Thanks for this video. Recently picked up a 09 Q7 3.0 tdi project that had been in a fender bender. It had been sitting for a few years. New hood, bumper, one intercooler and front bumper cover, and it was good as new. But of course, as soon as I drive it, at 2500 rpm, limp mode. Showing a 'upper limit exceeded' oil pressure code. And here we are lol. I'm going for the lower sensor and solenoid first, hoping and praying that the top one is okay. Thanks again!

      No problem.
The top one really isn’t bad if you know how and you have the right tools.
But I would try the bottom one first as it is more exposed to the elements.
Let me know how you get on

Great video mate, very helpful! Had the same problem with my A5…pressure control valve not working…followed this and had it out and replaced in no time. I found that a good squirt of WD40 and then shocking the old switch with a screwdriver and hammer freed the seal and it came out no bother 👌🏽

Good to hear mate 👍🏻 has it solved your issue?

@@AJRepairs yeah, cleared the codes and rescanned with VCDS, revs normal and no limp mode 👌🏽 a garage told me it was probably a failed oil pump 😂😂

Thank you for the video. Sorry if I missed that part in the video but do you have to drain the oil for this job?
Also if I replace all 3 do you think I'm good or are there other reasons for this code?

Hi, no you do not need to drain the oil.
In most cases this will solve the issue.
If it does not solve the problem other causes could be the oil strainer blocked in the sump or the oil needs changing.

The video is really helpful and I have the same error code on my car. Would you say both pressure switches and the sensor all need replacing? It looks from the condition that the oil pressure sensor is the most likely cause of the fault so wondered whether just replacing that might be as effective? Thanks

The oil pressure sensor certainly looks like it is more susceptible to the elements then the switches. No harm in l changing your sensor first, if no luck move onto changing the lower switch, then finally the upper switch it still no joy.

I'm confused, "P164B00 Oil Pressure Switch Malfunction" which switch is it? Top? Bottom? Both?
I'm getting a low oil pressure warning.

Hi, they can all cause P164B00 error code. I would start by changing the lower ones as they are most exposed to the rain and salt.

@@AJRepairs I thought one was a high pressure and the other a low pressure switch? No idea which is which but seem to remember reading something which said top is low.

Hi thanks. The pressure switches are measured by colour and number of pins. Mine were grey one pin at the top and green 2 pin at the bottom. It varies from car to car so best to take yours out before ordering new if possible
