do a week on Tesco finest for comparison!!! :D
Bloody hell, are you trying to kill the poor man?
I'm hoping for Aldi or Lidl next
Cameron Wyllis not that bad tbh
I could be wrong but I think that Tesco finest wouldn't have the range for that.
@Victor Greenwood beat me to it LOL
Be glad that the peas were the least green peas you have ever seen. Normal canned peas are full of food colouring because the cooking and canning process normally takes most of the colour out of the peas. And people in general thinks that green peas taste better than non green peas.
You can get almost every "standard" fruit and vegetable either frozen or canned in value range. Dunno why you have just ate stodge all week
Frozen feggies can be nice and canned fruits arent the worst.. so he definately should have gone for a more healthy approach...
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE BRITISH BREAD BOY
You can also buy fresh value fruits and vegetables (just not as much range in the value, but you can still get a decent quantity), I am very surprised he didn’t buy any fresh value items.
Slide84rik he doesn’t know how to cook them
Basil takes after his owner... 0:18: Mocking the cat for complaining he is soo hungry, cut to 2:24.
Tesco value breaded Cod fillets are actually quite nice if you ever consider trying that,Only 95p for 4 whereas the birdseye ones are about £4😂.Good Ol Tesco, Shit food for great prices,Great food for Shit prices.
Yang Yong Damn unlucky man
Yang Yong, you should of gone to bigger Tesco extra store for that..
For a budget Fanta add sparkling water to the orange squash.
I feel malnourished just watching this.
LissyLis Vlogs you don’t look it
LissyLis Vlogs
I agree with you. He is looking malnourished. He didn't buy tuned fruit or veg. 🙂
He looks unwell. 🤔
TheeseGeese Thank you so much!
Ben Turner Personally I hate veg, I struggle with it, I wish I liked it because I wouldn’t be so fat. But I do force it down on the daily, because I know it’s good for me. I wish it was a nice as cakes, but that’s life I guess. I just wanna see him chow on a bit of kale, take one for the team.
Even if you eat the full tin its only 1 of your 5 a day. It has to be 5 different portions of fruit or veg (80g or 200ml (iirc) is a portion)
I was about to say that boiled potatoes without butter or anything sounds horrible... but hey, the kievs turned out to be gushers! Butter for all!
...My what?
Lol
the moment i saw those tinned potatoes my thought was "he's going to make them explode in the microwave". if being a student has taught me anything, it is to never ever ever put tinned potatoes in the microwave. ever.
Those chicken Kiev look like scotch eggs .
allan fulton no they don't😂👎
Watch Jon drinks water
Why does Mike seem to not understand how microwaves work still?
Why would we want him to?
Because he is a moron. He is obviously eating less than normal but that is what will cause his weight loss not the food he is eating but the less than normal quantity. This is obvious because he keeps complaining about being hungry? I am not surprised one day he has a energy bar for breakfast, Another he doesn't eat until he goes home?
+ANDREW CULLEN lol... its funny, he is like a small child and some of these viewers like you are his parents...
itsKarlDesigns 🤣🤣🤣
Please do this with Asda too!
A week on. Cheese. Why has no one suggested it yet?
You should puncture the potatoes next time before you microwave them lol
This would be more interesting if you were more creative with the food. For instance, you could cut the potatoes into slices and fry them up. With a bit of salt, I bet it would taste so much better. Unless i missed where you made the rules to be make everything as bland as possible.
If you had a series where you used basic ingredients to make some tasty dishes, that would be interesting.
Poe Territory 🖒
Have you never had British food? The entire aim of traditional British cooking is to make food as bland as possible 😂
i don't think he's a good cook to do that
Poe Territory he doesn’t know how mate... I’ve legitimately never seen him cook anything
Half a can of that soup was 20% of your daily recommended salt intake. The entire can you were going to eat was a full 40, my dude. :( I'm actually really concerned about your sodium intake throughout this week. Really cheap processed foods and canned foods, like the sort you've been eating, tend to be packed to the gills with salt.
You don't need to worry too much. Sodium intake is more a long term problem for otherwise healthy people. One week is very unlikely to be enough to mess him up.
Tinned spuds, even if they're not the cheapest brand, never taste right - I think it's the saline they put in the can with them. The tomato soup would have been nice as part of a basic pasta sauce (most supermarkets sell spaghetti for about 20p and add bargain brand frozen veg) with some cheap pasta, or even ramen noodles. You need to be creative with your ingredients, Mike.
I don't see how; those Tesco Value tinned potatoes contain no salt. They taste absolutely fine too; they can be mashed or even roasted and always come out perfectly in our experience, never hard or waxy or grainy like some.
As someone who also buys that soup, I can tell you it would be awful as a pasta sauce, especially as Tesco Value range offers pasta sauce and other ingredients which would be far better suited. It may work in a stew or casserole though.
I've not heard of canned potatoes without a salt solution. Are you sure? What do they use instead?
I'm positive; they have to list all ingredients by law. They contain only potatoes in water with firming agent and antioxidant. The salt content is 0.1gg. A lot of tinned potatoes contain no added salt now, even the cheap ones like supermarket budget brands. I am on a low sodium diet as I'm pregnant, and I always get tinned potatoes. It's partly for convenience as I'm disabled too; they're so easy to prepare and can be done really simply or tarted up with a bit more effort. The roasties my other half does from them are unreal; you would never believe they started out tinned.
NotMostGirls i like the tin spuds as well and to make them less bland add a pinch of salt to them lol
Tomato soup as a pasta sauce? I would hate to think of the meals you come up with.
0:52 holy shit it's ashens!
Numb Mind I’m not the only one that thought the same lol
I thought that 😂
That chicken Kiev was the best looking thing all day. Too bad I’ve never seen anything like that at my local grocery store in San Antonio
bridget Lee local grocery stores here in Florida have Barber Foods chickens Kiev, frozen, rather larger and much more expensive. Every few months they go on sale for half price (buy one get one free) and I stock up. The Tesco Value ones look pretty good, I must say.
They're easy to make. Just stuff a chicken breast with garlic butter, coat it in bread crumbs and cook it in the oven for about 20-25 minutes.
Jammy C thanks I will make it
Guys he ate a vegetable
Hahahaha you microwaved those garbage potatoes. I have made that mistake before.
4:10 If you listen closely, you can clearly hear his stomach bracing for impact.
The Onyx Viper 😦😯😦
7:30 American viewers won't know what orange squash is, it's not a thing at all in the US. I've have had to explain it to American friends numerous times and they think it's just us Brits being weird again.
In south east asia, squash are called syrups. Usually they are served (diluted with water of course) to house guests and on special occasion. Best part is that it has a very long expiry.
Today I learned. That's cool.
Here squash is seen as mostly a kid's drink
Oh thank god! Its been bugging me for ever how to say it to americans. I usually just say "its like kool-aid syrup"
it seems like a less heavy Orange Juice
Pretty much. Part of the ingredients of all fruit squash is the concentrated juice of the fruits in question, plus some sweeteners and acidity regulators etc.
I actually like the value tomato soup, it’s my favourite. It’s nice with plenty of black pepper and a nice onion bread. The potatoes are nice halved and pan fried with garlic and herb seasoning as well.
Just things further, squash is called diluting juice in Scotland, in the west at least.
The thing to remember when microwaving tinned potatoes is to use a microwave saucepan with a lid, but if you don't have one then cover the container you are using with kitchen towel, this will prevent your microwave becoming splattered with potatoes
I love those canned things! :D At festivals, I chug them out of the can 😂
Imo the value stuff like eggs milk cheese sugar and bits and bobs taste the same as the more expensive, its only stuff like bread and cereals I splash out on!
“A vindaloo.... on the way out” 😂
Tesco does do a sort of version of everyday value fruit and veg, and also meat. They just put a different name on it, like the bread. The meal is called something like Boswell Farm and the fruit/veg is Rosedene Farms. I don't know if it counts, but I thought I'd mention it. The dried pasta and like £1 ready meals are now called Hearty Food Co. too. It's just to trick people who wouldn't buy something with 'everyday value' written on. Although any reason to get rid of the beige packaging makes sense in my book
I'm glad to actually see some garlic butter in the Kievs ! Every supermarket Kiev I've had has been empty !
For the tomato soup: add cream, not whipped cream or milk, like actual double cream, they have Tesco value version of it, it makes it taste a little bit better.
With the potatoes I cook them in the pan, they are much better. Just add a dash of salt. I used to boil those with some value sweetcorn, add in some ham and mix in mayo. Really nice meal on the cheap.
I'm hooked on A Week On.
I wish there was a way you could do a week on public school meals.
Keep on Truckin!
my school use to have the canned whole potatoes on the menu. They coated them with butter and parsley.
I love how the plate design fits the dish!
I love how he starts to break down near the final days of these week on videos
Love the themepark tin in the background at the end. ^.^
"butter up my spuds!" hahahha
Do a week on fastfood!
Those tinned potatoes are great when deep fried into chats (kind of like round chips) :)
I started watching this channel today.
I've already subscribed purely for Basil!😍😂
The “normal” Tesco Cream of Tomato tinned soup is actually nice and almost identical to the Heinz, but less than half the price. It does have more sugar though.
Those green peas looked so depressed 😆🤦🏿♀️
0:05 I thought that was my own cat meowing!
So far through out this week I've noticed that all the "meal" foods tend to be bad but all of the snacky junk food is actually good.
I like the cheap no name brand canned tomato soup but ours is condensed and I add half milk half water or a full can of milk when I’m feeling like I’m rich.
What a fun challenge Mike! But wow, not much fiber that week!
'Cheap brand' food can be very high quality and with imagination and the ability to follow simple recipes are a great way to have a 'financial diet'.
that tomato soup looked the same as all tomato soups lol
You need to do the Cathy Mitchell aka dump lady (ramen joy) recipe book for a week.
I love the shape of that soup spoon! 😍
hi I live down the road from you in aylesbury enjoying your vids !! xvx
Be fair, Mike. Those peas had more colour to them than the ones they used to serve in Toby Carvery near me. Both the peas and sweetcorn at my guess had been boiling in water first thing on Monday and then continuously for that whole week as they were both an off-white when I went with a friend on a Friday night. No, we didn't touch the veg.
Never really liked plain tomato soup. I'm fine with instant ramen, but usually I prefer making my own soup. I find a lot of canned soup bland. To save time, sometimes I add frozen vegetables to my soup. Not sure if that would have helped tho.
I actually love these videos your a legend mate
“don’t like that at all” *starts making donald duck like noises*
This dude is personally building my shopping list
Pretty much 100% certain I have the exact same microwave as you. Kenwood 900 Watt E is it? Mine looks dirtier than yours you'll be pleased to know.
the potato are nice if you put sauce on them. a lot of it too
I dont know but i just love the canned potatoes from tesco, i put some butter on them and there realy nice
Chicken Kievs look nice
You can make a lovely easy quick soup using a tin of peas
So after 11:59 p.m. after Day 7, are you going to have a Big Mac or some other junk food? I would!!
The tomato soup got me thinking. Not sure why but anything with a powerful flavour tends to wind up on Mikes bad list. He doesn't seem to like strong tasting foods. There's a joke about bland British cooking I could make here, but its overdone ;)
I'm thinking Mike doesn't often check cooking instructions, because if he had read them on the potatoes, he would have known to NOT put them in the microwave. They're supposed to be simmered on the hob.
You can easily tell the tomato soup was going to be horrible. It's too orange
You have really cheap food in UK. Here in Norway cheapest can of tomato soup would be at least a pound, and chicken dinner like this at least 4gbp.
Like a doll's eyes is the quote.
Today in the comments we learned that american soup is so shit that they have to dilute it or otherwise doctor it to make it palatable and no-one knows what squash is.
Nanonic001 As usual then. "MIKE DIDN'T DO THINGS THE WAY I'M USED TO, HE FAILED!"
First, that's Tesco soup. Tesco is not in the US, so it's not an "american soup." Second, condensed soup is partially dehydrated soup meant more for cost and shelf life. Yes, you have to add water, but no, it's not our normal soup and is considered cheap crap here as well.. Third, why on earth do you think we don't know what squash is :P?
You see that bit where I wrote 'today in the comments we learned'? That's what I learned from reading the comments.
Nanonic001 I'm glad we could reach this understanding
Now shake hands like businessmen
Actually like their value tomato soup, although that is with some bread or rolls to dip.
I would put gravy on the chicken Kiev meal for more flavour. Very dry without anything on
That soup actually was Tango. It's a good job they spelled "garden peas" correctly. Because a different spelling would mean something completely different.
Live off Lidl I'm in a supported accommodation hostel and everyone I know that's ever had to live in one has had to shop from there good way to show people it's not good enough, especially when all you've got is yourself 😂
Of all the canned vegetables, I think potatoes fare the worst. Here in the States, they're always gritty and grainy and weirdly spongy.
I tried both the Kiev's and orange squash and to be fair there okay for what they are!!
My parents brought me up on this kind of food so I literally can't taste the difference between Tesco's and anything else. I only notice it with 'cola' and coke.
After the re - branding of Tesco Everyday Value, it seems like the Kievs don't have as much butter as they used to :(
Hungry:- famished, ravenous, starving, voracious.
Alternatively:- craving, peckish, hollow, desirous, keen and yearning.
You sound like my teenage kids...... I'm starving! 😂
"These are so bland, get off"
Haha
that soup glows. ive tried it and he was being kind
so squash is what australians call cordial. Does it come in other flavours?
I really don't get why someone would want to buy canned patetoes for dinner. Fresh ones are quite cheap and much more better, and even those frozen fries from tesco are much better. If you are not going on trip where you can't buy patatoes, rice or something, maybe, but for everyday? no way.
akane saotome maybe some people would stockpile those for emergencies. Canned food has a much longer shelf-life.
Mike reminds me so much of Ashens and honestly that's not a bad thing
I have to eat similar to this almost all year round with the exception that I buy fresh meat, veggies and fruit sometimes.
Be careful of your sodium intake a diet like this causes cancer cells to expand
"Like a dog's eyes"
Uh oh, mike, we need to have a talk about your dog...
You don't pay much attention Mike, that can said 20% RDA salt for half a can, not the entire thing, so you actually had 40% in that alone. Soup usually is salty though.
Shits and giggles
You sound like Jeremy Usborne from peep show 😂😂😂
I know this is far too late but Redmere Farms is the rebranded Tesco value fresh produce.
Glass of juice or a drs sample
Johnnyafc _ even for double strength it's not enough juice. Way too weak. Should have used more
Yeah, anything with tomato is hard to be good when it's cheap, it's too acid or too sweet, with that said, how can someone screw potatos to the point of it popping in the microwave? What was inside those potatos? :P
Do it with Asda and get someone you know in the states to do the same thing with Wal-Mart's Great Value brand. Also you and your overseas partner try to do the same types of meals, will some allowances for cultural differences. We also have Aldi here, could do it with Aldi.
Tesco brand salt and pepper seasoning wasn't a part of the plan?
you never microwave tinned potatoes I made that mistake and one of them literally exploded in my mouth was pretty scary.
The hero we needed but not deserved
I really like those tinned potatoes.
Sodium and table salt are not the same thing.
Sodium Bicarbonate can also be part of the Sodium content, even though it's not Sodium Chloride.
You eat tomato soup as is? I usually add some sour cream or bortsch and add pieces of toast.
Maybe the Kievs would be nice with chips and beans 😋
This is like an odd art piece about a lonely man and his cat 🐱
That spoon tho
i got tomato souce for about 0.5pounds(5kr) that lookt just like that, was esteble but dident enjoy it
