Between the Pikmin Big Fat Review, the Pikmin 3 discussion video, all the gushing over every trailer, and now this, I will gladly be taking as much long form Arlo Pikmin content as he gives us
Less pikimin at start = better puzzles, more options for "metroid vania" style design. It's not an arbitrary limitation, it's a designed one, and a clever one at that. I think Pikmin needed the shake up in the puzzle solving and exploration, because "make it more lethal" only goes so far.
Hard agree. I think it opens up more options for clever solutions early on instead of just "okay now I have 100 and the game is too easy" that old Pikmin games had.
My only gripe is that more of the other pikmin puzzles were super late game to the point where it felt like they forgot about making puzzles that included all pikmin
I hope you've fully recovered from your surgery. Nice to see these awesome people collabing with you again. This game looks so good and the hype is real. I'm especially excited about the night stages and Oatchi. I can't wait for it to release.

I finally caved and got Pikmin 1 + 2 the day it released on the switch thanks to hearing Arlo rave about it for so long. I AM IN LOVE!! I’ve been playing and replaying the 3 mainline games in the last month and just finally called it a day on the Pikmin 4 demo. Friday can’t come soon enough!!
To me Pikmin 4 feels like an alternate timeline where Olimar either doesn’t have the 30 day limit, or isn’t aware of it. In Pikmin 1 when you get the interstellar radio, olimar says it can emit an SOS signal, but it doesn’t matter because he doesn’t have enough time remaining. In Pikmin 4 he obtains it and immediately sends out an SOS signal. Then it explicitly states a month passes before anyone answers, which would have depleted his life reserves and led to the bad ending in Pikmin 1. Seems to be asking “well, what if the radio did matter?”
the lock on in this game is mostly fine, however there was one case where i was trying to aim at a pool of water to throw my ice pikmin to get the blue onion back to base and they kept locking on to the spicy berry plant and it was very annoying.
Arlo, antdude, and shesez are all content creators that I follow but I had no idea collaborated together. I love this so much. You all bounce off each other's ideas so perfectly and I would adore for ya'll to collaborate again. This was so so wonderful, thank you! Please keep up the amazing work
I actually really like the Flarlic just cuz it makes it feel like you are progressing more. Like having a 100 pikmin or something on the very first few days makes it feel anticlimactic. It makes the pacing feel better.
But they could've started at 100 and unlocked up to 200 but none of the extra 100 are needed except for a few simple things and kept the same progression.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 true, but that would also require them to rework enemies health and also pikmin damage.. since the max pikmin is most likely 100, we can keep past enemies and pikmin values relatively the same (which means less dev work).

32:00 About the origins of the rescue pup species, one of the nightly discussions that the crew shares in the demo reveals that the captain doesn't actually know where Oatchi's species originated from. My guess would be PNF-404, since Olimar found Moss there, but idk. Would be cool if you could find more.
Apparently I didn't pay enough attention to the story parts of the demo because when olimar was talking about discovering pikmin and stuff i didnt realize it was a reboot type thing, i thought they were just recapping the story quickly for those that havent played the previous games

im pretty hyped but i kinda miss some of the old sound FX like the bulborb and other small things like that also im probably in the smaller minority but i like free throwing the pikmin, wish there was the option to disable the auto-lock
Everyone’s putting so much stock into this being a reboot to the point where it’s got Shesez down on the game, but I really feel like once we play the full game it’ll just be another sequel and all this discussion will have been pointless. I feel like Olimar describing him discovering Pikmin and using them to collect his ship parts is just the game describing the concept of Pikmin to new players who have no clue what the game’s are about.
@@Gemma-Majoran There is nothing in those datamines that definitely says it’s a reboot, people are just going off leaked captain logs, but we don’t have the full picture yet.

OOOOOO How I wish I was apart of this conversation! I hope you guys follow up a few months from now with your thoughts with the final game. Some things that I like: electricity will stun pikmin, like it does in Pikmin 3, but if you don't whistle them after awhile they will die, so it's actually a threat now. Pikmin 2 and 3 had a maturity problem in that bud Pikmin were pretty much non-existant. In Pikmin 2, if pikmin deflowered they went straight to leaf pikmin, so there was this cycle that was flower to leaf, drink nectar, repeat. In Pikmin 3, pikmin never deflowered, so nectar was always a permenant upgrade, so you would pretty much be garaunteed flowered pikmin always coming out of the onion. The only way to get budded pikmin in those games is by growing. This seems to fix that by incorporating Pikmin 1 style deflowering stage by stage. However, like Pikmin 3, squad management when transversing seems pretty much non-existant, and maturity speed only comes into play in the demo when pikmin are working. As we saw in the direct trailer, there is a character speed upgrade, so maybe it will contribute then? Excited to play this game FRIDAY! Sorry for being a short essay P.S. I hope your recovery from surgery continues to go well and you feel better soon
I'm on the side of 'This is the Olimar died timeline' because the opening specifically says, '1 MONTH LATER' for the rescue to arrive, & Olimar's life support was supposed to fail in 30 days;
This is my first Pikmin game and I got into it because of your excitement for it, Arlo! Love your videos and love this game! Thinking about giving the others a try after this one

Oachi has 3D Aardman eyes in a world full of flat cartoon eyes. He looks like a character from Flushed Away. Usually only enemies have those popped out eyeballs, and the lack of a nose doesn't help. I only started finding him cute when I saw him get sad. Now I will protect him.
You know what Oatchi reminds me of in a weird way? Slime luigi from LM 3. Can do a lot of the same things as your character, but with his own extra abilities and limitations.
My expectation/hope is for it to kinda be like the non-canon kirby side modes. Like Pikmin 4 is not canon to the main Pikmin timeline, but does contain relevant info and, I hope, involve the plasm wraith and crashing mystery.
Our vacation started today and my partner and I are playing Pikmin 4 together (separately at the same time rather) and it’s a pretty sweet vacation so far. Last vaca was the week after Totk came out so we’re batting a 1000 I’d say
I think that it is just another adventure for olimar post pikmin 3 because it still sounds like he has experience with the pikmin but is explaining his adventure in his log that he is going to send out.
I like that the flower bud only change color to the colors of pikmin you have in the field and I love that you can relocate your base. The dog feels a little bit to powerful though, you can upgrade it to a 100 carrying strength which is way to much, ramming into enemies seems super powerful aswell. Ice Pikmin seem super strong too. I hope the final version will have difficulty options. Did anyone look for all the Pikmin in the Olimar level? I loved doing that.
Arlo is my my favorite Muppet/Puppet Mascot also love how we have 3 big brains of pikmin content here talk about Scrogingers pikmin game finally being realised with two new types Ice pikmin and the Glowmin how you get the cave system back and your able to explore the landscape like never before and also the new night time exploration where you get to fight the very agressive enemies akin to a difficulty setting to Super Hard
Something that yall seem to gloss over when talking about him, when olimar finds moss in the beginning cutscene he already has the leaf tail. This is something that very much should be noted
I want the game to randomly tell me the origins of pikmin and the onions. Something vaguely shocking like "oh, yeah. They were big. That big place over there was one of their houses. Some of them are keeping it clean and stuff"
Yeah, I’m mostly in agreement with all points. The whole potential retcon thing doesn’t bug me too much. Pikmin 1,2, and 3 still continue to exist and be loved. Besides, following up Pikmin 1’s bad ending is way more interesting than Pikmin 3’s vague cliff hanger. Let’s be honest, 3’s cliffhanger is mostly just there to have an excuse to have more astronauts crash land on PNF-404 for future sequels. Overall, very optimistic on this one!

Major props to Arlo for keeping this video so brief!
He should have made this a short

Considering this is Arlo talking about Pikmin 4, this is probably him trying his hardest to keep it short

I would be so down if these podcast-like videos with Arlo and friends become a regular thing

This gives me a glimmer of hope that Arlocast is coming back 🥺
I was actually listening to old episodes of Arlocast earlier today. What a coincidence 😂
I kid you not, I was literally watching the first discussion yesterday
I want the game to randomly tell me the origins of pikmin and the onions. Something vaguely shocking like "oh, yeah. They were big. That big place over there was one of their houses. Some of them are keeping it clean and stuff"
The house must be related somehow, it's well kept and the Pikmin were excited to be there
Yeah, I’m mostly in agreement with all points.
