  • Created with Corel VideoStudio. www.bensound.com . I recommend this product, but make sure it isn't damaged upon arrival (also check for hidden belt issues)! Briggs & Stratton only provide their generous warranty on the engine - nothing more!

    I have a double wide driveway (so, picture two garage doors), and this throws the snow just wide enough for all of the snow to get on the grass. This is true, even when I am walking down the middle of the driveway, and it is also true for wet and heavy snow.
    I find that this doesn’t throw ice as far. It is good for cutting into an ice layer, but it isn’t ideal for trying to chop down a 1’ high ice wall.
    Anyway, I am suggesting that this chews through some 8”+ of wet heavy snow, even the stuff that the snow plows out at the base of your driveway. Even with that heavier stuff, I am suggesting that you can throw the snow a good 12’ minimum.
    So, if you park out in the street, you can get all of that snow out of the road, over a 4’ wide sidewalk, and into the grass.
    This is the ideal level of power and practicality for a homeowner living in a state with the biggest snowstorm of the season being maybe 24”+ (total).
    In my opinion, if you get more than that, or if you get tall snow squalls LESS THAN 1.5’, then you truly may need to advance above what this product offers.
    For me, in Pennsylvania, this is a beast.
    For you, in Vermont (for example), maybe you’ll want a 2-stage unit instead.
    Also, be aware of 2 things:
    I had to return this twice, because of issues. The third one had no defects. If you see dents, or find that the belt is squealing (or comes off upon receipt), don’t mess around.
    Briggs and Stratton could use to package these snowblowers better, and protect them during transit. Each new snowblower I received came with additional protective packaging (maybe they are aware of these issues!).
    Briggs only warranties the motor, and not the snowblower itself. So, something simple, like a belt issue, is not covered! Also, beware that it is really challenging to put the belt back onto the sieves, if it comes off!
    Lastly, some assembly required, and the directions are reasonably clear.

    I have the same machine without the electric start. 2nd winter. I plow several places and use this at every place I plow. This machine is an absolute BEAST! Easily the best single stage I've ever owned. And SO QUIET! Light enough to throw into my truck. Only issue I've had is that the paddles wear too quickly. But I beat the crap out of it. My opinion (for what it's worth) is that in your video, I would say you're not making this machine truly work. After all the types and depths of snow I've used this in, honestly I would put it up against most - not all - two stage machines. Very nice video. Now, do another video and beat the hell out of this machine👍. Nicely done Jack.

    I just completed the annual maintenance by changing the oil and spark plug in my 2014 snow shredder which is still going strong, that model year the chute control was mounted near the handle so it was easier to change chute direction. I use ceramic wax on all surfaces, this really prevents snow and ice from sticking to the chute. Great video.

    Your video helped me make my decision of what to buy. Everything has issues and this i know because of where I work. I was looking at a John Deere snow blower and a brute single stage snow blower with the better auger. They both have the same motor from Briggs and Stratton but two entirely different machines. I went with the Brute by Briggs and Stratton because it clearly does a better job and yes, much easier to work on. Thanks for your video.

    Jack- I just ordered and received the 1222EE from Home Depot on Monday, 2/15. I live in SE PA and got a chance to use it for the first time yesterday with an 8" snow/sleet event we had here. I guess I got a good one. Everything works well and I am amazed at how well this thing works. Compared to my 20+ year old Ariens SS322 two stroke, this thing is a beast. Nothing I went through--including deep wet chunks of snow and slush from the plow at the end of the driveway--stopped it. The 250cc engine on mine is good on gas too. Overall, while it remains to be seen how it holds up over time, the machine feels sturdy and the engine is stout. One thing I did before ever running it was install a B&S fuel shut off valve. Turns out there is a perfect place to cut in a 90 degree valve the just happens to fit perfectly in a cutout in a little plastic skirt around the gas tank. Apparently the hole (that is covered at the factory with a black sticker to hide it) is there for the valve. With all the issues with fuel these days, it is beyond me why, for what they charge for the blower and to avoid carburetor issues that will lead to bad customer experience and bad reviews, B&S doesn't just install the valve when they build the engines. They obviously do on some models where they use this engine. Maybe they will read this and change that going forward.... Thanks for posting your video.

      @@jackstoolreviews1519 , the engine barely slowed down. I was amazed at how well it worked and how far it threw even the heavy, slushy stuff (at least 15-20 feet). I had to shovel heavy, wet, crusty snow off my roof today due to ice dams on my house, and had a 2' high packed pile in my driveway that I used the 1222EE to clear out when I was done. I only took half-width bites to get through it but the shredder ate it without slowing down. It was throwing it across my yard with some of it making it to the sidewalk 25+ feet away. I am really impressed so far. Actually hoping we get the 5" of wet snow on Monday to see how it will handle that.

      @@jackstoolreviews1519 I have the 1222e that I bought last year. It went through the most recent blizzards in NE Ohio (snowbelt) without a problem. There were only one or two times when I had to take a half-width because of drifts but it easily went through frozen and plowed snow at the end of my driveway. The electric chute rotation is very nice to have. I'm a woman and it's light enough for me to handle, except on steep driveway approaches. I've never had to use the electric start. It's very powerful compared to my previous 2 cycle MTD blower that I bought in the late 1990s

    I have some additional video to share, upon request!
    Pennsylvania is getting pounded with all types of snow.
    New learnings:
    - Does NOT throw slush for distance. Throws it like 5’
    - To scrape off an ice layer, which it does nicely, don’t forget to tip the snowblower forward
    - To eat into an ice wall, you’ll have more success tilting it backward initially, and also driving straight into the wall (vs. going parallel to it)
    - The gas tank is way oversized. Do not fill it past 1/4 capacity, unless you want to siphon it out at end of season!

    Really struggling with mine. One of the scoop/paddles bolds sheared off and pulled the scoop of the next adjacent bold, (sort of like unbuttoned a shirt). I went to Home depot and bought some new bolts, washers and lock washers and fixed them. Went out to continue clearing the driveway and the auger belt came off, it had been squealing a bit so I was expecting it. Unfortunately, the clearances are too tight to slip the belt back on. looks like I'll have to take the auger pully off, reinstall the belt and put the pully back on., but there's got to be a better way. Looks like the belt has an automatic spring-loaded tensioner and there is no other way of tightening the belt if I can get it back on. It's only the 3rd time using the blower. I've had it just a year but ordered it through Amazon. I'm upset, my wife is pissed off. I thought a Briggs and Stratton product would be better. Other than that, it works well when it works.

    • @jackstoolreviews1519
      @jackstoolreviews1519  2 года назад

      Hey there, so the belt tension is directly related to the tension you apply to the steel cable (to the throttle handle you grab up top during operation). Also, the belt can get jarred when you use this snowblower on an inappropriate amount of snow height, etc.
      Basically, try to optimize the steel cable tension, and don’t push this snowblower harder than necessary. Take your time at the huge heavy snow / ice.
      If the belt jumps off, it is horrific to try to put back on… I returned that one, and haven’t had a problem since using it more responsibly (knocks on wood, because it is now entering snow season).

    This machine performs very well when new. The Snow Shredder feature on the Briggs, Simplicity & Snapper single stage models works nicely and I have the same 250cc Briggs engine on my Ariens Platinum 24 2-stage machine. The problem with these units is dependability, mechanical-wise. The engines will outlast the rest of the machine with a bit of proper maintenance but other parts wear out, become loose, misaligned, etc. If you perform diligent maintenance on the ENTIRE machine you can keep it going for years, but you really need to keep an eye on all parts of the unit. When they are kept up they do a nice job, but may not last as long as some other brands. Just my $0.02. Good luck with yours :-)

    Thanks for posting . I have a Craftsman single stage with Briggs and Stratton . What’s the minimum amount of snow to use this machine ? I tested my machine on a just dusting of snow and the machine didn’t seem to propel as I’m thinking more snow has to be on the surface in order for the machine to propel easier .

    • @MySledgeHammer
      @MySledgeHammer Год назад

      Yes the more snow the further it will be thrown there has to be some amount of snow so it can throw it. You can even use it with no snow if you like just pretend it’s invisible LMAO. Seriously no minimum is my point. I am happy for you plus you might live longer if you have a heart condition or in my case I just like playing with my snow equipment and have fun. I am 78 and no heart condition but my body has about worn out. Thanks and Cheers to you.
      BTW Snow is a lubricant like on concrete or black top - if there isn’t much snow I don’t use the rubber augers to help propel it sense it will wear them out quicker.

    • @dustinj7650
      @dustinj7650 Год назад

      it should propel if it has a propelling mechanism. For example, if the auger isn't spinnging, the machine is fairly heavy to push. Once they start spinning, it is very easy to push it. At least this is how I find the 1022ER to work.
