  • The community war between the Isle and path of titans:
    Rivalry between games is as old of a concept as gaming is an established industry. A phenomenon that pretty much always existed to an extent, and in video games it was nothing more than an inevitability. In the dinosaur survival genre, there are 3 particular titles that stand at the top of the food chain: The Isle | path of titans | Beasts of Bermuda, all continuously competing with each other for the valuable attention of this very niche audience. However, the first 2 in particular have a rather peculiar relationship with one another, and not in a good way.
    But why is this the case? Why are these 2 communities so strongly against one another? Was this a natural process, or is there something more behind these behaviours?
    Hope you enjoy the video and see you in the next one, stay safe :)

    Some things not mentioned in this video.
    One of the lead devs for PoT was an ex-TI developer, who left after creative differences with Dondi. (Matt being known to be DeathlyRage)
    Dondi as not very happy about this and did actively try to sabotage both PoT as well as BoB at some points, (Mainly by trying to say both games have stolen parts of TIs devkit, and that PoT specifically sabotaged their mod API??) though he did better this behavior and no longer harasses the other games by sending his community after them.
    So this as well also brings some personal beef between the games, though I would personally say both devs have left it behind. The communities don't seem fond of forgetting however.

      Remember when The Isle’s team openly defended a potential predator on a live stream because he was “one of their own”? They acted unprofessional and crude to anyone who wanted the truth. Not only that, but they also denied a popular dinosaur RUclipsr a content creator role because they made a video criticizing the developers FAIRLY. The pettiness of TI’s devs is unreal, why would anyone support this game when these are the very people creating it?

      I don't know much about what a developer does, but if he was lead dev for PoT, then why can't he optimize The Isle on multiple platforms....like PoT has done? 😅 you can't run the Isle smoothly without a good pc rig.

    It’s a shame people dont realise that competition isn’t a bad thing. A monopoly is a bad thing. It would be so nice if both games used each other as a drive for both to be the best versions of themselves.

    • @danielmalinen6337
      @danielmalinen6337 Месяц назад +1

      One of the best aspects of competition is innovation. For example, Path of Titans is adding new features to the game that were originally in the Beast of Bermuda and the Isle of Yore. Without competition, these mechanics would not have been invented or discovered. For example, environmental effects and disasters is one of the new ones and in future random forest fires, storms and floods force players to survive and create more excitement in the game.

    I always thought the war between the games festered from a Developer from Isle being fired, then having the beef to make his own dino game his way to make it better and more effective then the isle and Path of Titans was born. Ever since then the dispute festered into an arms race on which game outdoes the other

    • @thomasinefitzpatrick
      @thomasinefitzpatrick 6 месяцев назад +64

      Ironically that arms race is probably the only thing keeping TI alive(And I prefer TI, and think Dondi has a better vision.... But Darkest is clearly a more decent and level headed and reliable/committed sort of a guy. Dondi would burn the whole game down the minute he isnt getting what he wants from it)

      Aesthetically the isle is superior and the animation is better. Gameplay is worse core mechanics wise though, although combat is superior in the isle. If they can sort out the idle growing and lag then I’d say isle is the top Dino game. Till then it’s PoT with the isle a very close second.

    • @thomasinefitzpatrick
      @thomasinefitzpatrick 6 месяцев назад +6

      @@Nubloot XD thats a reasonably fair read.... If TI worked right, itd be an obviously better game. Since it doesnt, even though PoT is WAY behind TI in a variety of key dinosaur and survival ways.... Atleast PoT runs smoothly and can be played, and as much as I HATE the concept of only losing growth on death(That single issue might make me switch to PoT if it wasnt those ways just because of how it effects how people play and socialize).... atleast Im not losing 4+ hours of cooperative gameplay to lag or disconnection or broken mechanics like pouncing(which has gotten way better, but not before six other new nightmares arose) or because food is stuck in my mouth or because it wont eat something that is clearly showing up for me, but Im guessing on the server isnt there or something.
      I just want a game like TI made by devs that are MORE like PoT devs.... although I do think PoT devs have made some very unattractive design choices by trying to make their game easy and approachable and 'for everyone'.
      .... and PoT combat and swimming and flying are all.... awful. Just awful.
      Idk... There really are a few things about PoT that ruin it for me.... but if they changed those things(lack of perma-death, flying being AWFUL, combat responsiveness/feedback)
      Id LOVE to kick TI to the curb and never deal with Dondi or any of those toxic psychos again....
      But as it stands as hopelessly broken as TI is, nothing else even comes close to close(and I guess the reason that hurts me in regards to PoT is that if they just made some different design choices, theyre clearly more skillful at making clean and stable code. I wouldnt say theyre better, but their product is clearly more well put together and functions AS IT WAS INTENDED(Yeah.... f ck you Dondi, and your condescending attitude.... People dont need to just 'get good'. Make a game that actually functions properly/consistently)

    • @RedexTwo
      @RedexTwo 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@NublootI can’t even play the isle anymore because of the lag and insane spec requirements. Other than that, the insane time it takes for buggy updates to be released and Dondi being one of the worst leads ever makes me upset. The Isle could be so much better if they had a better person incharge imo.
      I can’t get into POT, and The Isle is the game I’ve always wanted ever since I was a kid. I’m just so tired of waiting years for the game to be playable. I bought the game when I was in middle school, and now I’m about to graduate college. I never would have thought that the reason I stopped playing The Isle was because my PC cannot run it and the game takes so freaking long to develop.
      Side note: I wish progression was never removed from The Isle. I really liked the concept of it, and would have liked to see it get fleshed out alongside survival.

    I wish they'd learn from one another, and make each other better in turn.
    The Isle is better for me with growth being passive, and looking beautiful, immersive, and feel more alive.

      I don't play PoT for more or less the same reasons, I like The Isle's better animations, sounds, more grounded in reality mechanics (and the mechanics being, at least in my opinion, much cooler, like Dilo venom and stuff like that and also stuff like bleed being seperate from hp) and primary focus on survival over anything else. I don't dislike PoT and I don't want them to change what kind of game they are just to appeal more to the players like me because only thing I would give up the current The Isle for is just The Isle from a few years later with it being more complete and polished and I don't think that is a problem, I think both games appeal to completely different types of players and I find it pointless to even call them rivals, because other than some core ideas like playing as a dinosaur and having to eat and drink to stay alive they have almost nothing in common.

    To me The Isle and Path of Titans have almost nothing in common other than being games where you play as a dinosaur, The Isle is trying to be a hardcore focused game with horror elements and with an actual lore which I prefer over Path of Titans's focus on PvP as far as I can tell, there are survival elements but it is very obvious that staying alive is not the main goal of the game and in this way Path of Titans has more in Common with games like Rust than it has with The Isle which is the most survival focused game I have ever played because the only reason for PvP in The Isle is to either get food or to avoid becoming food which is enforced by the many mechanics in the gama put in place to punish people who are constantly fighting bymaking the resting and healing process slow, which usually works well for the player if they play the game with that mindset (at least in my experience)
    I can't talk as much about PoT other than the stuff I already said because I never played the game myself, it's just not my kind of game so what I did say comes from watching videos about it.

      Yeah, Having Dino's isn't a Genre, they are both quite different games

    • @mariadracona
      @mariadracona 6 месяцев назад +3

      This is what I have always said because I also played Rust, and although it does not remind me of it, it definitely does seem like there are quite a lot of similarities. PoT is like an MMO, while The Isle is a hardcore survival. Although I play both, I do prefer The Isle, because it's a hardcore survival game which is what I prefer, and it is incredibly immersive, and both of those features in a game to me are what make it fun; I want to feel like I am actually living in the world, and the genius game concept such as the passive growth makes it so it feels like I NEED to preserve my life at all costs. And I prefer Hardcore survival games. PoT feels too easy, people literally throw their lives away, but I guess that's what PvP is all about- except it's toxic PvP- Mixpackers are a serious issue to me that, as a mainly solo player, if there was no mixpacking (which was not an intended mechanic of PoT btw), I would certainly enjoy it much more for what it is; a PvP/MMO with survival elements. But the lack of honor and with toxicity that makes me want to not play the game, it's hard to enjoy the game and play it as intended.
      In The Isle, I feel like I deserved to outlive a situation. The PvP in PoT feels so braindead to me, not to mention the movement is absolutely terrible, it's so chunky and blocky feeling, it feels unfinished. Maybe I just have a strong game genre preference.
      You can absolutely compare the games if what you are looking for is a game with great dinosaur gameplay/immersion, but you can't say that the games are the same genres. MMO's and Survival games are very different. I don't see why the toxicity is necessary in giving your opinion on the game. I understand there was developer drama in the past but both games have dropped it and settled their differences. I just don't see why people should keep beating the dead horse. They're only fueling themselves, while the developers watch and are constantly reminded of the trauma suffered by both PoT and The Isle devs AND players(yes, believe it or not, people can feel ashamed/be attacked/involved in other dramas/harrassed and cyberbullied by many people when a statement is publicly made).
      But then again, this toxicity is not only present on The Isle. It exists in many other forms, in many other games.
      In other words, society is to blame in general, not necessarily the things that happen between games. A lot of different people are being exposed to toxicity, and repeating it. There's a lot of bullies out there in the world who don't even realize that's what they are doing when they are being toxic.

    I'm currently editing videos for both Path and The isle (because new dinos) and I like both games. I have been playing both from their starts and there are things in both games have that drive me up a wall. Yep I do hate biting the ground and looking like an idiot to gently pick out someone's heart, yes I do get tired of picking up acorns and mushrooms over and over again but those things dont define the games for me, they are just parts/factors of it. I have watched both communities go at each others necks for really no reason, like guys just play the games. Be a dinosaur, roar at someone, eat someone, slap someone with yo tail. It's all the same guys. Just go play and be a dinosaur you dont have to be toxic to the other one just dont play it, simple.

  • @namelesscat
    @namelesscat 6 месяцев назад +9

    People need to remember that competition is a good thing, if path gets more and more popular, isle devs will start to try more to make their game better, then the isle gets more players, driving the path devs to do better. Competition gives the devs a reason to try their best, without it they would just do whatever they want.
    Beasts of Bermuda, I really wish them luck, the devs, they seem great, almost every update you can see that most features are taken from community feedback, but parts of the community are just so toxic that they can't change it, I heard that's the reason mosa is still so strong. I say beasts of Bermuda has potential, but will still take a long time for that potential to unfold.
    Path and the isle both have pros and cons and some pros and cons are very dependent on the person, I for example LOVE the movement in the isle, but I also love precise movements in PoT, I like the graphics in both and both have models I love and hate, everyone can enjoy either their preferred game or both, they both have good and bad.

    I think you forgot something major for why the isle players in the start were so hostile to PoT. Vast majority of them, when things were still fresh and nobody had forgotten anything, blamed PoTs lead dev for destroying the isle. It's irrelevant if that is the case or not, but that's where the hate comes from. They blame Matt ( deathly ) for making it impossible for the rest of the isle team to continue developing legacy. They blame him for the isle needing to do a complete recode.
    I feel like saying that the hate towards pot is out of nowhere and just because it's competition is unfair and paints the isle players in bad light. There very much was a valid reason in the start.
    Currently I do believe pot to hold the more toxic community.
    I love both of these games a lot. I don't see a reason to just stick to one.

      I've been playing the isle a lot recently, and it's by far more toxic in my experience. I have thousands of hours in POT, but I haven't seen as much pettiness than in just 100 hours in the isle. When I play the isle and team with randoms, more likely than not, at some point, they'll just turn around and kill me. TI is the only game I play where I've seen people respawn dozens of times as juvies just to whittle you down for revenge. Though I guess that differs from person to person.

    honestly this is why i am less active in the isle community. I was one of those isle players who went to path just because the isle wasn't getting updated. now i'm not gonna sit here and say (as basically a POT veteran) that path was this "flawless game with no draw backs and a flourishing community that's always been there since the start" n o. path in it's early stages was a shit show (to a point where people only continued to play it because Primordial Tyrants were producing such high quality mods), and the player base was quite obviously jaded isle players who were just sick of the isle's shit. the game was horrifically unbalanced, mods were... well... questionable at time (flashbacks to asylum wolf) and panjura was (still kind is) a poorly designed map. a lot of people give the "revival of POT" credit to gondwa, but in reality the devs just kinda got their shit together and fixed (most) the major issue with their game. the isle on the other hand has only made their game less enjoyable (for fuck sakes fix the stam system), which is likely what lead to this "war". here's my tip for anyone in the isle community who still blames POT for the isles decline in players. look at the isle, the devs, and the decisions made and ask yourself, "was this caused by POT? or was this caused by bad game development?", most of the time, it's gonna be the game development part and not pot

      Took the words right outta my mouth. The isle in its current form is practically unplayable for me personally, so i've moved almost entirely to PoT (And BoB if it was more popular).
      I find it such a bummer that the isle is so unenjoyable now; I LOVE the atmosphere and many of the playable dinos, but the new stam system, bizarrely quick hunger drain and crappy community have all turned me away from the game until it's actually fixed.
      Thats not to say that PoT is perfect, as you said. Official servers are annoying and cruel with a lot of angry children who love to kill and insult anyone who comes close to their cuddle puddle of knobheads. But PoT has far more customization and potential with new gamemodes, mods, quest updates and interesting creatures all on the way. I mean, when the isle released its two latest creatures, one was insanely OP (dilo) and the other was bogged down by another crappy system (herra). PoT releases its second official flyer (hatz) and it only needs some tiny stat adjustments to be completely balanced.
      I really really hope that both games can live up to be their own things and finally either separate the two communities, or make them interconnected in a good way. But as it stands the isle isn't looking good, while PoT just continues to improve and deliver on promises.

      @66Traveler99 Not in my opinion. B.o.B.s models are gorgeous and the devs are currently reworking the old designs, and giving them fresh animations. +You can color them literally however you want without having to pick up a million acorns just to unlock a moderately okay looking (and considerably limiting) skin pattern or set of colors.
      As for combat, the whole tail attack thing in P.o.T. is weird, and I'd argue that the dinosaurs have too many kinds of attacks. B.o.B.s skill tree system is easy to understand, meanwhile P.o.T. has a lot of weird stuff going on that is certainly not beginner friendly or just downright makes no sense. (Again, like having to pick up flowers and shells just for your dinosaur to grow. Seems more like a poor game design choice to me, even worse than The Isles diet system IMO.)

    • @goldheist1816
      @goldheist1816 5 месяцев назад +4

      @66Traveler99
      The tail attack is valid, I understand why it was it was implemented now. As for the whole quick-turning thing though, it actually varies from person to person in B.o.B., because in the skill tree, you can invest points into making your turns tighter and faster. So what you may have seen in clips of people playing B.o.B. may not have been the base turn rate for the dinosaur they're playing as.
      Growing in B.o.B is a hell of a lot more fun than in P.o.T. (or the isle as well).
      In P.o.T. you collect acorns and shells and flowers to grow...why? It feels pointless. It's just busywork to force you to come out of a bush because literally no one likes growing in most games of this genre. Additionally, if you don't move, they punish you for not playing a twig picking simulator by halting your growth entirely. That's a load of bullshit.
      The isles diet system is pretty bad too, since it much of it relies on luck, but at least you can still grow passively even if it's not exactly at the supposed regular rate.
      B.o.B., though, I feel like has the best system out of the other two. In my experience, it's nowhere near as exhausting or boring. Growth is influenced by a multitude of factors. Weather and comfort are two, which are pretty easy to take advantage of.
      There's the diet system, which unlike The Isles needlessly complex system, is comprised of only 4 diet parts; Fish, meat, plants, and salt. Each creatures diet is made up of 1 or more of these and they're really easy to understand and maintain. If I recall correctly, they give you comfort benefits, and keep you satiated for longer.
      Then, instead of only giving you the bare minimum for coming out of the bush (a regular growth rate), B.o.B. encourages players to get out and move by placing flowers and crystals around the map that stack onto the base rate which you naturally grow at. This makes your dinosaur reach 1.32 (the adult stage) much faster. This is great, because truly at the end of the day, 90% of players in either of the big three games of this genre are playing for the combat. So the faster you reach the adult stage and can fight to your fullest potential, the better.
      As for the quest skins, it's a good idea, but in P.o.T. it's executed so poorly. If the main way to get points is by clicking on seaweed, is that really a fun game mechanic? I already have to keep my hunger and hydration up, and make sure I don't get killed by larger predators. Why add another thing to have to take care of? And I'd much rather be engaging in combat or exploring the map, y'know, something that's actually mentally stimulating anyways.
      B.o.B. gives you more points to use on the skill tree once you reach elder and go beyond 1.32 growth, making you heal faster, deal more damage, stay full for longer etc. And I believe the isle will soon be adding elder dinosaurs and give benefits for that too. As for P.o.T? I'm pretty sure they don't have anything like that in place.
      This is a perfect example of a scenario where they could have skin and ability rewards, by winning fights, making smart choices, and ultimately keeping your dinosaur alive for a long time.

The other 2 big game communities most likley dont think that people are being taken away by the game due to these differences. Also taking into account that a majority current bob players play on autorevives and chill servers it becomes even more obvious.

    I have 500+ hours on the Isle but I prefer Pot lately, mostly because the Isle devs only want to put their own vision into the game, without thinking it as a game and results as a blurry concept between "realism" and actual accessibility. We end up with the worse of both worlds that would need to be resolved with a massive quality of life update. So many bad details add up in the Isle, and while they are quite small individually, the sheer quantity of them makes it unenjoyable for more than a few hours.

    Another reason for BoB not being part of the conflict is due to its origins in comparison with PoT. PoT is being developed by former Isle devs. BoB is being developed by former Isle players. Early in PoT's development, its lead dev was accused for "Sabotaging" The Isle's code before leaving, necessitating the rebuild of the entire game from scratch. This is demonstrably false since the devs were talking about needing to rework the code almost from scratch long before their coder left to make PoT. I'm not sure where that accusation originated, but it became popular within the Isle community, which triggered the aggressive rivalry between the two. PoT sees The Isle's community as a toxic cesspit that hates them for being a legitimate rival, The Isle sees PoT's community as traitors who are to blame for The Isle's slow development and set backs, and I don't think we're likely to see either community reflect on that dynamic any time soon since it's far too convenient to just hate without understanding.
    Personally, I'm a former Isle player and semi-current PoT player. I've played all three of the top trio, and none of them are perfect.
    PoT's much more forgiving and thus more pleasant to play than The Isle thanks to deaths only setting back your growth rather than erasing your character outright. Mobility is also much better overall, with things like fall damage being more lenient. On the flipside, the quest system needs a lot more work as it currently makes the gameplay highly repetitive and tedious, especially on official servers where questing is mandatory since there is no passive growth.
    The Isle's got far superior sound design, with good audible range so you can make a mental map of the population in your surroundings without actually seeing them, and even predict what you might run into 5-10 minutes in the future if you're paying attention. But it is way too obsessed with making itself a rogue-like experience, without the speed of progression and semi-persistent progression over runs that rogue-likes need to be fun. That turns the game into a massive insult to players' time, which is why I quit playing in the first place despite having ~1500 hours of play time; the highest of any game I have on Steam. I just have nothing to show for it. The only difference between me and a person who just bought the game is that I have a bit more experience with how to fight. And even that isn't true anymore since I haven't played since Evrima.
    As for BoB, it's leaning heavily into the PVP aspect with an in depth ability tree, different builds, and the ability to "Resurrect" dinosaurs you lose by sacrificing others you own in exchange. But it still suffers from The Isle's slow progression and recovery, and the movement, in my opinion, doesn't feel as good.
    In all three of these games I typically stayed on community servers because the experience was drastically more pleasant than the official servers.

    My recent experiences in The isle: spawn in, desperately try to find food (if carnivore, die a couple times in the battle royale spawn point and try again until i can eat and idle until grown a bit) grow, find some nice buddy to roam around, until a solo dilo or carno appears out of nowhere and kills me and my buddy. Every damn time. the most fun dino i've played so far is beipi, since it's easier to find food and somewhat safe (unless the server is filled with maxed out deinos). My main issues would be the poor optimization (seriously, they need to make the map much smaller so it can be more optimized, what's the point of making a big map if you have to go to the arenas and die there anyway?) and stamina/hunger balancing. also, diet food is very poorly distributed along the map.
    Besides all those things, I can grasp a small potential for having fun and be immersed, all it takes is more focus by the devs, stop making silly unoptimized maps, get rid of deathmatch hotspots, make being able to interact with others more viable, like herbs being able to use local for instance. (race based comms is so dumb imo).

    As someone who’s played both the isle evrima and path of titans. At the end I played path of titans more. Reason being is because path of titans keeps you occupied between growth and grinding for skins and upgrades. Path of titans is also much more forgiving. In PoT death isn’t really a big deal as you only loose about 1-2 areas worth of quests when you die and depending on the circumstances that usually only takes you 15-30minutes to get your adult back. Which encourages more risky and bold plays. People aren’t as hesitant to fight as much. The dinosaur roaster is also much larger and there’s a lot more to each Dino than the isle. The path of titans map is also much more immersive and beautiful than the isles map. I enjoy the variety of path of titans. I also love the fliers in path of titans. Because in the isle you can’t even get off the ground without loosing 90% of your stam. Only to fly for like 10 seconds and be back on the ground regenerating stamina for the next 10 hours. Atleast for me path of titans runs a lot better than the isle does even though my pc is pretty decent. Overall I prefer path of titans much more and currently don’t have many good things to say about the isle. Especially now that path of titans has the grabbing and pounce and latch mechanics now.

    A very well done video with a great message, thank you for bringing this out.
    I’m a big isle player, but recently have begun to pick up path, and overall I’m enjoying myself. Path has a lot to offer for what it is, and I’d argue it does plenty of things better than the isle. I’m surprised how fun Gondwa was to explore, I’d say it’s on par or even better than gateway even, also worth mentioning customization and mods. But it’s not without flaws, the animations aren’t as good and movement isn’t as fluid as isle evrima, crashes are frequent and quests can also be tedious (how hard can it be to find a few mushrooms?). My biggest flaw though is immersion which frankly I haven’t felt much of when compared to isle, who excels at this aspect.
    By now my comment is long of course, but so far I still enjoy the isle a bit more. Isle of course is not without flaws as it seems every update has a new pile of issues. Currently isle has major rubber banding and crashing issues, changes in AI spawns encourage hot spots, and more bugs. Right now these issues have somewhat turned me away from the isle, and having path be there as a second option has been nice.

    As a PoT main, I have nothing against The Isle.
    In fact I’ve been following The Isle since it was first released to the public.
    The Isle is the reason I even got into this genera in the first place, so it’ll always have a special place in my heart, even if I don’t play it anymore.
    The reason that I play PoT over The Isle is because I’m casual.
    PoT is much easier to get into and less punishing overall, compared to The Isle’s more hardcore play-style.
    Another major reason is that PoT is cross platform. I can play with my friends and sister, who all have different game systems like xbox, playstation, and switch.
    I happen to be apart of a few large PoT communities(outside the main Discord), but I have yet to see anyone kick and scream over The Isle, so I’m not sure where you’re seeing this “rivalry” from.

      Maybe reddit? But even there when I see The Isle mentioned on PoT's subreddit it's mostly when listing pros and cons of both games or saying what people personally don't like about it. Meanwhile, on The Isle's subreddit, I constantly see actual insults being thrown at PoT and its players.

    As someone who plays both. I’m indifferent of their communities and in my opinion. What you feel like playing all comes down to the mood you’re in. Wanna relax and collect random things for hours and occasionally fight someone? PoT.
    Want to be stressed and on edge as you try to keep yourself fed and not get jumped by the occasional player or boar? The isle.
    However i would like to see the isle actually make some good progress on the “game” aspect of things. Feels like we’ve just been getting dinos and yet another “new map” for years now. But the gameplay loop has stagnated

    The people who act like that because they see the other game as "competition" feel especially pathetic. Path of Titans is on so many more platforms, I'd imagine for a pretty sizeable chunk of the playerbase it's the only one of the two games they'd even be able to play

    Ngl, the reason I play dino game is to be a fun dino. Not ENTIRELY built on realism but there is just enough for the game to be visually enjoyable, and the combat system is fun too. That's why I choose Path of Tiger Nuts to play most of the time, The Isle feels less rewarding and is more of a chore, as well as the combat being all over the damn place and the scarcity of players in the map. PoT just satisfies my 9 year old Dino need better than the rest while also keeping a healthy structure and community. Oh ye don't get me STARTED on the Isle community, that topic speaks for itself.

    I necessarily don’t really look at Path of Titans and The Isle as competitive games. I’ve always seen them as 2 unique games with something different to offer, but coming from the same core idea: dinosaur survival. Heres how i differentiate the 2:
    The Isle is slowly moving toward a survival horror, with a massive lore story involving the options to play as humans, neurotenic, hypoendocrin, tissoplastic or magna versions of normal dinosaurs.
    Path of Titans is moving toward survival; but with a a cherry on top: you don’t need to play survival, you can also play different gamemodes (in the near future) like capture the egg, deathmatch etc.
    In conclusion: 2 games for you to enjoy, depending on what you like. And because i look at it this way, i don’t need to worry 1 game will completely take the other game’s playerbase. Both games got the dedication and motivation to keep on moving and suprise their respective playerbases with new drip-fed content each time. (If you read all this, thank you for taking the 2 minute time to do so ❤

    The main reason hate is perpetuated by the isle's side is because the developers, mainly Dondi, encouraged it. Dondi openly throws shade at the other games and their developers. I think it goes without saying a lot of people in his community blindly follows anything he says. Even I received backlash and lies spread about me just because I defended BoB from unfair slander.

    Lets not forget the internal drama that happened between Dondi and Matt. Both used to be very close friends, then fell apart. Dondi once said Matt never liked dinosaurs, so for him it was strange seeing him then started working on another dinosaur game, with Jiggy, who was also part of the Isle's team. I totally get were the hostility came from because most of us thought Path would be a scam. Now we know, it is not, and becoming its own thing. Same with BoB, once build on old code of the Isle.
    I both enjoy Isle and Path on their own terms. Isle is more mature, gritty, unforgiving. Path has way more options in dinosaur builds, skins, gamemodes to come. Was I hating on it for a while, yes, I must admit that I did..but then saw they kept on updating and ive changed my mind.
    2024 will be interesting for all 3.

    Bob doesn’t even compare to the two anymore, maybe in 2020-2021 it competed when they had a good thing going, but ever since they made some pretty controversial development decisions and made one too many massive mistakes and misjudgments the playerbase has declined heavily and the official servers struggle to hold even 30 players regularly now.
    Isle had a decent thing going for Evrima for a hot minute, but this obsession with making the game a starvation simulator is seriously tanking the experience. No time to explore, no time to pvp, you’re constantly looking for food or water, and you’re actively punished for leaving your water source areas to explore parts of the map most people will NEVER see because of poor game design.

    In all honesty, I play both games just as equally. Yes, there is toxicity but you have to move past that and just have fun with your friends and enjoy the game, ITS A GAME. I have my opinions on both sides, there's both pros and cons to both sides, I was and still am highly emotionally attached to TI, it was my first dino game, I made friends on there, but I also made friends on BOB and POT. I just wish people looked more in the fun aspects of the games and playing with their friends and family. Its disheartening how things have changed over the years where I felt like there was no toxicity on both sides. People have their opinions and favorite game but they should'nt be so serious about it and start an online war that should've never been started in the first place. If we look at Draconia and Day of Dragons, they are the leading dragon games and yet you see no toxicity from either side because that player base understands its just a game.

    Here is my view, as an ex isle player and now a devoted path player I think my main issue with the isle is the community as I am a realism player I enjoy moderation and rules so my experience feels fun and realistic but in the isle’s case the isla spiro map, I haven’t played sanctuary since I believe my PC won’t be able to run it over 20FPS, is very boring to me and not a realistic or fun map for me to play on with no map apart from when spawning in you get lost very easily ,which isn’t an issue in path because of you being able to see the map. So, when I see no realism servers, I play servers with light rules but with realistic mechanics, diet, sickness, injury, etc. the game feels clunky and contrasting to me meanwhile in path the community does include realism servers which implement these mechanics but through rules and playstyles through certain dinosaurs for example: “Styracosuarus enjoys pumpkins over every other food source but will eat other sources if needed”. That’s not an actual rule but you know what I mean. What I’m trying to get at is that I think the isle community and game are contrasting with their ideas and how they want to play the game with the game shoving realistic mechanics down players throats while players want to just have fun and don’t be realistic (mix-packing,etc.) while in path realism isn’t implied but if you want to you can make your experience a realistic one through discords, communities and what not.

    I'm just saying, it's usually not PoT players getting spotted on the Isle. I'd bet if Isle Legacy got more updates instead of the devs just starting from scratch basically, it'd have a larger playerbase today. Evrima in it's current state really can't compete

      Honestly I'm glad they started from scratch because first; Legacy is broken, which is the primary reason why they didn't continue on top of it, fixing it would have been more difficult than making a whole new game, and second; Some people still play legacy, I mean yea if you ask me Evrima is better than legacy in all aspects pother than legacy's ability to run on a toaster but if people like it let them have it.

    This level of toxicity in both communities is one of the main reasons why I actually prefer playing BOB over the other 2. It got sickening more so after both player bases became so detestable in their own ways in game. I’ve had no issue with the BOB community due to the lack of toxicity when compared to the other two. It’s sad to see that the game isn’t as popular as the other two, but also a blessing in disguise because of it being not as popular as the other two and not attracting a large toxic player base.

That's about it. PoT seemed fine to me, and so did BoB. Maybe it i went thru the whole process of extremely slow development I'd feel resentful towards the isle, or maybe I'd feel loyal if i had stuck with them so long.. who knows. I've play The Isle in 2016 in Legacy only. I used to love that game, in 2020 I came back and had a lot of fun. In 2022 I bought Path of Titans because of the Gondwa update with the aquatics and flyers addition and it was incredible. The mission system at first wasn't that good for me but with experience I learn how to grow a little more faster. Then the combat update came and that was incredible! There are more than a way to make your combat build and that's something I love. The hame caves and the fact that you can decorate them is a little detail that I like too. The mod community is insane! There are plenty of dinos and other animals (real and fictional) that are beutiful
    Someday I'll play The Isle Envrima, but for the moment my pc doesn't run it. I love both games but I couldn't have the Envrima experience get and I love the fact that is like a survival horror game. I'm sure that both games are different experiences and isn't totally fair to compare one to another or say that one is trash and the other is perfect. That isn't how it works!
    Btw Beast of Bermudas is a game that I would love to play too but my pc doesn't runs it, so sadly I will have to wait to play it!

    I bought into Path of Titans before it was even playable, because they idea of a dinosaur survival game sounded right up my alley, and I wish I hadn't. PvP is one of those things I can take or leave with video games, but obviously can be really fun. That said, I think PoT in its current state is functionally a free-for-all deathmatch (which is fine) but with 'survival' mechanics that feel shallow, boring and like they are there solely to gatekeep you from the fun and polished part of the game - the combat.
    I think PoT has its place and I can understand why people have fun playing it, because I have! But it's also still not the survival game I was/still find myself craving and, admittedly, I was probably pretty naive to expect something like that from both 1.) a smaller studio and 2.) an MMO experience anyway.

  • @EggsDeinony
    @EggsDeinony 6 месяцев назад +1

    In early PoT days i could absolutely get it, but nowadays all three of the big dino survival games play SO differently that they aren't super comparable anymore lol
    isle :: survival horror with a realism focus
    beasts of bermuda :: the game that largely focuses on gameplay being unique and fun above visually appealing graphics ( though honestly that game is beautiful, i dont know why people think its still ugly! )
    path of titans :: the game that largely focuses on group play above all else / trying to be an MMO kind of deal
    that said, i'm amazed that path of titan's playerbase isn't THAT much higher than the isle's considering Isle is ONLY on PC / steam, path of titans is VASTLY more accessible as far as getting the game is concerned considering its on basically every conceivable platform AND its crossplay compatable! i would have expected its numbers to be astronomically higher

    As an old Isle player, I think where the Isle also fails now, is that it attacks itself too. Legacy players made the Isle possible, they took the pathetic tech demo of Legacy and made it playable and interesting. Anyone who values that is also crapped on by Evrima players, so it's kind of cannibalizing itself rn as the devs refuse to develop in game systems that support community servers. PoT is getting there with regular updates and interesting maps, but I think it's also lacking some social systems like nesting and such to really give it that grip.
