- Kelley Hobart from Alpaca Direct shows you how to knit a perfect Garter Tab with no ridges using the Judy's Magic Cast On knitting technique.
This video assumes you already know Judy's Magic Cast On. If you don't know this technique be sure to watch my video specifically on how to knit Judy's Magic Cast on.
For this video, you modify the technique which is normally knit in the round to instead knit flat for 7 rows. One edge is your three stitches that have been on hold and the other 3 stitches are the ones you are knitting from so you don't need to pick up those stitches resulting in a flatter and smoother garter tab.
The project she used this on was called the Golden Hour Shawl by Andrea Mowry. Here's a link to other tips on making this shawl.

I so want to do this ... will try "again" thank you this is new for me to try.
Thank you for showing this way of how you do the tab your way. Going to give it a try.
That's great to hear. Good luck and let me know how it works for you. :)
I find that using DPNs to do this is so much easier than having to fight the twisting cards. Great video!
This is brilliant! That you so much for doing this tutorial. :-D
Can u use this method to knit a center out round vortex shawl or blanket and how would I go about doing it without the increases going up into a tube like it would for a toe up sock say and keeping it flat but in a circle shape? And the video was very good to understand for a garter tab cast on.
Do you have a kit for the Nightshift shawl?
It's too fast and confusing, I wanna learn how to knit and you're just going way too fast and not explaining. I do know some basics of knitting and some of the motions you're doing are too foreign to me to grasp anything in this vid
Thanks for letting me know. I'm always working to improve my videos. I put in a link to a simpler video to first learn Judy's Magic Cast On as this video assume you already know this technique. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/uzjx-kSlXFA/видео.html
Karen Mullen. Did you know that we can slow down videos now? It's one of the options along with quality, captions, etc. I find it helps when it's a new technique, like this one (and I've been knitting 50+years). The sound is still good except for x0.25 which gets really distorted. Whatever you do, don't give up! There are tons of resources available online, in bookstores, and craft stores. If you have a local yarn shop, I'm sure someone would be happy to help you as well.
maybe you should start with something simpler. I was just fine with the video.
