Sir, your work has been amazing. I never jumped on the 40 cal Wagon because the 185 gr was always available in the 45 acp. This is a capable cartridge loading and I will be looking for it. Thanks for your test and the sacrifice you make working in the cold. Adverse fest conditions are the best way to prove a cartridges capabilities.
On the cold barrel issue. The way I look at it is, if you are carrying the pistol concealed which is the most likely scenario, the barrel will be at least at body temperature for your first shot. Since leaving it out in extreme cold affects the numbers on a "cold barrel" first shot, you might consider burning one round to warm it up or don't leave it out in the cold for too long before the first shots. Just some thoughts on the matter.
They are always inside my vehicle until time to use em. The cold barrel most likely didn't cause such a huge spread. Some sure, but not that big. I just gave it the benefit of the doubt because I hear it non-stop in the comments.
@@ToolsandTargets Right on. Is the car running? LOL. We took that to the range and it was a blast! When we tried to buy more ammo, though, they told us we couldn't, since we were both under 21. Oh well. I love .45 ACP. I have several guns chambered for it but not a 1911 pattern yet. Waiting for the right one to come along. I really appreciate your work, Brian! Stay warm. Supposed to get to -2 here tonight for me...
I bought myself a Rock Island 1911 for Christmas, but I was sick from before Christmas, until just a few days ago. Now it's too darn cold and windy to go try it out. I have an old Star PD .45 that I've had for 42 years (I carried it during the 80s oil boom in Oklahoma). Very accurate, but they were made to carry a lot, and shoot a little, and the recoil buffers are impossible to find. I'm hoping this RI 1911 is as accurate.
A Hungarian friend is a very experience wild boar hunter. The winter in Hungary can get brutal, but he still hunts. He bought a new rifle in 30.06 and zeroed it at 100 meters, in the summer. His first winter hunt, he shot at a 90meter boar in the snow, and missed low under its belly. Cold barrel was the cause, so he re-zeroed at minus temp and fixed it.

I love these in all calibers, messes up water jugs for a nice explosive display, copper allows for a longer bullet for the same weight compared to lead, copper is around 8.96 g/cm³ while the density of lead is around 11.34 g/cm³. Meaning you get more bullet for the same weight, a 185 grain copper bullet having 21 % more size then a lead 185 grain and at the same time making it expand and penetrate deep enough is a good achievement, even though lead and hard cast lead still have their use depending on your purpose you use the ammo for

Have you considered keeping the ammo box inside your jacket on cold days? That's something we did frequently in the Navy. Dealing with 3" to 5" bore guns, we recognized the considerable variation due to powder temperature
Depends on target and backdrop. Bears, blk 6-8 inches of fat. Then there are "brush wolves packs", if being attacked identify the "alpha". In the mean time line then up and save ammo. Open country is no joke.

those bad boys did just like they should. nice uniform expansion!
Love the trapper hat!
Its a bit chilly here today, right now its 5 above with a -10 wind chill, very good make 45 great again test LOL, tomorrow is the big day ;), thanks brother
Yessir 😎👊
Your going to get some real cold down there! Their talking about ice and snow in Northern Florida!
Yeah, single digit without the wind chill here for a few days.🥶
@ToolsandTargets We have windchill warnings for -40 to -55° for tonight through Tuesday! Stay warm, my friend !
I have used Barnes Tac-X pistol bullets in my 50 cal muzzle-loader for years using a sabot. Extremely effective on deer and hogs.
Nice
Nice!!! I think you’re right, seems like the 185 is the sweet spot for the finicky.45, especially in a short barrel. I finally got that ammo boxed up and will get it mailed tomorrow. I threw in a 12 gauge curveball too😂. I don’t think you’ve test it yet. Phenomenal test as always my friend 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Appreciate ya brother!😎👊
The 230 grain Gold Dot Short Barrel has expanded well in the tests I've seen. It appears to be a reliable 230 grain option.
Have you considered keeping the ammo box inside your jacket on cold days? That's something we did frequently in the Navy. Dealing with 3" to 5" bore guns, we recognized the considerable variation due to powder temperature
I keep it inside my vehicle. None of this ammo or gel or anything gets nearly as cold as even I do.
I'll be keeping my eye out for a box or two of these on the shelf
😎👊
I daily carry a G30 and this ammo is very encouraging. I’ll have to get some of this ammo
Really good ammo and I'll consider it in the future. Stay warm Tools!
That's why I use a holster with an electric barrel warmer.
You doing a live stream soon?
That's how you get on offender lists
🤯
Great performance! 😲
Great way to end the day, too! 🎉🏆🎉
Thanks for the vid!
💥👍💥
Stay warm bro ! It's cold in Alabama
Nice performance
Suppressed big bore calibers rule!
Thanks again for the amazing videos.
I'll have to look for some of these,I also have a rock island 1911 and would like to try them out.
😎👊
Perfectly timed title. I see what you did there. Let's go!
🔥😎👊🔥
Good looking 45acp! Maybe some of the best!
I use Barnes in a few different calibers: 10mm & .357Mag as defensive ammo (to prevent over penetration in these HOT calibers)
They do a nice job.😎👊
Depends on target and backdrop.
Bears, blk 6-8 inches of fat.
Then there are "brush wolves packs", if being attacked identify the "alpha". In the mean time line then up and save ammo.
Open country is no joke.
Thanks. Lots of likes and comments on this one. For a coincidence I had watched a test of this round earlier today, an older video. Got up to -3 for a high here today. Bitter wind.
Yikes!🥶
I used hornady 185 Grain Hollow point+p, but the ones I really like are the Full Metal Jacket military +p 😅
This is the stuff I've been rambling on for a few months now. Get your hands on the .40 version! Thank me later!
That is some good 45 ammo Tools!
Great video bro. Barnes ammo is made only 25 miles south of me. Good stuff
Thank you sir.😎👊
That'll work!!! Nice test!
Thank you sir.😎👊
