them. I bet your wife is happy with the build, now it's the rest to do and finish off in the kitchen, to make her super happy ha ha ha. Barry (ENG)
Off to a great start on the kitchen. Mine is still waiting to be started :(. Take a look at then Freud LU80R010 10" Ultimate Plywood & Melamine Blade, you won't be disappointed. When you get it, only raise the blade about 1/8"-3/32" above the work piece. This is a full kerf blade which your 220v cabinet saw can handle no problem.
Haha! I've tried to put some unnecessary walnut in the house, but since we have been fixing it up with the intention of selling, my wife doesn't want me to waste and of the the good stuff in here.
Thanks for listening to the podcast! And you're right, definitely and oddball piece - I don't think I could have described it accurately if you gave me a week to write it out.
Nice work Mark! I like the simple construction and the finish turned out great! Good luck on the rest of the renovation and I look forward to more videos on the project.
I don't have a convenient cabinet space to use for a dishwasher. I'm thinking of forming a recessed space through a wall: So that it will protrude into a closet space on the other side of the kitchen wall (about 4 ft. above the floor). But I want to design a heavy duty sliding drawer RAIL to secure the dishwasher ! 👍
looks good, your lucky that the only thing in your house your wife doesn't like is the kitchen, sometimes I think the only thing in my house that my wife doesn't like is me. lol
Haha! Lets be fair here - she didn't like anything in this house until we fixed it. I'm just lucky we got everything else taken care of before she got tired of me.
Very nice construction on this and with it being 3/4 inch plywood with oak veneer it should last a good 25-100 years. Besides the stain, did you do anything else for the finish, like a light coat of poly or something like that? Or do you plan to just oil-soap it to protect it from moisture? Also, did you do anything for the finish on the draws on the insides, sides, and bottoms for protection? BTW, with the age of the house and the look of those 'green' tiles under the carpet, you might want to find out what they were made of before going to town on them. I'm sure you are aware of some of the hazards old flooring can present.
Thanks for the feedback! I did put some fast drying poly on the drawers and on top of the stain. I had the video almost finished before I decided to do that step, so it didn't make the cut - but I'm glad you asked, I should have said something in my conclusion about it. I am definitely cautious about those green tiles on the floor. The plan is to pull up the carpet and put new flooring down on top of the green stuff, that way I don't mess with any potentially hazardous stuff.
Ok I'm not a cabinet/carpenter at all. I put together my hole kitchen and the biggest problem is my dishwasher. It fits and works great but after a few weeks the washer will start to tilt. The anchors in the front hold it in place but the bottom moves in tilting it. What am I missing? All I've ever been told was I haven't leveled it. Can I get some advice?

I'm glad I could help you out Darrick!

With this little piece done we are both antsy to get the rest finished up! If I could just take a week off of work I could get it all done!

Thanks for the tip Tom, that's going to come in really handy!
Super helpful in building a similar piece for my own kitchen renovations. Thanks!
Nice work young man. Looking forward to your kitchen renovation videos,William
Oh man. That is a big project! My hats off to you for taking the time to film it! 👌👊. Looking forward to the next part!
Thanks Anthony! Its slow going when the camera gets thrown into the mix.
Looks great man. I swear kreg is amazing makes life so much easier
Darn right! They have definitely thought of a ton of ways to simplify the process.
Great start for your kitchen remodel, looking forward to many more as you continue this project....looking good
Thanks Gregory!
Wow you have quite the wood shop tools
Looks great! Definitely a step of from the one that was there before (which was such an interesting shape).
Thanks, it certainly was an odd duck. I can see reasoning as to why they did some of the things they did, but there were better options available too.
With jig saw simply use proper method. Up oriented saw from oposite side, down oriented saw from face side. It is simply ... :)
Wow!!! Looks amazing !!!!!
Good job my friend!
Thanks Kevin!
Major improvement over that weird island thing.
Great job👍
Looking good, man! Coulda used some live-edge edge banding though. Or perhaps some UNNECESSARY WALNUT!

Came our great! Your description in the podcast didn’t quite capture how weird the original was...

@uknowulike that I used to think that too! But then I remembered I don't have a wife and I went back to sleep, happy! :) (Funny comment you made!)

drawers look great, should have made another big one to hide that dish washer
It looks good! Why is there carpet in the kitchen? LOL. I mean, I've seen carpet in bathrooms before (it sucks). Thank you for this video.

Nice cabinet, but did you leave any room the plumbing? ❤🌅🌵
What is HDF in cabinets?
Could u tell me what kind of wood u used for everything
What r the measurements for the toe kick area
Hmmm, is this a video from 1977?
what are those Kreg saw guide thing like? the track + circ saw base
I really like mine. It helps make a much straighter, cleaner cut and it's way cheaper than being a dedicated track saw.
Teach me about dishwasher cabinet island?
making a kitchen dishwasher cabinet.
Mariah Goehring hi,
I’ll pay you 150 $ to make this for me without the drover. Just the dishwasher cabinet and the side empty with a door on it
