make your finger into that gun shape thing lick the two fingers then wrap the thread two times around the tip of your pointer finger and use your thumb and pointer finger to just kinda roll it off... it gives you a knot fairly quickly
i've done this maybe 6-7 times. I'm glad to see that i'm not an island onto myself lol. I do recommend however using fishing line to sew any kind of patch on with, holds up in the wash and is alot sturdier!
No kidding, this is a fantastic idea! I have a vintage blue Quicksilver T-shirt that's BEYOND F'ed, however, I've kept it in a box for that last 4 years wondering how I'm going to fix it... Because I love that memory. Well, I'm gonna be buying a denim jacket for it now I think. Thanks!
I just found you and I absolutely love you and your honesty ❤ You muddled your way through brilliantly. I'm rubbish at sewing and stuff but you have give a small amount of hope that maybe I could do it lol 😍
I looked for a video like this for a long time. Thanks for sharing your skills with the world. Your jacket turned out pretty badass. Cheers from Wyoming, USA.
I did a similar thing for the paneling on the front of my vest, but instead of sewing it twice I just sewed it strain on using the first stitch method.
After sewing the edges in, I totally though you were going to use a fusion-type interface fabric to simply iron it onto the jacket. You could still have added the green outline stitching afterward if you like the look of it.
I didn't want to permanently fuse it and get glue on the jacket - all of my patches are hand sewn as I don't know who I will agree with in a few years!
Maybe I missed it, but any tips on reinforcing the fabric? Some shirts are made from really flimsy material that tears easily. I used duct tape to reinforce a Bauhaus patch I sewed to a hoodie, and discovered very quickly that it reflects a *lot* of heat. It's great for when it's cold, but undesirable of you're in a sweaty crowded venue. I was thinking about using rubber glass (one of the materials I have available at the shop), but have no shirts I currently want to sacrifice to the cause, so looking for recommendations.
Hi, I just folded the edges over, pinned them and tacked around them before adding it. That worked for me but you could maybe try bondaweb or heat n bond which hardens when you iron it onto the back of a fabric. I used that when I made little patches !
How has it held up since then? I want a Dio patch for my jacket but I can't find the specific size that I need. So just putting a t-shirt on there would work but I'm worried about how it would hold up and look
Hey, I know this is super late but it's still holding up well! I don't really wear it that often but it is still sturdy and looks good. I never machine washed it because of all the other patches but I feel like on a gentle cycle buttoned up inside out would wash well. I definitely think the folding over of the edges and double sewing helps with the reinforcement!!!
Thanks for the video! This is the way I'd do! Some other mention iron on witch stitch etc yet that seems to complicated. Many a good patch comes from a tshirt! I would rock that back patch looks good!
I know this is an old video, but how well does the shirt stay on the jacket? That's my fear is that it will start peeling off or start stretching and become messed up
I never had any trouble! Because I sewed the shirt separately like with the green stitching that made it into a solid patch and then it attached. I never put it through the washing machine but I imagine if you did you'd need to put the jacket in a pillow case or something to protect the stitching!
@@quokka_yt hi !! Super happy you've found that method 💓 for me I'm so indecisive so I didn't want to get glue marks on my jacket if I fall out of love with a patch so it was a choice to do it this way!
Great band, great custom denim, great tutorial. But by now, isn’t there some kind of appliqué you can spray on the back of the T-shirt fabric to turn it into an iron-on? It’s 2019!
I’m trying to do similar at the moment any tips for sewing onto leather? My sewing skills are reattach a button and use hem tape 😂 can I get away with fabric glue instead?
If you want, but it's neater this way and easier to control. Plus it adds to the look of having lots of contrasting thread as a border! You can do it any way you want, this is just how I did mine
better end knot method I've seen somewhere here on the RUclipss: wrap the end of your thread around the needle three or four times. pull the rolled string down the needle and thread until it forms a perfect thick knot at the end of the thread. ???. Profit!
That's not bad, but I'll do it another way. Firts of all fix it with some "tear Back" embroidery stabilizer or embroidery adhesive on the back of the old band T-shirt, Then with sewing machine try to sew a good boreder and then sew in on the jacket. Before this fixing to the back with embroidery adhesive spray!!!!
I have so much respect for anything DIY. Killer tutorial, love it.

LMFAO SAME
Ditto 😂
I was planning on making a Smiths patch, didn’t think I’d find a video this specific!
great video! i've been searching for a good video to recycle old worn out shirts I refuse to trash haha. going to try this on my jacket soon!
Good luck!
could also make a sick blanket to throw over your bed or sofa. just stitch em all together. i saw a video that did that a few years ago
I know I'm super late to this party, but that stitch that goes perpendicular to the patch's edge is called a whip stitch or overstitch :)
I'm even later in my response, thank you!
I love that you used green thread 💚 also the stitching is amazing! Thank you for sharing 🍀

Your video has helped me massively I used your sewing method and it worked a treat on my A7X back patch on my battle jacket 🙏
This is so helpful and specific bc I lack a sewing machine. Also appreciate the honesty lol
Thanks for the help. I do things slightly different, but I definitely loved your technique.

You’re so awesome Ellen. 😍😍😍🙂
Hey! I wonder if you have a tips for Iron on patch to look vintage/distress/old school looking?? Thank you 🙏🤗♥️

Where did you go?! I like your style of vids! Only 2 tho 🤔🙁
1 of your patches seems to be just a butt, that's pretty dope.
Anyone know what the stitch is called she used when applying the patch I’m doing the exact same thing but I couldn’t really follow how to do it...
You could also save the scraps to make patches and sruff
Thank you 💖
‘Enter from the back’ ‘Pull it out’ I’m dead 😅
It would probably have been easier if you put the adhesive on the back that makes it stick on with an iron
Maybe it might be for someone else, but I don't iron on any of my patches, just sewed so I can take them off if I want without glue residue :)
thanks it was very helpful for me!
Hi!
I found that it's way easier to do all this with iron on tape, such as Heat 'n' Bond, a 10m roll cost me the equivalent of $3 at IKEA.

There is something and I did try it for a felt applique I made but it didn't stick. I ended up having to sew the applique on anyway.
Maybe just back it with interfacing/ stabilizer and then sew it on
Good job

Faux leather mind you I don’t buy real leather unless vintage find :)
